Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches | AMC

Good. The second episode was as good as the first. :D
Oh yeah I liked the second episode as well. The score is very interesting and I like knowing the characters more and the mystery of Lasher also dat ending was crazy and unexpected. Glad the ratings were great for the first episode and hope it continues.

I liked these first two episodes, though I’m cautious with this show. The books are fairly…insane and I’m kind of doubting that they’ll go all in with that. But I’m really liking what they’re doing with Lasher.

Yeah, I suspect Lasher :

will stay a human ghost and not be one of the Taltos. It would be too complicated not to.

You might be right there. I really wouldn’t be surprised if they change things around since they’ve shown in both series that they’re willing to do that.

Though in the first episode Lasher referred to himself as a “saint”.

I might be misremembering since I haven’t read the novel since 2007, but from memory wasn’t part of his backstory that
during his life he was thought to be a reincarnation of “St Ashlar” (who is actually the Taltos Mr Ash)

This weekend I'm going to have to give this one another go with fresh eyes. Won't lie, but I was a little bored with the first episode, but again I want to try it again with a rewatch.

Yeah I am really liking the series so far but it is definitely a slow burn. Glad you’re gonna give it another chance.

Oh, snap. I just realized that...

Book spoiler:
...unless I'm wrong, there isn't going to be a Micheal Curry. In the book, Curry nearly drowned and after having a near death experience has visions when he touches things. I think they are going to have the Talamasca guy take Curry's place. Not sure I like that because of how it could impact later events. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

I think the showrunner/producers have actually come out and said that Michael and Aaron’s roles are going to be amalgamated into this new character.

I’m giving the show a chance, but I’m very cautious that they might miss the mark with the adaptation process.

Yeah, if they said that then that's disappointing. Unless they make Ciprian...

...a distant Mayfair like Curry was it will impact the Taltos storyline unless they are dumping that altogether, too.

If they ditch that element then …oof, that’d be disastrous. That’d be the entire second and third novel completely gone, not to mention a huge element of Anne Rice’s lore in this shared universe.

But I think there’s still some hope, considering Lasher mentioned in his episode 1 monologue (when he did the face thing) that he was a “Saint”.

so that seems like they’re going to keep his backstory of being mistaken for a reincarnation of Saint Ashlar/Mr Ash.

I don't mind SOME changes, but please don't ruin my show by overdoing it, creators. K thnxs bye. :(

I don't mean to knock this show, but I'm finding some difficulty in accepting all of the changes they've made here. I didn't realize the degree of it until I began re-reading the first book. The changes in Interview were easier to handle I think because all of principle characters were there. Here they've taken two of my favorites and blended them together and I'm not liking it. Adaptations can suck that way. So far the Will Trent show is much worse and it's got me down. I think after tonight I need to binge all the Witches episodes in a clump and maybe I'll feel better about it. Right now I'm just sad that what I thought were the best bits are missing. :(

Watching this newest episode, I noticed they teased at least one crazy element of the books.

Rowan pushing back on having children. Definitely seems like they’re setting up the whole thing with Lasher “coming through” and potentially Rowan’s daughter Emaleth.

probably, but I'm guessing it'll be Cip as the dad as Curry isn't even in the picture. :(

From what I remember wasn’t the dad

Lasher?
Lasher possessed Curry I believe during the conception so ...kinda? If I recall correctly Lasher jumped into the body of the child, which being Taltos grew quickly, but then once in the flesh Lasher was killed. I could however be confusing when Curry had sex with another witch and a female Taltos was born. It's been a while since I've read all the books through, at least 10 years or so.

I went through and brushed up on the whole saga.

Rowan got pregnant via Michael, and then Lasher tricked her and possessed the baby to be reborn, then raped Rowan to try and recreate the Taltos race. Which created their daughter Emaleth, who dies at the end of the second novel.

Michael also gets seduced by Rowan’s cousin, who gets pregnant with a Taltos daughter and gives birth in the third novel. And that child ends up running off with Ashlar at the end of the book, to presumably restart the Taltos race somewhere in peace.

Hell of a family tree :funny:

Crazy for sure, which makes we wonder how far AMC will go with it. They've changed a lot already. I'm 16% through the first book right now on Kindle and Dierdre hasn't even died yet. Cortland is long dead so I'm wondering what the plan is with having him still around. Are they making him a powerful male witch like his dad Julien, only in this time frame now? Who knows? Maybe they are trying to keep the book readers in suspense? :p

EW explains character changes

I found this article helpful, but the news was disappointing.
Well at least the showrunners gave a reason for the change. I haven’t read the books so I guess that allows me to take the series as it is and enjoy it more. I am disappointed that some of you aren’t enjoying the changes but I’ve been there as well with certain adaptations I love so I get it.

Like I said I'm planning a binge later in the hopes that when seen in a block, those changes will be less burdensome to me. :)
