Picard Star Trek: Picard - General Discussion Thread

This is from Voyager 2 parter Scorpion. Shows Kim infected from being scratched by Species 8472. These remind me of the red vines from Jack's vision.

Could they do multiple storylines together? 8472 was never ended? But wasn’t they more anti Borg than Changeling?!

Yes they were the the species that the borg couldn't assimilate. But it was strange that the doctor on Voyager was able to use borg nanoprobes to cure Kim. So the borg couldn't assimilate them but their probes could still affect them. Then later a bioweapon was made against Species 8472.
I just think they bumped into the changelings and are controlling them. There is a Voyager episode where the species made a fake starfleet academy to practice infiltration Earth and Starfleet. I am trying not to repeat myself so just look at my previous post about my conjecture on this.

After seeing the teaser for this week's episode with "The Face" aka Vadic's boss it seems he isn't a Changeling himself, so got me thinking what if he is a Pah-wraith?! The last avatar for the Pah-wraiths was Gul Dukat, what if he back but Non-corporeal using Vadic's arm as a way to communicate?!
Dukat is a fantastic character, but for best effect he needs Sisko or Kira to play against. I think this season doesn't have enough time remaining to set that up.

The Face reminds me of Future Guy from Enterprise. According to Brannon Braga, Future Guy would have turned out to be Jonathan Archer trying to repair history, so I'll speculate that Face is Picard himself, maybe bio-Picard, possibly with a corrupted mind, trying to ensure his own resurrection.

I will bet you William Shatner appearing in Picard as Kirk will be kept secret.

I think the only true ending for Picard would be if he manages to stop what is happening by actually talking things out and convinces both sides to some accord. If we end with Picard murdering an alien species I would not be happy with it.

“So here we are, where we were always going...to bring Jack Crusher where he most belongs. I am Vadic. Captain of the USS Titan. And, Jack, my dear, if you can hear me, it's time you learned who you truly are."

Could we be ending up at the Bajoran Wormholes?!!! Maybe just wishful thinking.

Could we finally be getting Part 2 to the "Reckoning?!"

Could the Pah-wraiths be trying to return to the Celestial Temple??

What if we find out Beverly and Jack aren't really who they say they are? Species 8472 are very good at genetic engineering. They could easily pass Starfleet medical scans. But no matter who the actual villain is, Starfleet can be fooled by clever genetic engineering. I think Troi when she shows up will be able to put to rest who is actually who. I would hope her power has developed more over time and use.

Man, this season got me rewatching TNG. I just love that series so much. Picard has been great each week!

Enjoyed that latest episode, some scenes were crowd pleasers for sure.

I'm loving Star Trek: Picard Season 3 it's a love letter to not just TNG but all Trek!!!

The only thing I'm hoping that happens in the last two episodes is some DS9 cameos, the Changeling threat this Season was always a DS9 storyline, so having TNG vs them is fun yet kinda odd the more you thing about it (yes I know Worf was on DS9 and there was the Odo shoutout, but besides that nothing else...) so hoping some Niners have a presence in the last two episodes (also odd Odo didn't tell Kira about the Changeling issue, unless she's been compromised already?!).

I have faith in Terry Matalas he knows his **** just want DS9 to have a moment this season as it did start out as there original threat (and again I know this a new version of The Changelings but tomato, tomahto I guess...)

What's your views?

I just want O'Brien back dammit (and Sisko but I know that's a much harder ask!!!)

On a side I'm surprised Garak and Bashir not on the case, with how super paranoid Garak is and a Spy through and through and Bashir with his genetic enhancements and possibly being a member of Section 31 (I know that's Beta Canon but a guy can wish) not see this happening. I love to see a side quest of these two fighting Changelings and arriving at Frontier Day same time as TNG Crew!!!

In TNG Season 6 there is an episode called Aquiel. They have a creature that is called a coalescent. It could mimic other lifeforms as well. I always wondered what happened to this species after the changelings became a thing in DS9. As far as being odd, it was more odd that we never got to see the TNG crew in the Dominion War. The flagship as it was often called and they stayed out of the fight. They had the best of the best on the ship and no one thought to make a Dominion War movie with them.

As far as the season we are on episode 9 and still don't know who the big bad is or what Jack is. The last two episodes stretched and could've been a single episode. I have a bad feeling the reveal will be a letdown after so much build up. I really don't like how Worf is just murdering all these non changelings in some scenes. I don't like Jack at all, and now that he has superpowers I like him even less. Depending on how this ends I probably won't watch it again, when I do Star Trek rewatches.

I'm thinking that the Dominion War situation with Picard's Enterprise might've been like with Pike's Enterprise during the Klingon War, where Starfleet sent a few of their best and brightest far away from the conflict just in case everything went really badly for the Federation. That could be another reason why Starfleet ordered Picard to stay away from the battle in First Contact, other than having doubts about Picard's reliability regarding the Borg.

Yeah. I enjoy trying to figure out where story arcs are going, but that feels like empty calories after a while. By the 80% point of the arc, any remaining mystery should be "How are the protagonists going to solve the problem?", rather than "What are the characters' secrets, and what exactly is the threat?"

Yeah I also enjoy solving the mystery way more than what we are getting. As for the Enterprise and what you mentioned about the Federation sending them away. It really doesn't make sense to send away your best in case you lose. You would stand a better chance with them than without. The only explanation that would make sense is the fact that the Enterprise D has women and children on board and really shouldn't be in a war. Of course you could clear it out and have only essential personnel.

On a side note. I don't think we see Picard resolve this season diplomatically, which would be a shame. It will probably turn into a cgi fleet battle. I can already see Data controlling all these ships since now they are linked together.

They have some nerve to string us along for 9 episodes. They don't have any good faith built up from S1 and S2.

All I know is this is hands down the best of new Trek, so it’s not so much being strung along for 9 episodes for the reveal of a mystery, and more enjoying the ride and emotion of it. Even if the reveal is disappointing, doesn’t take away the fact of the greatness of some of these episodes.

Heads-up, major spoilers for the final episodes have leaked, including screenshots, and can be found on Reddit and elsewhere. If you don't want to be spoiled, best to stay offline the next week.

Thanks for the heads up

I heard but fortunately not seen anything about spoilers for the finale. Good thing I don't use reddit or Twitter.

What a shame, we keep using the same thing over and over.
Season 1, 2, and now 3 all used the borg.
It's like all writers seem to know about Picard is: Earl Grey, Engage,
and the Borg.
You know he is also into archeology, history, and quite cunning. He can defuse a situation with just words sometimes. Yet we keep coming back to this one thing.

Despite avoiding spoilers or details I still unfortunately did spot that in an errant screencap. How is that not scraping the barrel, again?

What an amazing episode this week! That ending hit me in the feels so hard!
I really enjoyed the third act more than almost the entire season. This season has been a marked improvement over the first two, especially the second, but it also gets weighed down by having to follow it.
