BATMAN (1989): LIMITED EDITION: 2 CD-SET (Expanded Archival Collection)

Just got this at a convention for only $25.00 without having to pay shipping online and it is quite interesting to hear alternate takes on the main theme of which I didn't know by reading the linear notes that the original soundtrack album was actually a mixed score of the music.

If you're a completist then go ahead buy it or just stick to the original soundtrack.

Seeing that he's wearing the BR suit it's too bad he just missed the recently "sold out" BR expanded cd. Oh well both scores he's holding in his hands are still great none the less and better than the Nolan batman filmscores that's for sure. I wonder if he got the reissue of B:TAS: V1 and the upcoming Volume 2?

I wish I could get rips of both 89 and BR's expanded scores :(

This post is for those that have yet to purchase this expanded cd but still want to.

A little over a month after BR sold out. Now it looks like B89 will sell out also pretty soon at LLLR.

Found this post on the Film Score Monthly forums:

Updates!

BATMAN 1989 (2-CD SET) Less than 100 units remain
THE X-FILES (4-CD BOX SET) Less than 60 units remain
Once they are gone, they are sold out and gone for good!

This information found in the newsletter sent out announcing today's titles.

Both of these titles are gems - you do not want to miss them.

So if you've procrastinated on getting this now's not the time to wait.

This was posted on the FSM forums about six or so hours ago.

All autographed copies are now sold out. I will have the exact time and order number range later this afternoon. I can tell you this -- they all went withion the first 15 minutes.

Now I am off to start processing so we can start shipping these off

MV

PS Batman 1989 and X files are just about SOLD OUT!

So those that don't have it yet, but want it, better order it now.

Listening to this right now. Now this is "epic", "amazing". "impressive" "powerful", "chilling", "gripping" and pretty much all the nonsense people say about Zimmer's Batman scores on TDKR boards. This score was everything Zimmer's TDKR score wasn't at least in the movie. I have yet to pick up the album. An exciting day that'll be I'm sure.:whatever:

Some insight about The Danny Elfman Batman Collection:Batman/Batman Returns:Limited Edition (4-CD Set). Mainly pertaining to B89...

Neil S. Bulk said:
The original plan was to do straight reissues of both scores in one set with new artwork in time for the 75th anniversary of the character and the 25th anniversary of the first movie. My understanding is that these were at the top of the list of requests for La-La Land to reissue. When I was told this was happening, I explained that since our last album had come out (and sold out) I had found better sounding material. I thought this would be a great opportunity to revisit this score. There was quite a bit of back and forth on it but ultimately the decision was made to re-master Batman with the new source. The sonic upgrade is not subtle. I hope everyone enjoys it.

Neil

He also pointed out that "Batwing I" will have it's proper ending (which was also featured on the Elfman/Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box) and no longer have that fade out that was present on the last reissue.

Even though the artwork and packaging on both seems like an improvement. And the remastered sound/sonic upgrade of B89 has me intrigued. However I've already triple dipped on both titles. I'll probably pick it up based on the customer feedback and if LLLR does another discount sale in the future. But this release is fantastic for those who missed out on both.

And looks like they weren't able to correct the track title for disc 2 track 24 ("Joker's Muzak" (unused)), which is actually called "The Truth", of B89 b/c they couldn't alter the playlist.

Some insight about the track title confusion courtesy of Batman-Online and (once again) Neil S. Bulk.

Batman-Online said:
So, where did the name "Joker's Muzak" come from then? La-La Land Records producer Neil S Bulk clears up the mystery:

"When we were producing the La-La Land album, we didn't have access to the printed score. We did have very crude dot matrix printed spotting notes from 1989, that weren't the most detailed.

The Batman spotting notes gave a description of a scene and a running time. For "The Truth" the spotting notes indicated 10 seconds followed by "Joker's Muzak" which was closer to the running time of the cue we had so we went with the info available.

Since no music appears in reel 10 until the Percy Faith recording of "Beautiful Dreamer" it was another reason why we thought this cue would be "Joker's Muzak". This wasn't done haphazardly. It was an educated guess made with all of the facts available at the time."

Batman-Online even mixed "The Truth" with the scene it was written for back in September.
