Discuss news on the upcoming Supergirl project.

Sasha Calle or new actress?

:SG:

That's the $64,000 question. Personally, I'd love if she got a shot at a solo project, especially if she makes a big impression in The Flash.

But at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if the creatives went with a different actress altogether. Maybe I'm wrong. Gunn and company may not have an actress in mind, since we didn't get any actors attached announced besides big players already in upcoming films like Levi, Gadot, and Momoa. I'd like to see Calle in a solo Supergirl project, but again, if this DCU goes in a different direction, I wouldn't be surprised if Calle was a one and done.

Then again, Sasha Calle is only 27, and if they want young actors who could play these roles for awhile...there's your answer.

I wonder if Supergirl has been to Earth yet considering Superman is young-ish. Maybe this story takes place on her way to Earth

It's based on the comic from King which so far (I'm on #5/8 or so) is mainly the telling of a revenge story by a young girl who asks Supergirl to help her find the man who killed her father. It's all on other planets and is pretty introspective and captivating so far. The artwork is insane as well.

I would like a true Supergirl. Cast 14 year old actress to play the part. I believe Kara is supposed to be the a teen in suspended animation when she is found.

I personally hope they give Calle a shot at this.

I cannot express how hyped I am that not only are they doing this story on the big screen, but that King himself is writing (or co-writing). Please get someone good to direct. This is the best comics story Kara has ever had, imo, and they've got this one chance to do it right.

I'm torn. On the one hand I really want blonde haired, blue eyed Supergirl. On the other I haven't seen Sasha Calle's version and it may be great. Also, it'd really suck for her if she did a great job - only to be told 'Great, thanks, bye'. She was obviously delighted at getting the part. As I see it, it's hers at the moment. Let her run with it. I wish her every success. If it doesn't work then give us blonde Kara.

I found a digital trade on Amazon of this comic so I am going to read it now to see what the hype is all about.

Yeah, I ended up reading Woman of Tomorrow about a month and a half ago after having been impressed with King's work on Up in the Sky and found myself head over heels for WoT. Truly one of the best stories in comics in recent years and I think it's a testament to how great that comic is that Gunn's opted to make it one of the first films to come out from the DCU.

I prefer to have a younger Supergirl on the big screen. Sasha Calle is 27 and is more like Melissa Benoist age when she started the series. I want to see a proper teenage Supergirl. We only had that once in the Helen Slater version and she was 20 at the time but playing a teenager. I don't mind if the actress is 20 as long as she looks young like Slater did, but prefer not to have one who is in her late 20s. I don't think we need another adult Supergirl after a whole series about that.

Ditto

I want the Supergirl actress to be a teenager. I don’t want a Superwoman. I want Supergirl. I like the kid in the Chucky TV series. She is 15 years old now.

There's plenty of mileage in Kara having to cope with her own world gone, having to adjust to life on a new world, having to learn to use her powers responsibly, having to deal with the expectations people have of her as a hero, all whilst coping with the typical issues of life as a teenager. We don't need a hardened badass. It's okay to see her struggling.

This particular story doesn’t really work with a 14-15 year old Kara, imo. She essentially takes a kid around that age under her wing. This Kara’s been around for a bit. I’d say 19 or 20-ish would work.

Could they modify the story where she takes a toddler under her wing? Or maybe she's the one taken under someone's wing?

That’s a completely different story. No thanks. The story is narrated by the younger character as an adult, and is essentially told from her POV. It’s True Grit, but with Kara in the Rooster Cogburn role, essentially.

To be honest, if they are starting out with a younger Superman who is mid-20s, having a SuperGIRL who is around the same age in the same universe probably doesn't work. The whole point is that she's younger than Superman.

I don't know how that would square with adapting this comic though. Seems like a tricky deal.

Sadie Sink would be a cool Supergirl, shes 19 now I think, would probably be around 21 Whem filming starts, she's a strong enough actress.

Thomasin Mckenzie is another favorite of mine if they wanna go a little farther.

Isnt she older than Superman? She was 9-12 when Superman was sent to Earth but she was lost in space essentially and didnt age properly.

I dont think she needs to be 30 to his 25 but casting someone 20-24 to his 25-29 shouldnt hurt.

I don't really want to see that story for Supergirl's big screen outing either. That's something that should be saved for if they ever get to a sequel where Supergirl has been long in the role and the actress has grown up. I don't want Kara starting out already as a weary old soul.

She's chronologically older but not physically older, due to the extended stasis on her delayed journey to Earth. I want them to keep that. I don't want her looking around the same age as Superman.
