Iron Man Sequels The villain(s) of IM4 thread

I'd rather the Mandarin from the One-Shot be the owner of a rival corporation who secretly plans to overthrow China. He's what Tony Stark would be if he were EVIL.

I'd also make him a shadowy background presence. He's the bigger bad guy who doesn't get much screen time and only appears at the beginning of the film and after the credits.

The villains should be Zeke Stane and Ghost. Ghost is in it for the sake of proving that he's a superior hacker. Zeke is all about avenging his father. The best villains are the ones who a. you can sympathize with or b. have a personal connection to the hero. Zeke is both.

And Mandarin would swap out the traditional clothes for designer suits.

Iron Man 5 would be where Mandarin is angry over Zeke managing to release the schematics for Iron Man's armor to the world instead of to him alone so he manages to capture Zeke and Tony and forces them into a prison where he's uncovered a damaged Celestial that he wants to reactivate and wants his two prisoners to collaborate on Project Ultimo.

And if these plotlines sound familiar, I am basing 4 off The Five Nightmares, Demon in a Bottle and Armor Wars and 5 off of The Future.

Iron Man 6 would be a psychological thriller where Whitney Frost is a crazy stalker who had her face burned off in Iron Man 4 when Tony saved her life and now wants to murder Pepper since she believes that Tony is in love with her.

So that's an homage to Iron Man 1 that would be a great way for Robert Downey Jr to say goodbye to the role while also adapting three of the best Iron man storylines, a prison break film that will give the audience the Mandarin they've always wanted to see and a giant robot to boot and then finally a thriller that would be far different from anything the films have done before.

I also like Sunset Bain, Living Laser and Spymaster.

I'd also make him a shadowy background presence.

We got that in IM3

Obidiah made ZERO mention of having a family in IM1...pass.

Let's face it. Iron Man 3 killed this franchise. Tony is no longer Iron Man and they turned his greatest nemesis into a joke. What is the point of making more Iron Man movies without Favreau?
Drivel and apocrypha. Iron Man 3 was adored by the general public... to the tune of a billion and a quarter dollars, and received a good critical reception. Comic book fans outside of the vocal "OMG they injusticized Mandarin" group liked the movie well enough.

Also, what nemesis was turned into a joke? Mandarin did not appear in Iron Man 3! Killian co-opted a whispered legend into a modern day, market researched boogeyman. Which movie did you watch?

Read more comics.

And we didn't get that version of Mandarin in IM3. We got that in All Hail The King.

I'm talking about building on that slowly and not rushing out another Mandarin movie right off the bat. The biggest complaint about the Iron Man movies was that Whiplash and Coldblood were underdeveloped. Ghost works as a secondary antagonist precisely because he/she has no real history and no confirmed identity but one heck of a cool factor. Zeke Stane is absolutely THE most personal threat that Tony has ever faced. If done well, he'll go down as one of the best CBM villains of all time.

IM5 would be taking a Mulligan on Mandarin while also not retreading IM3 by having the film be a film about two moral enemies teaming up to break out of captivity and having a fight against Ultimo with Tony having to guide Zeke on how to stage a jailbreak and making jokes about how Zeke's father put Tony through this same situation before like, "Are you implying that you don't know how to break out of prison? I was able to do it in a cave with a box of scraps."

Oh, and the finale is that Tony and Zeke are able to get an SOS out and the Ascendants come to rescue Tony and Zeke by busting into the Prometheus corporate HQ in Hong Kong. Tony and Zeke are able to suit up again with counterfeit armors that the Mandarin has been building, all of them together face off against Ultimo and Tony fights Mandarin who's used the Celestial technology to forge ten rings for himself in a climactic battle.

And Madame Masque was injured by Iron Man. She is also crazy and she has a really creepy crush on him.

Granted, a few things weren't 100% faithful to the comics but that's true of any adaptation.

I'd just rewrite Ghost to make him a better character.

Read more comics.

Oh, that wasn't a "who?" type of what, more like a "these are terrible ideas" what.

All we got was that some guy was Mad at Trevor and Killian for using his name, very shadows much deception, wow

IM1 never specifically said whether Obidiah Stane had a family one way or another. So I don't think it would cause any continuity problems if they used Ezekial down the line.

Though I still think a Count Nefaria/Madame Masque duo or the real Mandarin would be their best bet as far as IM4 is concerned.

You know, I wouldn't mind Zeke if only because I thought Stane was such a great villian. Seriously, he doesn't get brought up a lot when talking MCU villians, but that guy had it going. The scene were Pepper is downloading the information from his computer and Stane comes in, or when he "unplugs" Tony's arc reaction? Those moments had tension, they had a creep factor. Stane may not be the sort of comic book villian to really bash it out with the superheroes in an action heavy manner, but he did maniacal madman like a champ. If they could capture any of that energy in Zeke I'd be happy.

You can take away my house, all my tricks and toys. One thing you can't take away...I am Iron Man.

So, either you have ADD or you didn't pay attention, which leads me to....

How? The image of the Mandarin was a joke, and hell, it is a joke. He's re-written in every arc he's featured in, and I can't think of one thing Mandarin has actually done to Tony Stark in the comics that bears remembering. Now Killian, One-Shot or not, was a great threat. He blew his freakin' house up for christ's sakes! Tony's biggest nemesis isn't Vanko, or Stane, Hammer, Killian, or Mandarin. It's himself. In various media and stories, Tony Stark's biggest problem is Tony Stark....and all three films, this & IM1 in particular, showed that. The way AoU is shaping up, that will prove it too.

Now that's a good post.

Zeke could appear, they didn't realy need to mention Obadiah's family, and Obadiah doesn't get brought up much because, while he had his moments, by the end of the movie what was his plan? Escape in that heavy armor? To Where? Once he was found out, he was pretty much done for.

Either way, Marvel is now bringing another "real Mandarin", so Zeke would be far from such a big retcon compared to that, whoever the villain is next, i would like to see Stark maturing more, if they replace RDJ, it would be easier for that actor to then try portraying this more serious character than copying RDJ's performance.

About other storylines, not every idea from the comics was good, quite the oposite, but Zeke's one that could work.

I posted this in another thread, but I'd like to see the Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom be the villains in Iron Man 4.

Oh, that wasn't a "who?" type of what, more like a "these are terrible ideas" what.

So in other words, you hated Davind Michelinie and Matt Fraction's runs on Iron Man since the former did Armor Wars and the latter did The Five Nightmares as well as Long Way Down and The Future.

And as for Madame Masque being a mentally unbalanced stalker and Ultimo being used as a weapon, I'll assume you also didn't like Kurt Busiek's Iron Man either.

Those three are considered to be the three best Iron Man writers of all time.

I guess John Byrne and Len Kaminski were the only good Iron Man writers whose work haven't been mined for stories yet. Either Dragon Seed Saga or Hands of the Mandarin it is.

I'd rather see Dragon Seed be saved for a War Machine spin-off. That storyline was more about Rhodey than Tony.

Can't see them using mandarin again any time soon. I hope they don't use someone in armour or multiple enemies.

The real Mandarin. Both the "true" Mandarin and the decoy ended the film as jokes, and it was revealed in the One Shot that the REAL guy is still alive and out there somewhere

Eh, the "real" Mandarin they described sounds further away than The Killiandarin was.

Killian at least had that spoiled rich kid who spends other people's money turning himself into a karate-chopping ubermensche vibe that defines the comic Mandarin.

The ancient immortal king sounds more like Ra's Al Ghul than the Mandarin. I find it funny that people who think the Killiandarin is a betrayal are fine with Ra's Al Ghul with the serial numbers filled off.

You're forgetting though that it was Aldrich Killian: some random scientist who previously suffered from disabilities and got pissed off when Tony forgot about their meeting on the roof of the hotel.

NOT the Mandarin

NOT the Mandarin

The comics mandarin was a mythology fanatic strategist who could karate chomp Iron Man's armors. That's precisely what Killian was.

He was closer to the Mandarin than what the complainers seem to want. Kingsley was basically playing Yellow Claw pre-reveal, not The Mandarin.
