Secret Wars discussion

Feige pulling a Thanos?

Sounds great in theory. He would probably nail it too. Let's be honest, most of the actual directors are just proxies.

I just can't see him leaving Marvel after Secret Wars or spending 2-3 years of his time on one film, while others are left to run Marvel in his place.

That doesn't really change anything. It's a speculative article for a scenario that has no shot at happening, and is essentially clickbait. But @Venom 1988 's point remains the same whether Jamie is the author or not.

I agree about it not happening. I made that exact same point before @Venom 1988. We're all on the same page.

He didn't know that the user that posted it wrote the article and I corrected him. That's all.

Also, unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't want the Russos to come back. They did great with Infinity War and Endgame was... okay to me, but their post-MCU projects haven't impressed me and I think it's time to let someone else handle an Avengers movie, especially Secret Wars, ambitious a prospect that would be. I concur that Ryan Coogler would also be a good choice though.

But reading responses from a lot of MCU fans online criticizing Raimi's directorial style (cheesy, corny, outdated, that he'd be incapable of handling a project of this size and bring about the wrong tone for it, to paraphrase a few), I don't think it's very likely at the moment that he'll be picked. Would be a dream though.
I honestly don't think Sam Raimi could handle a big cast.

The main why I want Russo Brothers back is how they juggled the cast of Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame so well. Thats like 3 huge movies and all of them were a success. I feel like they really worked with Kevin Feige unlike in their NetfliX projects where is no Feige.

Raimi with Spider-Man 3 and Multiverse of Madness doesn't feel with any confidence that he would be as good as the Russo bros. directing an Avengers film.

That comes down more to the script than direction, IMO. Which I would imagine Raimi would not be doing on Secret Wars. When it comes to the Russos in more recent years post Endgame, I now wonder if Markus/McFeely were more responsible for the quality and juggling to characters than the Russos at this point. They wrote most of the MCU's strongest entries. I am not so sure a script by the MoM writer with the Russos will not just result in something similar to MoM. Which, for the record, I loved MoM. But I would agree the Illuminati def felt tacked on, and really it was all about Strange, America, and Wanda. Which an Avengers movie needs to be more ensemble

Russos are the only ones we've seen can actually handle an ensemble of that size
Coogler didn't handle it that well in BP2, Cretton hasn't had to juggle that many characters yet, Whedon's a no-go

Them and M&M contributed equally to the success of a number of Marvel's best films
So if all 4 of those guys came back I'd be ecstatic
Sadly that doesn't look to be in the cards, but I hope Cretton surprises us all on KD

The Russos might have been misfiring since leaving the MCU but maybe they are suited here with the full support network and with M&M writing. At least with that team and whoever else is supporting including Feige advising from above, we know that full combination can succeed based on their prior MCU work.

Count me in as wanting the Russo's back. I don't care for their stuff outside of the MCU but their MCU films are some of the best well received and financial successful films of all time. I feel like they could've even made something like Eternals work.

It's too bad Marvel can't land any big legendary Directors. This is a pipe dream but I would love to see what a George Miller Avengers film would look like. He at one point was going to direct a Justice League film back in the day. All I can do is dream.

Maybe it’s to do with the lack of total freedom you might get on films that aren’t in a cinematic universe this deep in. Hopefully they can get the types of creatives who will at least work well enough within the MCU framework to achieve what Phase 3 did. Some like the Russos seem better suited to it compared to when they are making films outside of it.

So, this just occurred to me. With the Flash having bombed at the box office and fans and the general audience starting to develop an outright contempt for any multiverse related media recently, does anyone else think this movie is going to be majorly reworked to be more like OG Secret Wars where it mostly focuses on Reed, Doom/or/Kang and Battleworld?

Just a thought since I figure Feige might be paying attention to how sick people seem to be getting of Hollywood using the multiverse concept and change shifts with this and Kang Dynasty.

The multiverse is the latest gimmick, but if done well it can work and not shoddily as with some of The Flash and even Multiverse of Madness. But the studios are jumping into it way quicker than then need to and not really doing it organically.

I think everyone knew this was going to be rebooted at some point. Will be interesting to see what they keep, bring back and start fresh with.

They don't even have to do a "reboot". The X-Men won't have a feature film until Secret Wars is over. Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Shang-Chi 2/3, there's still plenty of characters that they can/should focus after Secret Wars. I'd also save Thunderbolts and Blade, post Secret Wars, rather than debuting them full time in 2025, when there's a big chance they would just flop like the Marvels, in that year.

Secret Wars will probably focus on 616 characters (Avengers, F4, Eternals, Guardians ) + characters from others universes. Too crazy. We need a four hour movie for this

Now we know universes that MCU multiverse included are below:
838
X-men Beast universe seen in the marvels
Raimiverse
Webbverse
Venomverse
Netflixverse (to be confirmed)
Freshman years (to be confirmed)

I hope not:
Fox X-men
Fox F'4
Fox F4reboot
Blade
Fox Daredevil

Or just splitting Secret Wars into two movies would work.

Wasn't Endgame a soft reboot? He did basically say it was like an ending for the MCU.
