The Official Cell Phone Junkies Thread - Part 2

My friend and fellow nerds on the internet are recommending Telegram to me and I've been looking at it, but I'm not sure about these third party message apps. Samsung Messages is functional, but it looks like Google Messages will be taking its place soon as seen on the new Galaxy phones.

Now I learned Microsoft Teams allows SMS text integration along with their Chat system. But you cannot set it as your default SMS app.

Correction: when you send an SMS, it's just an invite to use Teams which isn't any different than every other messenger app out there.

I was going to use Signal, but they're also removing their SMS support. I just don't like using Google's services if I don't have to. Samsung Messages is limited in what it can do.

So you can use Signal SMS until April 15th.

Why would you use Teams as your default SMS app?

Have you looked into Textra? I've been using it for years as my stock messaging app and it also supports MMS.

I don't. I just thought it was interesting that MS is going there, but I was mistaken. They do have an SMS app but it's still in Beta. Yeah I looked into it, too. But I heard it has ads if you don't pay for it.

Why do these companies keep doing the bare minimum with phone colors?

Why no gold or yellow for the S23 Ultra? Why!

You know what color in recent memory really caught my eye? The not pink Pixel 3 and the gold iPhone 8

Love those tones on a smartphone and nothing really comes close though with recent releases, so it's been safe-bet black for me until something catches my eye. Sigh.

i like those colors, i just feel like they'd show dirty easily

So for anyone who is budget-conscious, but wants flagship performance, the Pixel 7 is definitely worth a look.

How do some of you get rid of your phones?

I got a new iPhone and Apple was going to give me a credit based on my non cracked still working phone. They claim some things aren't working and were only going to give me 1/4 what they initially said. I requested they send it back. Now I have another phone in a drawer.

I know Walmart takes phones but it's not much more than what Apple was going to give me at the end.

best buy used to do trade in for gift cards?

I took the plunge and pre-ordered the Pixel Fold in black:

excited to have a foldable but I'm stressing having to dip a toe outside of the Apple ecosystem. Already planning on using Blue Bubbles for iMessage and I found sync apps for iPhoto and iCloud Drive. Will I instantly regret this? We'll find out in a month when they ship this thing.

Now I remember why I never got an iPhone.

Upgraded my S9+ to the S23 Ultra since I got a nice Black Friday deal ($1035 CAD after taxes and discounts/coupons).

I would have preferred the S23+ since I don't really need the S-pen and don't really want a mini tablet in my pockets but it was either the Ultra or the base S23. I usually upgrade my phones every 4-5 years so I spoiled myself with a big boi.

Replaceable battery would mean people can keep their phone much longer so of course they want to stop that anyway they can.

It's a hefty fine ($500 million), but Apple can afford it.

Samsung officially revealed the Galaxy S24 series and the Galaxy AI service.
