Gina Rodriguez Joins "Deepwater Horizon"

By Garth Franklin Wednesday March 18th 2015 10:14PM
Gina Rodriguez ("Jane the Virgin") is in talks to star alongside Mark Wahlberg in "Deepwater Horizon" for Lionsgate reports The Wrap.
The true story tale deals with the 2010 BP oil rig explosion that killed eleven crew members and resulted in the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history. Wahlberg plays Mike Williams, an electrician on the rig.
Rodriguez will play the female lead, Andrea Fleytas, who was overseeing the oil rig's navigation machinery when she noticed that no one had issued a distress signal. After she tried to contact the Coast Guard, she was reprimanded for her actions.
Rodriguez reportedly beat out Kristen Stewart for the coveted role in the film which Peter Berg is directing from a screenplay by Matthew Michael Carnahan. The film is expected to go into production relatively soon to meet its September 2016 release date.

Russell, O'Brien Wanted For "Deepwater"

By Garth Franklin Friday April 10th 2015 05:18PM
Kurt Russell ("Furious 7," "Tango and Cash") and Dylan O'Brien ("Teen Wolf," "The Maze Runner") are in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and Gina Rodriguez in Peter Berg's "Deepwater Horizon" at Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment.
The story deals with the 2010 BP oil-rig explosion in the Gulf Of Mexico that killed eleven people and gushed oil into the water for almost three months.
No word on Russell's role, but O'Brien will play the rig's youngest crewman Caleb Holloway who survives but is devastated to have lost a majority of his crew.
Berg helms from a script by Matthew Michael Carnahan. The film is currently slated for a September 2016 release.

Kate Hudson, Kurt Russell, and John Malkovich have joined the BP Oil Spill project Deepwater Horizon for Summit Entertainment and Participant Media. Hudson will play the wife of the oil rig engineer (Mark Wahlberg). This also marks the first time that Hudson and her adopted dad Russell have starred in a feature together. Hudson’s father is Bill Hudson.

Gina Rodriguez and Dylan O’Brien co-star in the film which is being directed by Wahlberg’s Lone Survivor helmer Peter Berg (who replaced JC Chandor earlier this year). It’s produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and David Womark from a script by Matthew Carnahan.
The story is based on the New York Times article “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour,” which highlights the courage of those who worked on the oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico when it blew up in April 2010, killing 11 and injuring 16 others. It was one of the biggest man-made disasters in history.

I just want a scene where Mark Wahlberg punches out the oil spill.

Just got back from seeing this. Great movie and one of my favorites of the year. Nothing is dumbed down, the effects are great, the sound design is great, the acting is great. Must see.

Agreed on all accounts. I wasn't expecting it to be as amazing as it was. Easily one of the best films of the year so far.

I agree, it was awesome. Just a real visceral, emotional ride. Those BP employees are real scumbags
