Who Wants to See Kristen Stewart Star in the Martyrs Remake?

Well Thor doesn't have an American as a lead..;) I do think the world's changing due to the internet, where actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor are getting exposed easier than let's say 10 years ago. 10 years ago, an actor like Cumberbatch in particular would never break through.

Well, I live around LA so when it comes to big metropolitan areas, be it New York or Austin, TX, there's a wide variety of film buffs, cinemaphiles, and geeks who embrace the world of film.

With me, I've seen 12 Years a Slave, Kill Your Darlings, The Grandmaster, and The Spectacular Now recently.

Keep in mind though: America is a big place. People may have different priorities; or aren't as open as a person like me or who ever.

Chris is Australian and Cumberbatch British but they both speak English.
Anyway, at least it is a sub genre remake, it's not like a remake of The Artist ( to name a recent French success ).
And from all the French stuff that could be remade for the US, an hardcore torture porn which will be probably tamed is chosen.
Hey, maybe K Steward will be good in it, who knows.

BUT.....You specifically said AMERICAN though, hence my example.

If you're taking about foreign films with subtitles, oh no, it'll never hit the lexicon of America. I think the last one that did make a REAL cultural impact here was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Yes, I said American, I should have said english-speaker instead, your examples were fine.
I am sure that if Martyrs was an UK or AUS movie it would not have been remade, I could be wrong of course.
I can understand the reluctance for subtitles but you can also dub the actors/actresses ( in regards to Martyrs ).

AFAIC, I could not see an english-speaking movie with French dubbing nor French subtitles.

The world's changing though so I'm optimistic that as the years go by, the more people will look down on 'English' remakes of foreign language films.

For example, the Oldboy remake seems so redundant since the original reached the public broadly enough that even my friend who isn't a film person knew about the Korean version.

I'm not sure if the unsettling horror of the original can be translated into a Hollywood production. Chances are it'll be turned into Hostel with a dash of supernatural elements.
