While a potential Goodfellas TV series has been in the works for over a year, it just took a big step forward, with word that AMC is now the home for the project. Deadline reported the news, revealing that the network behind Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead is developing the TV version of the story of real life mobster Henry Hill.

Nicholas Pileggi, who wrote the movie, is co-writing the TV pilot with Jorge Zamacona (Homicide: Life on the Street), with the two executive producing along with the film's producer, Irwin Winkler and his son, David. The show will be produced by Warner Horizon Television (sister company Warner Bros. made the film).

While it's hard not to be wary whenever a TV show is made based on such a beloved film, Pileggi and Winkler's involvement is at least encouraging – even if director Martin Scorsese is not a part of the project.
