X-Men - Part 8

I guess they are. That's a pity. I really enjoyed their Limbo arc.
Yeah, I was shocked tbh. I genuinely must've missed every single announcement about that. Their run was one of my favorite things about the Krakoa era. A slice of life book that makes the other titles feel much more connected. Sad to see them go.

Edit: I hope they resolve the storyline with Rahne and Magik teaching magic to Mutant kids.

With Duggan's X-Men, I usually feel like it's alright, but it doesn't blow my socks off. That said, I really liked X-Men #15. I hope the next issues in that arc follow suit.

So I just caught up to the only ongoing title I'm reading, its Adjectiveless. And sigh, I really cannot get into this Krakoa era.

The other mutant teams don't interest me as well.

I am still super confused how Shakti from 2099 is in Marauders. It is nice to have another hook to that book other than Kwannon.

Glad Judgement Day is over. That definitely could have been 5 issues, not 6. Not a whole lot has changed, imo. Though, I did laugh at the Nimrod balloon the kid had at the end of the book.

I am curious how long they are going to keep Magneto dead. It is good to finally have Brand's full plan out there. Not entirely sinister, but very much not ethical, and I don't see how she couldn't see how it will backfire. I like moving Zsen over to Red, and using Khora who didn't get much before the switch. I do wonder if they are ever going to mention Deathbird and Vulcan's kid.

2022 has been a glorious year for Jean Grey. In a few short issues Gillen has solidified himself as the best modern day writer for her. I think there's an argument to be had for him being the best writer she's had ever but he doesnt have the history yet. So far Judgement Day was quite promising. I hope he gets a chance to utilize her more going forward. In the meantime, I do enjoy Duggan and hope he is able to follow up with what Gillen helped set up for her

I am honestly glad Judgement Day is over as well.

So far, New Mutants is a huge step-down and Legion of X has lost me, but Immortal and Red are still solid. I'm also really curious about the insane amount of limited series and one-shots coming up. Some cool titles in there. Sabretooth & the Exiles reminds me that I really should dive back into the Exiles books. Plus, I hope they manage to do some interesting things with Rogue & Gambit, Bishop.

As for Sins of Sinister, I find the approach really interesting:
Immortal X-Men by Kieron Gillen, X-Men Red by Al Ewing and Legion of X by Si Spurrier will be transformed into three limited series: Immoral X-Men, Storm & the Brotherhood of Mutants and Nightcrawlers. The series writers will continue their current story plans after finale one-shot, Sins of Sinister: Dominion.

Of course, it still means we're pausing for another crossover, but at least it doesn't really derail existing titles. I think I prefer this approach to be honest. Also curious how Tini Howard will do for her third round. Knights of X was a huge improvement, though it does feel like Otherworld will now be less scary going forward.

Going to be an interesting few months.

Edit: Oh I do really like that the flagship title is diving into The Vault. That's really good stuff as well!

I'm loving the current New Mutants arc so far, it's great to see a new Trans hero in the Marvel universe

Judgement Day didn't blow me away but I enjoyed the Immortal X-men issues that tied in with it and some of the other X-men book tie ins. I'm not really a big fan of the Eternals in the comics so there was a little too much focus on them in the main event for it to be my kind of thing. I hope Eternals fans enjoyed it tho

Legion of X, New Mutants and Immortal X-men and Marauders are my favorite of the current ongoing line up and I'm very excited for the forthcoming minieries, most especially the Captain Britain one which will give us more of Betsy and Rachel as a couple. I love those two together!

Duggan on X-men has been okay. Not as good as his Marauders run IMO but not bad either.

Beast has really become an absolute bastard over in X-force and Wolverine now, hasn't he? I don't really understand why Marvel decided to just keep making Hank more and more evil with each passing year. IDK I just miss when Hank was fun. Jumping around having adventures and making jokes and being smart. Now he's a furry Mr Sinister

Is it just me or has Duggan's X-Men been improving? I like the way he's utilized the new team so far. The last arc was really good and the preview for the next issues looks interesting as well.

Honestly ya gotta admire the consistency, Beast has been verging on Mad Scientist for over a decade now.

And how many other heroes in any comic have slowly evolved into a villain, no magic curses, no mind control, no alternate universes, just a hero becoming more and more radical until he fully crosses the line...?

Now granted, I'd like for him to eventually come to his senses and come back to the light, but I'm enjoying the ride for now

I did enjoy Immortal weaving in some of the odd bits and pieces of Sinister lore in the last issue.

I'm still on my post-crossover burnout, but Red and Immortal were still really solid this week. Heading into Dark Web and Sins of Sinister next I guess. Destiny of X has been interrupted by other storylines much more than Dawn or Reign. I do hope that Fall of X doesn't follow suit.

That said, I am more curious about Sins of Sinister than other Krakoa-era crossovers. Gillen's Immortal X-Men has been excellent. Plus, at least Storm & the Brotherhood of Mutants, Immoral X-Men and Nightcrawlers are technically different books.

I'm still trying to square Dark Web with how Ayala ended the Limbo arc. Guess we will see.

Sinister's groundhog days of trying to kill the Quiet Council was hilarious.

New Mutants is a cute little story.

God bless Leah Williams. She truly is delivering on her pitch to Hickman. I laughed so much at the dialogue.

This kinda bothered me as well to be honest. I really liked how Ayala ended that arc. This seems like a step back so far.

Yes, that was absolutely glorious!

Well, I am feeling a bit better about Maddie's motivations in Dark Web. Really feel for Ben Reilly fans, though.

Thank you Leah Williams for a little bit of Betsy/Rachel. Can't wait till Capt Britain. X-terminators continues to be hilarious.

Likewise! Reading the latest issue of Dark Web X-Men, I am starting to like where they are heading. Also, Immortal X-Men just floored me. Really well-written.

The character study for Charles Xavier was absolutely amazing. Showing the good and dark sides of the characters in a brutally honest way. Reframing the X-Men's history, distancing the mutant metaphor from real-world minorities. Even better. Then, of course, that final panel twist. Loved it.

This doubly so now. Really hope this event can stick the landing, but it's looking good!

Edit: I've also gone back to read Legion of X all the way from the start and completely fell in love with that book again. Just looking back in general, I think Destiny of X was an improvement of the previous two phases. Makes me excited for Fall of X to be honest. :D

So, my take on Immortal X-men, is that Gillen really liked Spurrier's X-men Legacy run.

Always fun when Margali Szardos shows up. And the artist is having fun with the monster mutants.

Not gonna lie, I do enjoy seeing Vulcan getting his ass handed to him. Kind of curious what Fisher King is playing at at the moment. And sad to see Zsen off again.

3/4 Essexs down. Where will the 4th pop up.

Prodigy for X-Men. That's all.

OK that and I expected Fall of X to start way before July. The comments about it originally being called "Autumn of X" give me hope of the Krakoan Eras lasting beyond it too.

Plus, we are still getting a lot of content before FoX even starts. Including a new X-Men vote where vote Prodigy. Obviously.

Oh no actually one more last thing. 5 issues of Storm starting in May. Needed it. Obviously.

So, the heart Essex was not who I thought it would. However, it does explain why the last issue of Legion of X treated the face reveal as a big deal. Just did not catch that that was what it was about.

Sins of Sinister is fun. I liked Nightcrawlers, and the different Chimera names were fun.

Kingpin has Krakoan citizenship via marriage to Typhoid Mary. Now that is just plain funny.

Sins of Sinister continues to be a fun diversion. Its good to see Rasputin IV again.

I laughed at Escapade and Gabby using 90's X-men gear to create villain costumes. Art on New Mutants is still a tad iffy, imo, but I've grown to like Escapade and Martha.

Apparently they are going to set up a new X series in this years Pride issue again.

And looks like Duggan is getting an Uncanny Avengers series. Based on the line up, I'm interested.

Reading this week's comics later tonight, but just wanted to throw a small party in the comments for Ike Perlmutter leaving. Oh, and G.O.D.S. looks really interesting as well.

I can' believe they are giving Guggenheim a new Xbook, limited series it may be.

Just saw the line up for Dark X-men. I'm in.
