Bobby Cannavale In Talks To Star In HBO Rock ‘N’ Roll Series From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger & Terence Winter
By NELLIE ANDREEVA AND MIKE FLEMING JR

Boardwalk Empire executive producers Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter are recruiting the series’ Season 3 star Bobby Cannavale for their next project at HBO. Emmy winner Cannavale is in negotiations to star in an untitled Rock ‘n’ Roll series, which Scorsese and Winter created with Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger. The project, which has been in the works at HBO since 2010, has not been greenlighted yet but we’ve learned that it is gearing up for an early 2014 shoot with Scorsese directing the pilot that was written by Winter. Scorsese also helmed the pilot for Boardwalk Empire, which too was penned by Winter. Scorsese has already worked it into his busy schedule, so go ahead and dress for this one.

The untitled Rock ‘n’ Roll Project follows the exploits of Richie (Cannavale), a cocaine-fueled record exec in NYC circa 1977, when punk, disco and a new form of music called hip-hop collided. Richie is a talented A&R guy who is elevated to run a big label, even though he thinks he’s better suited to focusing on day-to-day music matters. Scorsese and Jagger, who worked together on the superb Rolling Stones documentary Shine A Light, began this project as a feature after Jagger told Scorsese they ought to make a movie like Casino in the world of the music biz. They set it at Paramount, which is involved in the series. Scorsese, Jagger, Winter, Jagged Films’ Victoria Pearman, Sikelia president Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Rick Yorn are the exec producers. Since Winter continues to run Boardwalk Empire, the producers are looking to staff up writers for the new show.

Scorsese is completing post production on the Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer The Wolf Of Wall Street, which will be released November 15, as he preps the HBO pilot. And then he will direct Silence, his long awaited adaptation of the Shusaku Endo novel that has The Amazing Spider-Man’s Andrew Garfield starring. Scorsese is repped by WME and Yorn; Winter, Jagger and Pearman are repped by CAA; Cannavale, currently starring on Broadway in Clifford Odets’ The Big Knife, is repped by ICM Partners and managed by Frameworks’ Peg Donegan.
I'd be interested to see this. I wonder if the general world it takes place in lends it to being a bit more humorous and loose than Boardwalk Empire.

George Mastras Inks HBO Overall Deal, In Talks To Run Martin Scorsese-Mick Jagger- Terence Winter’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Drama
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Following the end of AMC’s Breaking Bad, the series’ co-executive producer George Mastras is heading to HBO with a two-year overall deal. Under the pact, I’ve learned that he is in discussions to join the pay cable network’s long-gestating rock ‘n’ roll drama, from Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter, as new showrunner. The position just became vacant following the exit of Brian Koppelman and David Levien. According to HBO, Mastras is in talks on a number of HBO projects, including the rock ‘n’ roll drama. CAA-repped Mastras was on Breaking Bad for the series’ entire five-season run, rising to co-executive producer. He wrote one of the acclaimed series’ final episodes, To’hajiilee, and shared in the show’s Best Drama Series Emmy last month where he also was nominated for writing last year’s Dead Freight episode.
This guy did great work on BB. They have my attention if they can get him.

Olivia Wilde To Co-Star In HBO Rock ‘N’ Roll Drama From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger & Terence Winter
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

HBO is building a killer cast for its untitled Rock ‘n’ Roll drama, created by Boardwalk Empire‘s Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter and Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger. Olivia Wilde is set to co-star opposite Bobby Cannavale in the project, which has been in the works at HBO since 2010. It still doesn’t have a formal green light but the horlong pilot is gearing toward production in early summer 2014 with Scorsese directing, just as he did with the pilot for Boardwalk Empire, earning an Emmy for his work. Co-written by Winter and George Mastras, who joined as showrunner in October, replacing original showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the untitled drama is set in 1970’s New York and explores the drug and sex fueled music business as punk and disco were breaking out, all through the eyes of record executive Richie Finestra (Cannavale) who is trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound. Richie is undergoing a crisis of character when confronted with a life-altering decision. Wilde will play Richie’s wife Devon Finestra, a former actress/model who lived a Bohemian life in 1960s New York. Richie’s crisis causes strain on their family and propels her to re-immerse in her former lifestyle. This marks a return to series television for Wilde, who rose to stardom on Fox’s House. She has since been busy in features, most recently appearing and in Ron Howard’s Rush and Spike Jonze’s Her. She will next be seen in Medowland. The pilot is executive produced by Scorsese, Jagger, Winter, Mastras, Victoria Pearman, Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Rick Yorn.
Well hey.

So it's official that Mastras's the new showrunner, that's great.

Olivia Wilde, you say?

By NELLIE ANDREEVA

June Temple has been cast in HBO’s untitled Rock ’n’ Roll drama pilot, from executive producers Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, George Mastras and Terence Winter. The pilot is gearing toward production in early summer 2014 with Scorsese directing. Co-written by Winter and Mastras, who joined as showrunner in October, the untitled drama is set in 1970s New York and explores the drug- and sex-fueled music business as punk and disco were breaking out, all through the eyes of record executive Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale) who is trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound. She uses her keen abilities to manipulate people and blend into the various subcultures of the New York music underground, in order to break through the glass ceiling and get ahead. Hahahaha June Temple. Typos in press releases are funny

I had no idea this was happening until today. This is now my most anticipated upcoming series. I hope it airs by next summer.

Ray Romano To Co-Star In HBO’s Rock ’N’ Roll Drama Pilot
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Ray Romano has joined the cast of HBO‘s untitled Rock ’n’ Roll drama pilot, from executive producers Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, George Mastras and Terence Winter. The pilot is eyeing a production start in early summer with Scorsese directing. Co-written by Winter and showrunner Mastras, the untitled drama is set in 1970s New York and explores the drug- and sex-fueled music business as punk and disco were breaking out, all through the eyes of record executive Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale), who is trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound. Romano will play Richie’s close confidante and right hand man Zak Yankovich, the tough and sharp-witted Head of Promotions of American Century with years of experience dating back to the shady, mob-infested days of the recording business. The cast also includes Olivia Wilde and Juno Temple. Victoria Pearman, Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Rick Yorn also executive produce. After starting his career as a standup comedian and rising to fame as the star of hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, Romano has taken a more dramatic turn with his acting choices. He co-created and toplined TNT’s dramedy Men Of A Certain Age and has been recurring on Parenthood. He is expected to continue on the NBC drama if it returns next season, possibly for a limited final installment. Repped by ICM Partners, Conversation Co. and Jon Moonves.
He's been doing good work on Parenthood lately. I approve.

I need this to be picked up already. Westworld too.

I work in SOHO, near Little Italy and this show is constantly filming around my building and the surrounding neighborhood.

Just showed this to my pops, he seems pretty excited about it now. I ****ing love these period dramas that keep coming out especially something like this. We've never seen into that time and this world like we will with this. This will be great

I've been salivating over this for a while now. I'm guessing it'll air either in the summer (to replace True Blood) or fall (to replace Boardwalk Empire). More likely the latter.

Kind of surprised there was nothing for this in HBO's year-end promo.
