I wonder if we get a Malekith like villain for Aquaman 2 and Orm more or less becomes like Loki in the sense that Orm is in prison in Atlantis but Arthur ends up getting his brother out

Takes 3 years+ to make a CGI effect heavy blockbuster like AM, and Wan needs a break+producing The Trench and Conjuring films+directing a small project before heading back to Atlantis.

wonder woman sequel filming started a year after the release of the first one, it will reach theaters after three years from the first. 3 not 4. Suicide squad 2 took the only available slot for aquaman 2 in 2021

Aquaman's success surprised most of all WB/dc, they didn't expect such success, caught them totally unprepared. Just take a look at the comics and anything related to the character, total mess, declining sales, last minute merchandise scrambled.
Besides fans want Aquaman not the trench which will be horror movie with no arthur or mera.

The combined awesomness of Kidman and Farmiga would kill me....and I'd welcome that death <3

They need some time to write the story and develop a script based on that story, after the first draft, they will need to revise it and fine tune it again so a second draft, maybe a third draft too, then some more time to polish the dialogue, all this takes time (ask Matt Reeves)

So, if Wan starts shooting in late 2020 and continues to shoots the movie till mid 2021,they will need some time to complete the CGI effects, edit and score the movie and do test screenings, so Dec 2022 gives them reasonable amount of time.

I don't see another way, it's not like Orm is gonna break out and team up with anyone, he seemed very open to talk to Arthur in the end and he will not hurt his mother and she obviously wants them to get along

But Loki is a trickster and I'm sure Orm is too

There is another option, Manta kills Tom Curry and Atlanna, Orm and Arthur will join forces to get revenge, maybe Orm realizes that he gave Manta the weapons that have caused his mothers death, at the end he would sacrifice himself to save Arthur and therefore redeeming himself.
