James Bond 24

Mendes saved Bond after that awful follow up to Royale so I'm happy. Hopefully the movie isn't as much like TDK as the last one was. I really, really enjoyed the film but he should give the Nolan worship a rest. Has the same director ever come back for back to back Bond movies before? I'm thinking no.

John Glen directed 5 straight bond films in the 80's.

I agree. I just felt his action set-pieces underwhelming for what we would expect for Bond, as action is not his strong suit.

Martin Campbell is still my preferred modern Bond director.

Pretty much the same for me, it was like he shot his bolt with the pre0credits scene and had nowhere to go.

Yep GoldenEye & Casino Royale are my favourite Campbell movies I hope he returns again to direct a Bond film.

And Terence Young directed the two first movies (and returned on Thunderball). Guy Hamilton made three in a row with Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun. So returning directors were pretty common back in the old days. :)

I disagree, its obvious they went with the smaller climax on purpose and that fight scene in the middle as well as Bond getting control on Silva's island were some of the coolest looking action we've seen from Bond in years

Yeah i think it was Campbell who broke the trend by not coming back for Tomorrow. I think it was due to scheduling he didn't return?

There was nothing small about the climax of a chopper attacking Skyfall Lodge, it was just very poorly shot. The two fight scenes were fine (Shanghai mainly due to the lighting) but everything after they caught Silva was merely average IMO.

I was wondering why I had not seen this posted on the forums yet, then I realised that we were no longer using the Skyfall thread to which I had subscribed, and I have probably missed months of priceless Bond-banter. :(

I am delighted that Mendes is returning. Skyfall was one of those movies that everyone I know enjoyed, so I have high hopes.

Amazing news and I'm thrilled to see Mendes back on directing duties for Bond. Can't wait for what's in store for 24.

Terence Young did the first two films, Guy Hamilton did three back to back, Lewis Gilbert did two back to back and John Glen did Five back to back.

The funny thing is that except for Young, of them really had huge success on back to back movies, either critically or financially..

Pretty much the same for me, it was like he shot his bolt with the pre0credits scene and had nowhere to go.

I enjoyed the the other action sequences though the others weren't as massive or long. If I had a to make a prediction, I'd expect the next movie be like Craig's Thunderball and expect them to go crazy with the next Bond movie.

I love the action scenes in Skyfall. I do think there's a little bit of a disconnect as the film went on; maybe it's a confidence thing as the shoot went on because the opening shot and the Shanghai stuff are filled with such bravado.

I just think the disconnect lies in the fact that the other sequences weren't as intricate as the first one, but I think the Silva chase scene and the Skyfall manor battle made up for by being very emotionally engaging.

Yeah but overall they're still easy to follow (no shakey) and great for a director who was a novice with action. And while I love Nolan, Mendes has a better eye for action; he just needs to work on his momentum.

So to me it wasn't a big problem. I think Skyfall is a great film though I think the pacing is not consistent.

I loved the end attack on the house. SkyFall had it's issues but I still really enjoyed it.

Yeah, Skyfall was a remarkable movie, and whatever faults I had with it is just minor.

Consider me among the ones who are very excited that Sam is back for another one. I love Skyfall :woot:

Love he's back, can't wait to see what he does with Bond now after he's already taken Bond to new heights as a character.

Perhaps you haven't seen any of the pre-Brosnan Bonds... or have you?

That's the premiere date of "Ant-Man" too

Is that a safe spot? Marvel VS Bond

Mendes, Craig, Wishaw, Harris and Finnes all coming back.

For that to happen it would have to actually be competitive. Marvel's gonna move. Bond would slaughter Ant-Man at the box office.

Delighted with this news, Skyfall is the best Craig Bond movie for me and personally my favourite bond movie ever. Welcome back Sam, I'm sure you will give us something amazing.

Cant believe people are complaining about the action scenes in the 2nd half of Skyfall either, I thought they were all great, especially the Silva chase through the tunnels and the end fight at Skyfall.
