The film opens in England, in 1841. Dr.Nathaniel Essex has been accused of human testing. But before they can confront him, Dr.Essex manages to escape into the night after burning down his lab. In the near future "After X-Men The Last Stand", Mutant Research Specialist Dr.Herbert Edgar Wyndham (Gary Oldman) was one of the many scientists who worked on The Cure, who had survived the events of M-Day. It is learned that the remaining Viles of "The Cure" had mutated and become a very powerful virus that could wipe out the mutant race, His company "Evolutionary.Industry" sends the Vile's to be destroyed by Essex.Corp, and the Maurders (Essex.Corp's own personal army) is tasked with delivering the Vile's of tainted cure. Gambit (Taylor Kitsch) and Morph (Tony Hale) are delivering the Vile's when they are ambushed by the Vertigo (Sienna Miller), who Gambit recognized to be his ex-fiancee Bella-Donna. Gambit and Morph are rescued by Shadow Cat (Ellen Page), Angel (Ben Foster) and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore). They take the Vile's to X-Mansion, The X-Men's underground command center in Westchester, and upon arriving rendezvous with Storm (Halle Berry), the head of the X-Men Team. Storm takes command of the Vile's as Beast over looks them, and excuses Gambit and Morph, only to be convinced to have them join his group after Gambit reveals that he knows Vertigo.
Dr.Wyndham is revealed to be using the same viral technology to change the whole world into mutants with the aid of the Doctor (Robert Knepper), planning on using the Vile's to bring panic and bring about a new world order. Using a tracking device, Dr.Wyndham locates the X-Men base and sends Harpoon (Vin Diesel) and Vertigo to retrieve the warheads with assistance from Blockbuster (Arnold Vosloo), inflicting casualties on several X-Men. After a fight, Harpoon and Vertigo retrieve the Viles and take them to Scrambler, a technologist, for him to activate and use them to spread the virus upon the mutants to serve as a showing of the're power. Making their way to morlock tunnels, the X-Men pursue them through the streets but are unsuccessful in stopping them from realising the vile. Gambit manages to stop the virus by destroying it, but in doing so he is captured and taken to Dr.Wyndham base under the Wondergor.
X-Men locates the secret base and fly there as Dr.Wyndham loads three vile's ready to be released in key locations. After Angel takes out one, Morph pursues the remaining missiles in a prototype new blackbird x-men Jet while Shadow Cat, Beast and Angel infiltrate the base. While Shadow Cat and Angel attempt to shut down the Dr.Wyndham's base, with Iceman leading an attack on rest of the maurders, Gambit learns that the Doctor is Nathaniel Essex, the guy who saved his life many years ago who hasnt aged but believed to have been killed on a mission led by Gambit four years ago. He managed to survive when he took one of his experimental drinks that extends his life span, making him immortal. Vertigo after suffering a lapse of conciousness tries to free Gambit but Doctor Essex reveals he has implanted her with nano-mites which has put her under his control for the past four years, admitting his amazement that she is resisting the programming. Attempting to kill Gambit, Dr.Wyndham ends up being facially burned as he flees with Dr.Essex to an escape vessel. Gambit and Vertigo pursue him while the X-Men fall back when Dr.Essex actiVileed the base's self destruct sequence.
Dr.Essex then heals Dr.Wyndham's burned face with nano-mites, and gives him a new evolution suit christens Dr.Wyndham as "The High Evolutionary" and Dr.Essex assumes the identity of Mr.Sinister before they are captured by the X-Men soon after. On board the supercarrier USS Flagg, Vertigo now reverted back as Bella Donna is placed in protective custody until they can remove the nano-mites from her body. Meanwhile, Harpoon, having been earlier operated on by Dr.Essex, infiltrates the x-men's mansion and attacks angel making him lose his wings but Harpoon is killed when confronted by the rest of the x-men.

Yeah....no.

That title alone makes me feel sad inside, i hate these new born fanboys of trash action like the Transformers and GI Joe, coming away and thinkings THATs how you make a good film. So sad.

Im not a new born fanboy

I dont normally agree with trash action like you put it which we saw with Transformers. And again with GI Joe, but to be honest i see Star Wars as that trash action you talk about... lots of fighting little story...

Now im not overly a fan of the GIJOE series... i mean i grew up with the cartoon havent read the comics but what i got from GIJOE the movie i found the structure apart for having parts missing could of been potentially greate, but the premises of the movie would be a good ploy for x-men, im not saying x-men has to be trash action, im just commenting on the story gijoe had if characters replaced would make a great x-men movie.

I always thought GI Joe and X-MEN had some similarities...maybe it was just the "In the not too distant future..." thing and a skilled team with black uniforms. Stephen Sommers (SP?) might make a good X-film...maybe.

Geeze, harshness, I think it could've potentially worked as a plot, (I would've rather watched that than X3) darn...

funny, when Scarlet debuted in the first action scene I almost swore it was Jean Grey from X1
