The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

The CGI I’ve seen so far for The Flash isn’t that bad. I’ve seen worse in Marvel films. Does no one remember how terribly done the CGI was done for Black Panther climax? More recently, Ant-Man: Quantumania had some shoddy CGI

Pretty certain this is an industry wide issue. I do remember reading how overworked MCU visual effects were and how they’ve been given ridiculous deadlines

I can understand this being an issue with Disney/Marvel due to the large amount of films they produce within a short span of time.

However, this film has experienced several delays since the first day they started rolling the cameras. Also, I've seen several CGI shots in this film that I feel like could have been done practically.

'The Flash' Shelved Because of Ezra Miller? Those Reports Were False - Variety

“If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Andy Muschietti said about having Miller back as the Flash. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.”

“We have a lot of empathy in general for people who need help, and especially in mental health issues,” Andy said. “That’s why they are taking the necessary steps to deal with their recovery, and we support them in that.”

Gotta say, Muschietti is doing everything to make me not want to go see the movie.

Yeah, my feelings are similar. I hope they have empathy for all the people assaulted by the star of the movie too.

I usually manage to get free tickets to stuff becouse of friends/job related things. I want to see this for the cameos, but I have no interest in paying my own money for it.

To be honest, I kind of feel conflicted about this movie. On one hand, I don't want to support anything that Ezra is involved with. However, I may regret not watching Michael Keaton as Batman on the big screen.

It sucks that the blue/gray Batman suit is finally on the big screen but in the background of a shot. Look at that suit! Is gorgeous!

Honestly, I don't get much from these suits...

Some of them just look bad to me, others don't seem to belong at all in Keaton's Batman universe...
With some more touch-up, I could believed in the far-right one for that particular older Bruce Wayne, as there's a nice mix between the famour TDKReturns armor and the Batman Returns costume.
But, yeah...

I know a lot of people are waiting for a blue/gray costume. But to show this kind of thing through easter eggs, with no diegetic coherence, is typical of the superficiality of metamodern films and why I just can't care for it.
And the fact that these are getting (probably expensive) Hot Toys figures is... heh.

Yep, ranting again... :funny:

You have to understand that many years have passed. Batman and Gotham are very different. The suit is going to evolve with the man and his city.

As for Ezra, they are scum. Like level 12 scum. Outside of their performance I have zero good to say about them and likely never will. That said though my guess (and I may be wrong it's conjecture) is it seems AM has a strong relationship with Ezra and cares for them. As such he feels the need to defend them. Having seen what can be the fallout of turning your back on people I can understand that. I don't agree with AM in any way but I also won't condemn him for having empathy. I would also say it is not for the public man, just say "I am not going to comment on them" and leave it be.

And yes more empathy is needed for those that Ezra hurt. 1000000%.

It might be the lighting but from the trailers it looks like Batfleck is rocking the Blue and grey in this movie!

I understand what you're saying, but that's not really what I was talking about... ^^'
If the passage of time is indeed something to be taken into account in new designs, there are still stylistic guidelines built up by the two previous films.
My point was that here, and to me, some costume just look completely out of place/universe, regardless of diegetic parameters like the passing of time. Kind of like if I saw the sonar suit from Batman Forever behind Bale in Rises.

But I understand that not everyone attaches the same importance to little things like that, and ultimately it shouldn't be something that makes or breaks the film anyway. :cwink:

Oh it's absolutely blue and grey !
And to continue what I was saying above, here this proposal doesn't seem out of place to me, as the DCEU never had a visual style as assertive as Burton's films, and has shown some colorful designs here and there.

That said, I still find the overall costume design and rendering rather questionable but I'm a broken record there. :D

Having Ben in the Blue and Grey i think is tonally symbolic to where his Bruce is now as opposed to when we met him in BvS. I’m anticipating he’ll be very much in “classic Batman” mode when we see him in this movie which i think is what the fans wanted all along.

If he was this Batman in BvS it would have been better, but then it wouldnt be BvS either because this Batman doesn't try to kill Superman because he is sad. This is closer to a World's Finest Batman.

This Batman and Snyder don't mix.

My biggest reason to want to see this film is to see some final cool (even if short) scenes with Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I Love Affleck in the role, even if I am not the biggest fan of any of the films he was in. Keaton is really cool too of course. While I am very curious how all these various speedforce cameos will be, those generally dont mean anything besides fan service . Like those CW/Titans cameos but with a big budget.

The irony here is that it looks like they used CGI costume, as opposed to a practical one, for all of Ben's Batman shots.

OK...I saw this last night and I had a good enough time with it. It's very funny and it was wonderful seeing Keaton again but MAN all the "one of the best superhero films of all time" stuff just does not compute for me.

I'm not even sure it was as satisfying of a multiverse adventure as No Way Home to be honest. Having Dafoe return was an extra ace in the hole, whereas this movie really lacks a compelling villain and weirdly I don't think it actually "gets nuts" enough. I walked away feeling like there were still a lot of cool "what ifs" that were left on the table, whereas No Way Home really seemed to scratch that multiverse itch. Yes, there are a lot of unexpected Easter eggs and nods but they ring hollow and aren't really essential to the story, as far as I can tell.

It's good, don't get me wrong...for DC's recent standards this is a slam dunk and it should be a great summer crowd-pleaser, but it's a solid double to me at best, not a home run.

I normally don't like being negative or trying to rain on anyone's hype parade, but I figure if I can get anyone to lower their expectations a tad and they end up enjoying the movie more because it's just me and I'm a very jaded superhero moviegoer at this point... then I'll have done something good. :D

I've been watching superhero stuff since I was pretty much born, and I feel the "super hero hype" was the most fun during Iron Man/TDK to Endgame. I never thought I'd see the day where I wasn't seeing every super hero film released by Marvel/DC, but here we are. Just recently got around to watching both the new Shazam and Ant-Man lol.

I'm still excited for The Flash, but I've seen a handful of similar reviews to yours. So I'm keeping my expectations pretty mild.

Dude you and I have similar opinions on things, so I'm definitely gonna temper my expectations now. Still looking forward to seeing Keaton again and just gonna try to enjoy myself overall. There's way too much hyperbole in the CBM community these days and I never bought the "one of the best cbm of all time" stuff. But if it's good, that's all I can ask for and I'm still excited. I'm expecting a good time.

Haven't been following, yet piecing together the The Dark Keaton Returns Batman side of things ....

Keatons first re-appearance ...

Reminds me of old-man De La Vega in Mask, then he cleans up to go back into action, when the new gen arrives.
I imagine they are going pretty much full circle.
He'll likely emerge out of the shadows.
When the pupil is ready....

...the master will appear.

Although for some reason it's a weird Barry Allen Flashbat-Beyond hybrid and not Miguel O'Hara, I mean, not Terry McGinnis?

If the ears are properly splayed out (and it looks like they might), I'd be tempted to get the first-appearance somewhat Golden-Age pulp inspired one. (minus the kneepads) and need to add a batarang and rope, and make the yellow target "logo" removable.

Though other than a thematic background shot doesn't look like any of these will play into the movie.

I will say this. Obviously it was playing to a crowd of fans, but the audience ATE it up and were laughing and cheering throughout. Go in the right expectations and you'll have a great time, for sure! Seeing Keaton brought a smile to my face for sure. I just wish it didn't have that aura of "best DC film since TDK" around it, that kind of made it hard for me not to judge it a bit more harshly just bc I cannot stand the hyperbole about the genre at this point.

I'm just honestly not sure if I can say this is better than No Way Home. It hits a lot of similar beats, so the comparison is right there.

No Way Home is the only MCU Spider-Man movie I've seen, and that was last weekend.

And well, I hope The Flash will be different because I was really surprised by the amount of plot holes in this movie. The writing was very, very shallow, even by superhero movie standards.
I'm not asking for deep writing or ground-breaking stuff, but sometimes I feel like it's too much to expect these films to simply just hold up story-wise...

Look fans say that about every film. Best since TDK!!!) Literally every, single one. It annoys me but I just ignore it. Even TDK isnt the film these fans pretend it is.

I love the film but it isn't the best cbm ever. It might be one of my faves...but that is a different set of criteria which gets lost in these conversations. Plenty of better films, few I enjoyed as much.
