Rotten Tomatoes Revamps Movie Audience Scores

I still don't get why people put too much stock on audience scores on RT, it's no different from IMDB.

I don't get it either.

Even though I don't personally care what the score says, at least they're trying to block trolls from voting on movies they already hate despite not having seen the damn thing.

You know what my audience score is? The box office. Cold, hard numbers that can't be spammed.

I don't tbh, but this saves us the trouble of seeing people who review bomb a movie saying "see?! it got a 30% on RT" when in fact that isnt true because its referring to the audience RT score which isnt the actual RT score to begin with.

Yeah I’m sure this will solve the problem......

Seriously, I am baffled how people have forgotten that the best way to fight the trolls is to simply ignore them.

Actually the best way is to not give them a voice. RT is a review aggregate site for paid critics, it doesn't even need an audience score, which I suspect will eventually be gone.

According to that logic, Transformers 3 and 4 are some of the most beloved movies ever. And minions.

The problem isn't their voice, the problem are the people who can't help themselves and feel the need to yell back to them, which does nothing but elevate said voice.

Exactly. And yet for some reason, people need to use IMDB and the RT audience score in arguments like they are legit.

IMDB has been a cluster **** for years when it comes to audience score.

Yeah, see that's just not true. We are actually watching this happen right now with De-platforming on social media. Taking away the like of Jones and Milo platform have seen them disappear from the discourse.

In this case the 'people' yelling back is RT, who likely have an interest in protecting their brand and not becoming a hive for trolls who have an agenda for things other then simply reviewing a film. From where I sit, those losers have cut off their nose to spite their ugly faces. We're in the Endgame now, soon the audience score will vanish in a snap.

And that does nothing but breads more hostility. More hostility means more anger and division. De-platforming is a terrible idea in the long term and will come back to bight people in the arse. The more you silence people, the more you create resentment. This is why it's better to let people scream their nonsense and ignore them.

RT can try and do this all they want, all it's going to do is drive regular people away who don't want to have to prove they've seen a movie in order to review it. It's a self inflicted wound that solves nothing.

That's the point isn't it? The option is there, they are just eliminating the cheap drive-bys. And if people are desperate enough to try and find loopholes so they can troll, well then that gives RT the ultimate justification for what I'm sure they'd love to do right now, eliminate the rating completely. They aren't stupid, they know their audience scores reputation is tracking towards IMDB city. That stench will eventually stick to the site as a whole if they don't take action.

You also make it sound like it's a multitude of people who will get angry. It's just a small segment of a much larger pie that is disrupting their site. But that's all it takes.

It breeds more hostility to remove toxic, bigoted behavior? Guess that worked out for Germany. :o

You see a bunch of angry trolls dictating policy is definitely the best course of action.

Tell me, which of the movies that were 'review bombed' stayed rotten? I can tell you - none of them. All of them recovered when actual audiences who watched the movies saw it. Wonder Woman, Black Panther, etc, even Solo which was crapped on from day one has a decent audience score that sits fresh. The point being in all of this - the allowance of all voices ultimately lead to the genuine score to emerge. In other words, those trolls who have nothing better to do than ***** and moan and were small in number, made absolutely no difference to the outcome of what the audience score was of the films they targeted.

I'd like to think you're smarter than that.
On what planet is it a good idea for private companies to just allow the echo chamber of bigotry? History shows us what actually breeds something worse is giving it a platform, letting it grown.

Also you have a general hypocrisy on these discussions. You talk about how companies and artist should be free to do what they want and if someone wants to do something differently, then they should. But then when a company or artist does just that, you get mad about it. What the hell? :funny:

Now in order to review bomb, you'll have to show your ticket. Seems fair to me. Waste time seeing the film (in theory) before you waste it on RT.
