Decades of Sexual Harassment Accusations Against Harvey Weinstein - Part 1

Ellen Page shared this on her Facebook.

Sorry but I am pretty bothered by the cheap shot at Clarence Thomas, as if a man being accused of harassment, the accuser/accusations being discredited and the accused then rising to a higher position is an injustice or part of an evil empire.

Then we'd better burn down reality too. I think Hollywood is merely a reflection of the society at large. Society at large has issues with people overstepping personal boundaries and using positions of power as a means to provide them sexual gratification.

No, as someone else stated pages ago logically Hollywood is much, much worse. The easiest time you can fire someone is when a company reorganizes. And there is effectively a reorganization every time they start a new movie or TV series. That gives so many more opportunities to fire people who say no.

here's reality for you

I served in the USN 97-2002, im 6'3 about 230

I was sexually assaulted/molested by a superior in early 2000

when I went to report it, nothing happened

after a week, I was pulled into my LTs office and told I had 2 options

transfer and keep quiet, or get discharged and sent home

I took the transfer because I was a naive 20 year old who wanted to serve his country

Oh man, sorry to hear that :( :(
Is the superior still on active duty? Didn't something happened for those 15 years or so to him?

Guys like Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington are some of the handful of big name actors that I think are scandal free.

Hanks is a down to earth normal friendly guy. The only issues I have ever heard relating to him is his black sheep son Chet Hanks.

Denzel seems professional and devoted to his wife.
So she's basically calling out Wesley Snipes.
Snipes is a known *****e so it isn't a big suprise
Damn Edwards as well :csad:

Who could do that? Richard Branson?
Richard Branson has been in the film industry with his Virgin film and Virgin Produced production companies since the early eighties.

I don't think the film business is a big focus for Branson and his Virgin group though.
Anna Paquin tweeted

Ugh. I don't even want to think about what stories she has.
I'm willing to bet at least half the kid actors in Hollywood have probably got a tale to tell. Especially those who were in the business pre-21st century when things were a lot less closely monitored.

dont know, I transferred and kind of shelved it mentally

but with everything happening recently, its important for people to know this kind of **** is pervasive and can happen to ANYONE

Hill wasn’t discredited. There were four other women who supported her claims but they were never called upon, thanks to a back room deal between republicans and the oh-so-lovable Joe Biden. In fact, the guy who wrote a book that supposedly discredited her later apologized, recanted his claims and referred to it as pure character assassination. And Hill took and passed a polygraph. Thomas didn’t.

Thomas is a scumbag. Always has been. And he’s also a horrible, incompetent judge who is pretty much the poster child of why Supreme Court Justices shouldn’t be appointed to lifetime terms.

And Eddie Berganza also (finally) got exposed.

Ms. Clinton was extremely insulting towards and dismissive of the many women who accused her husband of harassment and worse. Her hands ain't clean.

Right. But lest we forget why her husband faced impeachment. It wasn't FOR sexually harassing women. It was for LYING about it.

I swear, since this whole Weinstein affair began, it's opened up a freakin' Pandora's Box. It seems no one is safe from the words, "I accuse" - not acclaimed directors, not Oscar-winning actors, and not even politicians. It definitely has forced a lot of people to take a second look at the people with whom they're working.

But let's remember our justice system is based on "innocent until proven guilty." Words like 'accused,' 'alleged,' and 'allegedly' do not automatically mean the person is guilty - unless they openly admitted to these liaisons (like Louis C.K.) or didn't deny the allegations against them (like Kevin Spacey).

What a sad state of affairs.

No. Sorry, I've had it with these "innocent till proven guilty" proclamations. Thats for a court of law. They aren't being imprisoned. I condemn them because I believe these women.

I believe a lot of them too.

But at the end of the day a mere allegation or accusation of something like rape ruins peoples lives... even if they are eventually proven to be innocent they are tainted forever.

The tricky thing is that how can you prove these allegations either way when a lot of the time they supposedly happened years, even decades ago. There is no physical evidence, just word of mouth.

Fair enough.

I have read article after article of this sort of abuse in the military, I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk of it here. I'm sorry this happened to you as man, just as I fear for any woman who wants to serve. The victim always gets screwed. :(

I believe the ones like Weinstein and Spacey where there’s a bunch of people and this has been rumored for decades. Or the ones who admit it like CK, obviously.

My mental jury is still out on a singular he said/he said situation like Takei.

Ahh yes, the old, "what if the accusations are fake".

**** that noise.

I'm sure there have been those who were falsely accused, but when you start to get multiple accounts against the same accuser then it is far more likely to be true. :(

Or they're made president.

Why though? So every accusation ever made should be taken as truth at face value? That's insane.

I get it for known creeps who have multiple accusations like Weinstein or Sheen or Spacey.

But what if tomorrow someone came out and said I dunno, Tom Hanks did something 20 years ago? Is everyone gonna pile on him?

I think it's about time all Hollywood's dirty laundry was aired. It's a great thing. But at the same time we need to be careful and strive for the truth. Because I ain't being funny, now is the perfect time for people with grudges to come out of the woodwork as well.

I know it's unpopular but there are people that make up **** just to be vindictive or to get money or fame. It's happened before but it's not really popular to assume it happens. But it does.

All accusations should be taken seriously. Which is different than taken as gospel truth.

Exactly.

It's not hard to believe that Hollywood is full of creeps and rapists and nonce cases.

But apparently it's impossible that there are vindictive, fame hungry liars?

Get the **** outta here.

Yes, false accusations happen.

But that is a really, really screwed up place to start when you view accusations. And is partly why this has been allowed to continue in silence, because the victims were scared to speak up.

Yes. But accusations of something like rape will ruin someone's life forever, even if they are innocent. Simple as.

So no I'm not gonna just believe every single accusation and allegation that comes out. Because that would make me an idiot.

At the same time I will keep an open mind.

Ahh, the attitude of Brock Turner's judge.
