Ghost Patrol (2016)

Animated movie made for Canadian TV. Youngsters Gabi and Spence, along with their dog Spooky, are the 'Ghost Patrol'. They cycle around town - armed with camera and EMF meter - investigating reports of ghosts; but they've yet to actually see one. When Gabi's estate agent mother is tasked with trying to sell the run-down, 'so-creepy-it-must-be-haunted' Geist Manor, Gabi and Spence jump at the chance to sneak in one night and hopefully finally find the proof they've been looking for.

The two leads (voiced by Lili Beaudoin and Travis Turner) are engaging, and the settings are enjoyably eerie - with an overall feel somewhere in the middle of Scooby-Doo, The Funky Phantom, and The Real Ghostbusters. The 3D animation is fine and very similar to that of the Inspector Gadget reboot show a few years back. At under an hour long this is perfect for kids at Halloween (and kids should appreciate the swipes aimed at social media throughout). The ending (although conclusive) sets up for further adventures - although I've not found anything to say there were any. Shame. This is an easy, relaxed, family watch. 6/10

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

10/10.

Amazing
animation and visuals.

Astonishing voice acting

Spectacular story and heart.

Man, I can’t believe what I just witnessed. And I thought ITSV raised the bar for animation so I, that I couldn’t see how it could be surpassed but boy howdy this team somehow manage to do the seemingly impossible and raised the bar again. This is not only one of the best superhero films I’ve ever laid witnessed to, but it may be the best animated movie I’ve seen and it’s definitely the best Multiversal movie I’ve seen(it’s only tied with Everywhere All At Once) but I can’t decide if I like it better than the first one yet. It’ll take some time as I do need to do a rewatch of the original at some point again to really solidify my thoughts but wow…just wow. This was just a transcendent cinematic experience that I will forget. It’s going to be hard to see Part two topping this one but man…that cliffhanger left me wanting to see the next movie so bad. I wish I had a Time Machine so I can travel to March 2024 to see Part 2. The wait is gonna be as agonizing as the wait for Avengers Endgame after Infinity War ended on that cliffhanger.

TERRA FORMARS (2016) directed by Takeshi Miike, starring Rinko Kikuchi, Rila Fukishuma, Hideako Ito.

500 years in the future, a group of convicts are sent to Mars to take care of the cockroach problem caused by a centuries old terra-forming project. What they are not told until they get there....the roaches are 8 foot tall, humanoid looking, and super strong and fast. The convicts are then told that the medical procedures they went through before they left for Mars was to change them genetically into human/bug hybrids. This is one crazy ass movie.See how many of the ripoffs of STAR WARS, BLADE RUNNER, and every other popular sci fi films you can find between the beheadings, stomped to mush, crazy genetic mutations that can be packed into 2 hours.
