Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian (Franco, Crowe, Sheridan, D'onfrio)

Considering that freaking Sir Ridley Scott tried for years to get this movie made, but failed because it was considered to be "unfilmmable" given the subject matter, I'll be impressed if this ends up happening with Franco.

Now Twitter is saying it's shelved because Franco never got the book rights.

Whats the subject matter?

And you never really find out if said man is human or what.

No one should make this. Read the book.

This will not get made. And if it does it probably won't be worth watching. I'm a believer that any book can be made into a quality film, but there are some so difficult to do that unless the exact right team is behind it it's basically not worth it. James Franco is not that person. It's a decent cast, though. The Judge would be a truly absurd character to realize on screen but D'Onofrio might be able to pull it off.
