That mid credits scene where Spider-Man's identity is publicly revealed can be retconned this way, Mysterio is alive and well, but he managed to capture Spider-Man somehow and leave him in a simulation machine, and he's having too much fun messing around with him to make his identity go public.

Or if what he saw on screen was not what everyone else saw, and people saw something like a movie star but his mask lenses were somehow infused with B.A.R.F?

Just the idea, without thinking if the execution is good or not, how will you react? How do you think the audience will react to this? Is it a more faithful depiction than him taking the identity publicly?

I doubt it. Peter is shown to have mastered his spider senses in the final fight. Regardless, it was a terrible cliffhanger.

I’ve considered this, and also the possibility there’s no J. Jonah Jameson in the MCU.
