Shazam Shazam: Fury of the Gods General News and Discussion Thread

The complete and utter failure of this film continues to fascinate. It likely won't reach 60M domestic and it might not reach 130M worldwide. Right now Shazam 2 has Punisher War Zone (10.1M), The New Mutants (44.6M), The Punisher (54.5M), Elektra (56.8M) and Catwoman (82M) beat in terms of worldwide gross and the only other two mainstream superhero movies it has a chance of outperforming are Blade (131.2M) and Blade Trinity (131.3M).

Took the fam yesterday to see this. We all loved the fist Shazam movie, and what-do-ya-know, we loved this one too! It's a shame how they managed this movie's marketing, and the resulting box office. I'd love to see more, but that probably won't happen. Not with the same cast anyway.

if hypothetically they do continue with sequels

at what point should/would they just let Asher take over the role of Shazam (playing both Billy and Shazam) in this version they've allowed Billy to age normally (was just on verge of turning 18, canonly in the film) is 20 real life

we already saw an example of this with Mary('s actress) playing both

yes, Levi is still taller/buffer/older... and looks different, enough (to show a transformation into the character)...

...but, they can always buff him up with a muscle suit under the costume, some lefts in the boots {an other camera tricks/ angles} to make in look taller when transformed... ect.

but, as he (an the other actors/actress) get older, does them changing into someone else still make since? (an on the flip side of that, the actors/actresses playing their "Supers" are only getting older, too, so, for how much long can they play those characters for that matter)

Yep, me and my Dad and Aunt really enjoyed this one also. It wasn't as good as the first movie, but there was still a lot to enjoy. Levy has been a bit of a dick lately but was really good here. As was everyone else in their roles. I loved how the Shazamily were still doing their thing at the start of the movie but we're really brought back down to Earth mid movie.

And I loved that the finale really focused on Billy and him becoming a true hero in his own right. Along with Freddy proving he is a hero with or without the powers. Also Shazam Vs Dragon was pretty damn awesome. Along with a few cool new power displays. I think the script needed a bit of work, but Sandberg directed the hell out of the movie. I would definitely see a 3rd movie if it ever happens, though it's severely doubtful now.

I just can't work out how the likes of Love and Thunder and Knock At The Cabin get better reviews than this, which I had a far better time with.

7.5/10.

Honestly, he would be a good DCU Nightwing.

This was a damn fun sequel and it sucks we won’t get a third film but I really ended up enjoying this and I like about the same as the first one.

It is a real shame we won’t get a 3rd. I absolutely would have watched it and I loved how the sequel leaned into the more mythical stuff and we got see some classic Greek legendary creatures. Mister Mind would have been highly entertaining for the 3rd movie.

Actually a good 49% drop domestically.

So only 22 days exclusively in theaters (in comparison, Black Adam had 32 days before hitting VOD)..

It's not even making Quantumania's NA box office world wide. :wow:

Ok I finally saw it.
Zachary Levi is totally miscast in this role and the most obnoxious traits of his performance are on full force in Fury of the Gods.
There are so many interesting elements here (dual roles with the main characters, family dynamics, magic doors and realms, etc) that are completely sidelined for boring action and mediocre villains.
Maybe I'm getting too old for this -

As much as i liked Zachary Levi back in the day i'll agree with you that he was a miscast, but not for his acting. For his build, mostly.
I'll also agree with you that the direction they took for this movie was very disappointing. They should have stick with focusing on the family dynamics we got in the first movie and with the kids, not the superheroes.
.

I enjoyed the Heck out of this! I was a BIG fan of the first movie so I think a lot of that goodwill carried into this movie. I can see how someone may watch this and shrug their shoulders at it but it landed very well for me, the humor, the characters, the special effects and set pieces, I even loved THE cameo at the end and how it was done. Overall, I would legitimately call this a GOOD movie, not a great one but a good one.

The only thing I straight up didnt like was Rachel Zegler, she was awful in this. She was so blatantly sleepwalking through her lines just to get her paycheck. But everyone else was on point and this cast has such great chemistry with each other. So sad that this is the last we'll see of them.

I'm so glad that I didn't pay a movie ticket for this and Black Adam, considering how fast they are available digitally.

I will watch this soon!
