BP needs to be held responsible for this. I just realized how bad this is. Before I knew about it...but just not long ago read the latest update and ugh :csad:.

Hurricane season is a coming....this may go from pretty bad to a **** storm quick.

With a heavy hurricane season predicted, yeah there are several scenarios that could happen....

BP will and is being held responsible....

It looks like we won't know for another week if this new dome, which is already down there next to the leak will work. It won't stop it completely, but it will slow it down considerably until August when the relief wells are in operation.

There is a leaked BP memo running around that in the first week they (BP) estimated the leak was 10,000 to 14,000 barrels/ day.

I have a feeling this will shut BP down for good, I don't think they will be able to come back from this, and we will begin to see the unemployment rate really hit the South particularly Texas, which it really hasn't like it has the rest of the country......

Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi will be hit much harder than most realize I think....

BP should be shut down. Their incompetence in this situation is unforgivable.

So when they told us 1,000 they were lying, and then the "updated" 5,000 estimate was also a lie. Normally I'm not a fan of big government, but they should fine the bastards the maximum ($4,300 per barrel). It won't happen because the politicians have been bought off by the oil industry, but it should happen.

I thought the administration said 1 million gallons a day, which is about 23 thousand + barrels a day

It's not simple, a lot of people in mutual funds are getting killed by BP as it is. They shutdown... it won't be pretty. Kind of like what happened with the two major car companies.

The kicker is that I'm sure all, or at least nearly all, of the gas companies would have done exactly what BP did, if given the chance. Maybe they're doing it right now, trying to get away with safety inspections or standards. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

BP was just unlucky enough to have been caught in this manner.

What really makes me mad is BP trying to lobby for a cap on how much they'd have to pay. It's a free market, isn't it? Paying for your messups is part of the whole package. :o

That's precisely why the head of the MMS resigned/was fired this week. Reports came out that MMS investigators were giving wavers in return for financial gain from the oil companies. One investigator sent emails asking for a $65,000 per year job if he gave Shell a number of wavers. And sure enough he ended up working at Shell. He even continued helping Shell at the MMS after he had already accepted the job.

Sorry don't cut it buster, he should be forced to sit through five Celine Dion concerts

I can't handle pics like the above....

That video is by biologist Marc Gauthier. That pic of a bird that got oil all over it, tried to get rid of it by consuming it and of course died. Talks about how he threw up to the fumes from the bubbling oil (sun light) residuals there.

According to the AP, BP CEO Tony Hayward is denying the existence of underwater oil clouds.

I have a very hard time seeing BP survive this.

Oh I agree, however there is a difference between letting a company slowly wither away and fail and putting and end to said company.

BP's quarterly profit was about 5 billion. They're not going under anytime soon.

Once the 11 deaths are compensated, the fishermen are compensated, the tourism is compensated, and the states are compensated.....along with the millions they will be fined by the Federal and State governments, THEN....we can take a good look at whether or not they are going under.

That little profit has already been spent....

Last I checked, the fine for oil spills is roughly $4,000 a barrel. There are now upwards of 39 million barrels spilled. They will be paying heavy, heavy fines in the aftermath of this disaster.

Man, they can't stop ANYTHING from leaking, can they?
