Donnelly says: "What the hell was that?"
and he says: "I don't know, ??????????? ass"

I know culo is ass in Italian, but does it have the same meaning in Spanish?

I'm from Panama, my main language is Spanish. What he said was "Yo no sé, pero por poco me parte el culo" which literally translates to "I don't know, but it almost broke my ass." I assume what they were trying to get him to say was that he almost crapped his pants.

"Breaking the ass", here in Argentina, is a lot like "kicking the ass" in the US. It means beating someone really hard (or killing, in this case)
