Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom General Discussion thread

Ok well that sounded optimistic for the future of Jason and Aquaman. I guess they couldn’t 100% in case the next film is a flop but I don’t think it will. Sounds like potentially smooth sailing ahead

Campea also said that someone he knows, said that he liked the couple minutes that he saw of the movie but people who have seen the whole movie, did not.

With Flash bombing, I don’t even know how they are going to market this thing. The first one made a billion somehow. So you would think people like Aquaman. But has too much time passed?

I think an important factor with flash and Shazam 2 bombing was Ezra and what’s his name’s controversies. For example, I felt like I couldn’t ask my friends to see flash with me because it’s like “oh ok you want to boycott JK Rowling but not Ezra?” A lot of these films make money from groups going to see it so this issue wouldn’t help.

my point is Aquaman is, excuse the pun, an entirely different kettle of fish.

Aquaman has Amber Heard so its not safe from that.
Which sucks because we are possibly 4 in 5 about that.

BA had the whole Rock wants the DCEU be his playground thing.
Shazam had Levis nonsense right before release.
Flash has Ezra Millers stuff.
Blue Beetle if things dont turn sound will come without controversy.
Then you have Aquaman with Amber Heard still in.

Im not sure if Momoas charisma is enough to carry the movie at this stage.

The bigger problem i feel is just that everyone knows that the DCEU is over, so Aquaman being seen as the last piece of it, might turn people away.
I assume everyone is ready for a full reboot and just to move on from the DCEU.

I guarantee you the vast majority of the general audience has no idea, neither about any of the controversies around actors, nor the fact that the universe will be rebooting.

I think it will do fine. Momoa is still built from charisma and beefcake, and his Aquaman is arguably the only fun, likeable character the DCEU ever produced. Oh, and with Rogue Squadron gone, the movie has Christmas more or less to itself. I doubt it hits a billion like the first one but ought to make at least respectable (think 700+) coin.

I also don’t think the Heard thing is that big a deal for people outside of incels. But we’ll see, let’s not always predict doom just because

I dont know, the whole world watched the Heard/Depp trial with glee...so who knows.
The good thing is that the movie isnt coming out in the middle of the trial or so...the story is pretty much over for both.
So who knows if it is still a problem by the time Aquaman comes out.

We will see how Blue Beetle and Aquaman do.
I dont think the flash is a indication of how they will perform, so we have to wait and see.
I know im definitly still excited for both.

This should sate you until the trailer is announced. Jason did a promo for shark week and it’s awesome

It's a shame the new Flash movie & looks like Aquaman 2 movies are being rejected.
I know the DCU they are part of is ending but, a good movie with DC characters we never get to see often should be given a chance.
A good movie is a good movie, regardless if others abandon it because its continuity is ending.
Spider-man with Tobey Maguire ended but its still a good movie to watch , as was Batman '89 with Keaton.
I saw the Flash movie, and thought it was a lot better than most give it credit for.
Same with Aquaman 2, it seems rumors are spreading its terrible before it even is out yet.
Makes me think its being sabotaged just so it fails.

I trust James Wan to make a visually-pleasing film and Jason Momoa is way more likeable than Ezra Miller. Even if the story is terrible, again, hopefully the strengths of the first one pull in the box office once again, though I don't expect it to match anywhere near a billion this time.

I hope the trailer debuts soon, perhaps with Blue Beetle.

I agree with you on 2 of your points.
1) Momoa seems to be a fan favorite & likeable guy. Him being cast in Dune, Fast X & being kept around for the new DC universe I think proves that for the most part.
2) James Wan is a very good director and underrated.
His work on Aquaman I think was above average & his experience in the horror genre is just as good or better.
I would in fact, I would now nominate James Wan to handle Swamp Thing .
It seems a natural for him since DC wants to go with a horror vibe.

I just can’t think of a better lead than momoa. All the other fan favourites just look so bland compared to him

Ha, nice reference.

yeah I’m happy with this not connecting with anything. I don’t think anyone is asking for a cameo from the past
