I was always a little surprised he was even hired in the first place just based on the small amount of work I had seen of him. And then you see the type of jokes that are said in his GOTG films. It was interesting to see how much it was embraced among parents allowing their kids to see it.It's odd that all of these jokes predate him getting the GOTG franchise but are only now getting him fired. That's just poor due diligence by Disney/Marvel to not know he had these things in his past.
I learned about his parody hot list of comic book characters, and that got me looking at him funny. It was after GotG that I saw it I believe. But I do thing there is a world of difference between being crass and tasteless and what these tweets show. Especially when you work for Disney. That's an interesting part about this considering the often mean-spirited dialogue in the GotG movies and certain jokes (Jackson Pollock painting, etc) - people were fine with crass and tasteless then, so they should've assumed he said pretty tasteless things in general.
Like everything else though I guess edginess and shock value have a natural limit.
I've read a lot of people saying it shouldn't be such a big deal because he tweeted them 10 years ago. A whole lot of them were about rape and pedophilia....do you think someone who was raped as a child is saying "It's ok he made fun of raping kids....because it was done 10 years ago."

40 is the new 20. As a 40 year old I can attest.
No way to know. A lot of victims of X are okay with jokes about X.
In my experience a lot of victims (and I mean personally) of X are okay with jokes about Y. Most people affected by something serious don't find jokes at that things expense funny, but will laugh at things about other serious matters they haven't been touched by.
It's human nature, you care about the stuff that's relevant to you often times.

Yeah I can agree with that. I've just experienced some cases where being bothered about those jokes is seen as a weakness, of that particular event still holding you down later in life. Everyone approaches it differently, there is no right or wrong there.
Its Disney. They don't play.Well Gunn got fired fast.

Here's a comment from birthmoviesdeath that sums it up for me:
"James Gunn made off-color jokes a decade ago" is the least surprising thing in the world. That it was only brought up now by the likes of Mike "Pizzagate" ****in' Cernovich - someone whose words have been demonstrably harmful - shows that this was a calculated, cynical takedown. I realize Disney's position is difficult, but it still pisses me off.
