I think it would be really cool if Disney/Lucasfilm introduced the concept of a multiverse to the Star Wars franchise.
If DC and Marvel could do it, why can't Star Wars?
This way, both Disney's new continuity and the Legends continuity are both considered canon without the works of either continuity contradicting their respective timelines.
Other universes could include the Infinities comics, the Dark Side alternate endings of LucasArts video games (Jedi Knight, Revenge of the Sith, Force Unleashed, etc.).
