The 2001-released Onimusha: Warlords is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on January 15, 2019 for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99, Capcom announced. It will be released digitally across North America and Europe, with a physical release in North America available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Here is an overview of the game, via Capcom:

About
Capcom’s classic samurai adventure Onimusha: Warlords comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. Originally released in 2001 for PlayStation 2, Onimusha: Warlords blended thrilling action with a cinematic story to sell over 2 million copies worldwide. Capcom brings the original Onimusha: Warlords to players now with updated features such as high-definition graphics, widescreen display options, analog stick support, a new soundtrack and an Easy Mode available right from the start.

Onimusha: Warlords follows the battle-filled journey of samurai Samanosuke Akechi and ninja Kaede on a quest to save Princess Yuki from a legion of mysterious demons who have invaded Inabayama Castle. As the two travel throughout the castle, they unravel a malevolent plot by those who would serve the evil lord Nobunaga Oda. Using sword-based combat, a magical Oni Gauntlet and puzzle solving, players need to call on both brawn and creativity to defeat the demonic foes.
Key Features

    • High-Definition Graphics – Characters, background graphics, and cut scenes have been given a high-definition update to enhance the visibility on players’ quest to save the princess.
    • Widescreen Support, New Display Options – Both the original game’s display (4:3) and more standard widescreen display (16:9) are supported. Display settings can be changed between 4:3 and 16:9 at any time in-game. Specific screens, including parts of the menu screen, are fixed at either 16:9 or 4:3. A screen scroll feature in the widescreen mode adapts to players’ movements to show areas that otherwise aren’t fully visible.
    • Easy Mode Available From Start – Easy Mode is unlocked for players from the start of gameplay, which wasn’t available in the original game. This addition makes it easier for both newcomers and those who haven’t played Onimusha: Warlords for a while to dive into this world right away
    • Analog Stick Support – In addition to the controls from the original, this new release allows players to move using analog sticks. This added feature makes it easier to move instinctively and change directions quickly.
    • New Soundtrack – A brand new soundtrack and voices have been recorded to accompany the newest release of Onimusha: Warlords.

Well at least it's giving the franchise some attention. I would hope there would have been more additional features though, maybe some extra skins. Hopefully it shows people would be interested in a new game.

Kinda wish it was a trilogy release, but I'll take the first. Hope they get around to the other two. Onimusha 2 is one of my all time favorite games.

And I know there was a fourth Onimusha game, but it was hot garbage so I don't count it. As far as I'm concerned there are three Onimusha games.

Onimusha 2 was the highlight of the series, but I did think the fourth game was a decent entry also. I even liked Blade Warriors to an extent.

I wish this was redrawn from scratch and given more bonus content.

Me too. I was always kinda annoyed that the only extra skin you unlocked for Samonosuke was a panda costume.

In April of this year, Capcom had been filing some very interesting trademarks for Onimusha; which had a lot of fans of the series wondering if this was about a brand new title or a remake of sorts. It wasn't until August that Capcom would officially reveal that Onimusha: Warlords was getting an HD remaster.

Onimusha: Warlords will be coming out on the 15th of January in 2019, and will be available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam for fans to relive this brilliant action-adventure title that seemed to have been completely forgotten by Capcom.

Not only have the graphics been improved in Onimusha: Warlords, but the game has also seen a revision to the original controls—which now offer an improved experience—as well as a new soudntrack.

Today, we have great news as the verified Twitter account for Capcom USA has shared a post stating that Onimusha: Warlords has officially become available for pre-orders across all available platforms, so players better be getting those katanas ready to see the return of Onimusha in January.

Back in August, Capcom surprised us all by announcing that they would be remastering Onimusha: Warlords. The PlayStation 2 classic would now become available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam on the 15th of January.

We are only a few weeks away from Onimusha: Warlords release date and, since the announcement, Capcom has been releasing a few more trailers that show the new and improved graphics the game will be getting.

Now, this isn't a remaster in the same vein of Resident Evil 2, so graphics have been changed just enough to give it a slightly more updated look now that the game has transitioned to High Definition graphics.

This new comparison video for Onimusha: Warlords, recently posted on the YouTube channel of Direct-Feed Games, pits the original game against the Nintendo Switch version of Onimusha: Warlords, and the changes in this side-by-side video become very apparent.

Check it out:

Back in April of last year, rumours about a new Onimusha game were doing the rounds as Capcom was filing trademarks for the long-neglected, but never forgotten franchise.

As it turns out, Capcom wasn't planning a new game but an HD remaster of the classic Onimusha: Warlords released on the PlayStation 2 all the way back in 2001; as revealed by the developer in August of last year Onimusha: Warlords was being developed for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam.

This new remaster isn't just enhancing the game's visuals, since it is also implementing analog stick controls, adding widescreen support for 16:9 televisions, and allowing players to change their weapons on the spot during combats.

As Onimusha: Warlords becomes available for home consoles and Steam today, Capcom has released a new action-packed trailer that goes over the game's new features to celebrate the occasion; as the perfect excuse for seasoned players to replay the game, and encourage newcomers to try this timeless classic.

Take a look:

It's been so much fun playing this again over the last couple of days. I really hope they give Onimusha 2 the same treatment. The kids today must learn the greatness of Gogandantess.

I love Gogandantes and the designs of Onimusha 2. Funnily enough the character designer directed this weird (and cool) ninja movie I saw as a kid. You can really see his distinctive style.
