Ubisoft announced Star Trek: Bridge Crew, a new game for virtual reality platforms, during its E3 2016 press conference.




The game promises to offer a “true-to-life level of immersion” in the Star Trek universe, where as officers of the Federation, “every action and decision” made by players together will determine the fate of your ship and crew.

Overview
Star Trek: Bridge Crew puts you and your friends in the heart of a starship, where- as officers of the Federation- every action and decision you make together will determine the fate of your ship and crew. Developed specifically for VR, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is the only game to offer a true-to-life level of immersion in the Star Trek universe.
In Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the Federation dispatches you and your crew to command the new vessel U.S.S. Aegis as part of a critical initiative. Your mission: explore a largely uncharted sector of space known as The Trench, in hopes of locating a suitable new home world for the decimated Vulcan populace. The Trench contains stunning beauty and undiscovered wonders, but also strange anomalies and dangers yet unknown. The Klingon Empire is also active in the region, and their purpose is undoubtedly a threat to the Federation’s plans. It’s up to you and your crew to chart the sector to determine the Klingons’ aims, and to secure a peaceful Federation presence.

Operate as a Crew
Make strategic decisions and coordinate actions with your crew to complete the mission. In co-op, players can form a crew of four to serve in the roles of Captain, Helm, Tactical and Engineer. Each is crucial to the success of the varied missions you face and the safety of your crew and ship.
A Unique Ship for a Unique Mission
Take command of the U.S.S. Aegis, the first ship of her kind. Whether plotting courses and analyzing scan data or hacking enemy shields and targeting vulnerable ship subsystems, you’ll have Starfleet’s cuttingedge technology at your fingertips. The Aegis’ unique design makes her ideal for the dangerous mission in The Trench, but you’ll have to master her systems, both familiar and experimental, to save the day.

Ubisoft has announced release dates for virtual reality titles Eagle Flight, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, and Werewolves Within, as well as a free virtual reality patch for the PlayStation 4 version of Trackmania Turbo.

Eagle Flight, developed by FunHouse, a division of Ubisoft Montreal, sends players to the skies of Paris where as an eagle they will soar over the historic city and its iconic landmarks. Playable in single player and in the heart-pumping multiplayer “Capture the Prey” mode, players will feel the true sensation and exhilaration of flight.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew

Werewolves Within

• All Major VR Platforms – December 6

Players will be transported to the medieval village of Gallowston in Werewolves Within, a game of social deduction that brings the competitive fun of game night with friends to virtual reality. Developed by Red Storm Entertainment, a Ubisoft Studio, uncover the werewolves that have been terrorizing the townsfolk through fast-paced games with five to eight players. No two games are the same–one round you could be a villager, pleading your case for innocence, and the next round you could be a werewolf, lying your way to a win.
Trackmania Turbo VR Patch

• PlayStation VR – November 8

Virtual reality will also be introduced into the arcade-racing universe of TrackMania Turbo. Thanks to a free patch, players will be able to enjoy the game on PlayStation VR beginning November 8.

Four month delay for the virtual reality Star Trek.

Ubisoft has delayed Star Trek: Bridge Crew from its previously planned November 29 launch across PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive to March 14, 2017.




“In order to deliver the best game experience possible at launch, we have decided to push the release of Star Trek: Bridge Crew to March 14, 2017,” Ubisoft said in a blog post. “Star Trek: Bridge Crew is designed exclusively for VR and we want to offer a compelling and engaging experience. Command of the USS Aegis is right around the corner!”

Star Trek virtual reality game delayed another two months.

Ubisoft has delayed Star Trek: Bridge Crew from its previously planned March 14 release to May 30.


The company also confirmed that in addition to the U.S.S. Aegis, a ship created just for the game, players will also have the option to serve as a solo captain or officer in a crew of up to four players on the U.S.S. Enterprise, the ship from Star Trek: The Original Series.


Star Trek: Bridge Crew will be available for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew

Ubisoft's Star Trek: Bridge Crew won't just put you in a VR starship when it finally launches. It'll also give you the power to interact with the virtual Starfleet crew with your voice. The company has teamed up with IBM to add Watson's interactive speech capabilities to the game, so you can tell a crew member to launch a missile -- and maybe even pompously add "make it so" in the end -- instead of using manual controls. Bridge Crew was supposed to launch last year but was plagued with numerous delays. It's now scheduled to come out on May 30th for the PC and PS4, with Watson's voice commands to follow later this summer during a Beta period.




Ubisoft's senior creative director David Votypka Sr. says:

"We have been eager to find the right way to use interactive speech further the immersive and interactive experiences that virtual reality offers. Watson gives Captains in Star Trek: Bridge Crew the ability to issue commands to non-player crew members in the same way they do with a human crew; by using their voice. IBM provides an easy to integrate solution that is cloud based, so it's light on code and performance while letting us remain fast on feature turnaround."

While you'll have to wait a few more weeks after the game launches to access voice control, developers can access the feature right now. They can also take advantage of the "VR Speech Sandbox" IBM uploaded to Github, which contains Watson's Unity SDK, Speech to Text and Conversation. It can help them build VR user interfaces with voice interaction and could lead to even more immersive VR games in the future.
