They did. Thing was, they didn't want their gamers to be forced into a format war. If Blu-Ray wins, MS can get a Blu-Ray expansion. If Blu-Ray loses, Sony can't take the Blu-Ray out of the PS3, and it becomes a $500 waste.

Like I said, I was glad they didn't choose to put a HD-DVD drive or Blu-Ray Drive since Nintendo wasn't doing it and we (still) aren't quite sure who will win the format war - better to have a stable format than an unsure one.
