Rate then Review Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Not me. I was an anti-foX.
In that case ur my bro/sis/them!!!! I hope we get a bunch more of Psylock & Colossus and my two faves Gambit and Storm when the MCU finally gets to what we're all anxiously awaiting for--- X-MEN!

Going to add this here as well since it's an official audience rating:

The long awaited CinemaScore ranking from audiences is in. They poll movie goers and have been using this method with random sampling to help predict second wk drop and to gage how strong word-of-mouth is. They've used this method for over 30 years now:
(The first Black Panther scored a very rare A+)

Comic book movies of 2022 &2021 Cinemascores:
A: Wakanda Forever
A: Shang Chi

A-: Black Widow
B+: Black Adam
B+: Thor Love & Thunder
B+: The Suicide Squad
B+: Dr Strange MoM
B: Eternals
B: The Batman

The Batman did not get a B, it got an A-.
Someone else mentioned that to me to. I just went to the official site and typed in 'Batman' and it gave a listing for all the Batman movies. I was asking whether this is the official site -- it's called CinemaScore.com so I assumed it was, maybe not.

Nope it's the official site! Taken from the site:

A solid 7, but definitely a mixed bag. They had a checklist of things that needed to get done and hit it as best they could given their circumstances. The most emotional part was the Marvel logo sequence for me. I walked out saying "this was ok". If I had to sum this up, the 1st trailer was more emotional and hit as hard as I had hoped the overall film would, but it just didn't make it there. Give me more M'Baku though.

I would probably put it at a 7.7-7.9 range I say the best of phase 4 not counting Spider-Man since it is Sony with MCU help. Spider-Man was about 8.1

I like that they let the movie be long at 2hr and 41 min there would be minimal I would have cut out. This does hurt my replay though, I just don't have the time to want to see a movie that long multiple times. It was solid but not an event like Avengers Infinity & Endgame.

Overall I think they did the best job of moving a franchise story/world outside of big MCU world. That was the theme of phase 4 all central story building. BP moved theirs along and provided interesting story.

Most visually rich MCU in quite some time, probably since the first BP, and boasted some strong performances but you could feel the length at times.

8/10

As far as sequels go, this definitely outdoes the original film probably even surpasses it but I felt the length at times with it being too long

So out of 10, I would still give this film a 9 out of 10

What a powerful movie. Every actor brought their A-game especially Letitia wright, Angela Bassett and the Namor actor.

I'm probably in the minority but I enjoyed Wakanda Forever more than Black Panther. I found the story more engaging and the acting in it was some of the best in the MCU, maybe even the best in CBMs.

10/10 for me and top 5 MCU movie.

Right now I'll go for 8.5/10, but I'm still on that post-movie high. Our new Black Panther didn't look very intimidating in some scenes. Didn't love how the Midnight Angels and the Ironheart suit looked. Those are very minor complaints though.

I appreciate that we got to spend so much time in the world of this movie. Namor was great. Shuri's inner conflict and the whole war really worked for me. Talokan was magical and the Siren stuff in the beginning very eerie. The performances were amazing.

My favorite phase 4 movie by a mile.

This is more personal and emotional movie compared to the first movie.
As someone who already has lost 2 family members, this movie really hits me hard especially at the beginning where I was tearing up during T'Challa's funeral scene.

For that alone... to me, this movie is already better than the first movie.

This is a movie that had many adversaries and obstacles even before they began production. A sudden loss of Chadwick, Letitia Wright's controversies and her injuries that caused a numerious temporary shutdown on the production, until the doubts among many, whether the rest of the casts could carry the whole movie or not without their main lead.

And Ryan Coogler and co, imo had successfully delivered on that front. Given the circumstances, it is almost impossible for Coogler and Marvel to even managed this huge challenges to give a satisfying followup to the cultural phenomenon of the first movie....,and yet they managed to do just that and give us not only a moving tribute to Chadwick, and also give imo, the one of the best in MCU. Really..they couldnt give us a better movie than this one.

And the cast...they brought in their A game for each of their respective roles. Especially Letitia's Shuri and Angela Bassett's Queen Ramonda.
They are the heart and soul of the movie that felt a huge hole in it without Chadwick.

I know Letitia's antics in real life had caused controversies and understandably so many had called up for her and upset about it...and I am not condone at all of her actions nor her views, but I just want to urge fans to appreciate what she brings into this movie. Her arc in the movie is one the best in the MCU (eventhough it is mirroring T'Challa's arc in Civil War).

I also like to pointed out Danai Gurira as Okoye.
I think here she gave one of the best performances in MCU. Look back at the scene where she was stripped out of her position as Dora Milaje. You could see in her faces of how pain and heartbroken she really is when the one thing that gave her life meaning and the only thing that she devoted her entire life into, has been taken from her. Such an underrated scene from a great actress here.

For the villain...I have no problem with Namor and Talokan. I think they served their purposes here really well as a foil for Wakanda. Though I hope there is more deep motivation from Namor to invade Wakanda.

And I am glad Marvel hasnt killing him at his first appearance, there is so many to explore with this character in the future.
At the end, with the alliance between Wakanda and Talokan, it is also to set up a future confrontation with a certain another kingdom. (When Namor said "any nationz would be willing to stripped Wakanda of their resources given any opportunity" or something like that), I couldnt help to think of Latveria.

As for Riri, i love her :)
This movie has set her up nicely to introduce her before her own series.
I see some had thought her as annoying and shoehorned into the movie. But to me, perhaps thats the way Generation Z has usually act, talk, and behave, especially someone her age.
So, I have no problem with that.

For her being shoehorned into the movie...well she was not being shoehorned any more than the Spider-Man shoehorned cameo in Civil War.
And for all I know, Spidey was also being shoehorned in CW but he was praised to the sky by fans....so I dont see any problem of Riri being in the movie.

One other thing that I'd like to pointed it out is the Midnight Angel suit that many had also criticized about.
All I can say is that is not some random suit that put in to the movie, that is from the comics.
It was introduced first in TaNehisi coates's run.

In the comics, 2 former Dora Milaje couple who wore it is Ayo and Aneka. (Both were also appearing in the movie...and also hinted mildly as a couple, too).

7 for me.

This movie wasn't fun and I don't plan to watching it again anyime soon. If Namor isn't a well known character from the comics, he would have been as forgettable as Malekith. I just don't get his motivations. Talokan looks less impressive than Wakanda and DC Studios' Atlantis.

Ironheart was a plot device that could have been replaced by someone, but was used to prop her up for a Disney+ original series. Everett too.

I liked the first hour but there wasn't anything eXciting about this film. If T'Challa was in this, it was probably going to be by the numbers sequel like the previous 2quels of the mcu.

Everyone put there every being into this film for respect to Chadwick. Soon as the marvel titles came on. It felt like a minutes silence to realign our thoughts on the passing of Chadwick. They handled this film with ultimate TLC while at the same time produced a great film in Marvels library and in particular phase 4. Fantastic acting from the main cast especially Letitia Wright (she had a mammoth task at hand) loved the soundtrack of this film and in particular the scene with discovering a certain world. My god..... That for me was one of the best ethereal experiences with imagery ive had in a longtime. If you didn't feel anything then you are cold as stone lool That scene alone will rival a " certain " film being released in December. Namor and the Atlantis people were badass and loved his conflicted antihero ideologies.

Ryan really put his stamp on this film. He took a few risks here which ultimately paid off imo definitely less of a typical marvel fim than the others that have been released. Marvel really needed a film like this in there latest batch and for them to give Ryan abit of breathing room this time around gives me some type of reassurance that theres hope for phase 4 over the horizon.....

Downsides were Riri and the running time but those were quite minor all things considered.

8.5/10

I'm not surprised the song that played during the scene has over a million views:

Screw Pandora, I want to see the Talokan capital again.

After seeing it last night and processing my thoughts, I am settling on an 8 for now.

Some very powerful moments and performances, Bassett and Wright were superb and the latter really stepped up when needed. Really enjoyed Namor as well he was a king trying to protect his people and their way of life at any cost so his actions made sense to me. Not sure about the changing of his origin though.

Shuri had a really good and powerful arc, and while Bosemans absence was sorely felt, they did the best they could and Wright was a big part of that. Her entrance as BP into M'Baku's kingdom was epic as **** to me. And the score was perfect in that moment. Really liked Talokan as well.

Riri was a plot device I agree but I felt she belonged. The scenes I would have cut were the Everett Ross and Val scenes. All we really needed was him giving Riri's location to Shuri and then have him in chains at the end with Okoye. Speaking of Okoye, I didn't particularly like what happened with her character arc. I thought Shuri should have re-instated her as the head Dora.

I did like the tone though and wish more MCU movies were like this. There was humour sure but there was also powerful emotions throughout. So yeah 8/10 but that could change with a re-watch.

I give it an 8/10

After watching it, I definitely felt the absolute absence of T’Challa and how it affects the story. Namor is drastically different from his comic book counterpart, ironheart felt shoed In because of her upcoming tv series. There wasn’t really a villain pre-say. Shuri journey to taken up the mantle was an emotional ride, especially since she went from the technical advisor and comical supporting character in the first film.

The standout is without question Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, her performance was definitely Oscar worthy buzz. The subplot with Everett and Val felt unnecessary and somewhat of a setup for things to possibly come in the future. It could’ve been cut or even trimmed down.

Winston Duke as M’Baku was hilariously funny with just the right balance as he takes up a role of surrogate guardian to Shuri to help her with her grief over the loss of her entire family.

The finale showdown between The Wakandians vs. Talokanians felt shorter than expected and the battle between Namor and Shuri was actually brutal than anticipated. Overall I enjoyed the film, not as good as the original. Now for the tease of T’Challa’s son is quite promising and hopefully he’ll grow up quickly and we see him take up the mantle of Protector and King.

8/10

Some really cool moments and great performances. The emotional beats were successful. While I liked Namors' cultural reinvention his characterization and acting was average. Just one more warmonger.
I wish we could see more of the Tlalocans. All the characters we got besides Namor was: The big one, and the girl one. Which I guess is justified since we got many characters already.

The effects were a miss mash of great ones and very clumsy ones, Iron-heart looks like a power ranger circa 2003.

I liked Nakias' take on a spy. As someone that actually blends in.

And the Rhianna song is great.

Just came here to say that I absolutely loved this film. I didn’t miss seeing BP in action at all. All the supporting characters from the first movie stepped up their game and now they’re main characters in my eyes. 4/5 for me.

This felt like the longesf MCU movie. It couldn’t hold my attention for 2h30+ minutes consecutively. I had to pause multiple times. Every half hour i got up to eat just so i could stay awake.

I thought Angela Bassett deserved an Oscar nom for her masterful acting. Julia Louis Dreyfus and Michael B Jordan and Lupita were the other standouts. I understand this movie was necessary for the cast and crew to get their emotions out. Cant wait for BP3 so we can hopefully see a male in the lead.

This movie was less appealing to me (a male) because I could not identify as much with all the female leads. The action sequences felt rushed and were not as memorable as the first film - which is a classic and one which many people can recite the lines by memory.

I have watched all the MCU films in the theatre on opening night since the first Iron Man except for No Way Home (due to COVlD mandates) The Eternals and Wakanda Forever (due to lack of interest). I dont plan on watching another MCU film in theatres until Fantastic Four and the Avengers Secret Wars/Kang Dynasty. It is missing what made the MCU special.

5.5/10

I though this was decent, a big step up from the guff of Love and Thunder at least and everyone gave their all in obviously difficult circumstances, they nailed the emotional side of things with Angela Bassett and Letitia Wright doing impressive work and also always good to see MB Jordan appear and used well even if brief.

The story did struggle with its pacing at times and overall didnt really earn that 2.45 run time with it feeling very slow and self indulgent with some unnecessarily long and slow underwater parts padding out the run time rather than using that time to actually add anything to the story, Ironheart felt kind of shoehorned in for no real purpose for example. Namor as a character was interesting but the story didnt really know what to do with him at times.

But at least they mostly took the whole thing seriously, which they sort of had too with "MCU comedy" kept to a bare minimum that always helps.

Overall not their best work but perhaps just a step in the right direction was what they needed after a rocky couple of years, a decent effort. 7.5/10

9/10. It wasn't the movie I thought it was going to be (which is a good thing) and it's a better Aquaman movie than that 150 million dollar episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys that James Wan made.

Much better then I expected. Not top 5 MCU but maybe top 10.

Not perfect, Riri was shoehorned in pretty hard and the exact same story could be told without her. That didn’t make much sense but whatever. Kinda of the same for Ross, who seems to be there only to get humiliated.

Still, loved Namor so much that I prefer BP2 then BP1.

Even if I will always say that they should have recast. Now BP/TChalla is gone forever.

7.5 out of 10

It was fine and actually better than what an average Marvel film tends to be. I was close to giving it an 8 but as it went along that rating started to lose strength and I think that final score feels like a pretty fair one to me. Not Top 10 MCU for me but a solid film nonetheless.
