...having him leave was primarily to help alleviate the struggle of dealing with such a large cast. Same reason they killed off Gilgamesh before bringing in Phastos.

It did feel awkward though, having a prominent member of the cast just...go home. I was certain he was gonna show up to save Sersi from Sprite, but instead they had Druig somehow survive. I guess they really didn't want to kill off Druig, maybe they have plans for him and Makkari.
