Here's an interview with Bryan Hastings, Chief Creative Officer at Insomniac listing the 10 reasons why PS3 will eventually be the winner of this console generation;

While I liked Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank games and think he make some interesting points, I don't think PS3 will win this console war.

he does make some interesting points and that was well written, but I dont agree with all his reasoning. Nice read though

Couldn't open it, can someone just post the interview?

UK Sales of PS3 drop 82%.

I wonder how long these guys are going to continue to make fools of themselves.

who cares, it's already the fatest selling console in history over there. and it's been out for less than a month. of course things are going to slow down a bit. once the price drops and the big games start to come out (metal gear, god of war 3, kingdom hearts x, final fantasy) this thing will fly off of the shelves. i remember back in the day when xbox first came out and everyone said that ps2 was a gonner. lol now look at things. the playstation brand is just too big of a name these days. the only reason a lot of my friends don't have one right now is because of the price and because they're waiting for those big games. but a price drop is inevitable and when it happens these things will sell like hotcakes.

and in a few years when the xbox 360 maxes out we'll finally start to see the technical gap between the two and just how supierior ps3 actually is. by that time development for the thing should be a lot easier because they should have cracked the hardware by then. much like with the ps2. and who doesn't want to develop for supieror system?

that was a GREAT article btw, thank you for posting that. people should really read this, who could argue with it? most of it, if not all of it, is fact.

I actually can argue with most of these points;

1. Home & Little Big Planet
I won't disagree that Little Big Planet is cool, has some very interesting concepts and could open up a lot opportunities for future games. Home, on the other hand, seems more like a gimmick than the next big thing, walking around a virtual world on my video game console doesn't interest me, playing games does that's why I buy these, to play game. If I want to talk to someone via a console, I'll do it in between matches or send them a message, but chances are I'm not gonna just chat with you via a console.

2. Free Online
Free is nice, but $50/year isn't bad. Plus Sony will recoup their costs online with Home through advertising and downloadable products. Like I said though $50/year doesn't even register when Cable costs more than that a month.

3. 50 GB games, aka Blu-Ray Storage
Elder Scrolls Oblivion looks great and has over 200 hours of gameplay, case closed.

4. Casino Royale, aka Blu-Ray movies are the next big thing
I don't think HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will be the next format, I doubt it, downloading online or through cable's on-demand will be the next dominate format. I've said it from the beginning the general public isn't ready for a new format, I see both going the way of Beta-Max and Laserdisc.

5. HDMI
I'm going to skip this because I really don't understand it, my 360 looks and sounds great in HD. Plus, Xbox Elite comes packaged with HDMI cables.

6. Standard HDD
There were two points here
1. A hard drive allows for faster load times. PS2 consistently had the longest load times, but was still the number 1 system.
2. Bigger downloadable games because you can buy bigger third party hard drives. I'm sure if Microsoft starts releasing these huge downloadable games they'll release bigger hard drives. Hell Xbox Elite will have a 120GB hard drive that I'm sure will be on sale seperately shortly afterward.

7. The Wii Fad Will Fade
The Wii isn't a Fad, he mentions Tickle-Me Elmo and Furbies, both those cost $20-$30 (admittly more if you bought on eBay). A Wii's base price is $250, you don't spend that much on a fad. He mentions immersive experience that's what Wii is at it's core. Then mentions the graphical advantage of 360 and PS3, but PS2 was lowest in graphics, but highest in sales.

8. PS3 Has a Major CPU Advantage
PS2 once again, lowest in tech specs highest in sales.

9. PS2 still outselling 360
He makes a good point with first party franchises, but there's a lot of third party franchises on PS2 that will also be available on the 360, which will most likely always be cheaper.

10. Something For Everyone
I believe Wii has this area covered as well

Just to nitpick, I always love when this one comes up. I'm not referring directly to you, just the article and the points brought up.. but seriously. The PS2 is still outselling the PS3 as well, no matter that the Xbox 360 is also still outselling the PS3. Everytime I see this argument raised it really gets a good laugh out of me. How far does anyone have to have their head stuck up their ass to not see the fact that the Xbox 360 is beating the PS3 which is being beaten by the PS2. :whatever:

I honestly can't see Sony coming #1 this time around but that's okay for me. I mean, the X-box owned but that wasn't number 1, and PS3 is too much of a big name ever to fall into as bad as the Gamecube got, especially considering the cross-console titles it'll share.

Some of those reasons are pure crap. Home and LittleBigPlanet? LBP is ONE game, its not going to save this console from the brinks of death. Similary, why spend time on Home when you could be out there actually making real friends?

the reasoning is week but based on what the guy in the article is saying, the people buying a PS2 arent buying either a PS3 or a 360 right now but when they do, the PS3 will have been out for longer and will be on a more even level than the 360 as far as having the right software out and ironing out some of its issues and they may be more persuaded into getting a PS3 then as opposed to if they were going to go to a store right now. I understand what he's saying and it makes sense to a small degree but like I said its weak and shouldnt have been listed

how is it weak? i would say your reasoning is weaker than his is.

Why do people need HD-DVD or Blu-ray to play a ****ING VIDEO GAME?

What is so wrong with Microsoft giving their customers a choice to get an HD-DVD player?

If the PS3 beats the 360, why the hell should I care? I play games. I don't support companies. The only people who actually care about a system beating another system are the employees and share-holders of those companies. The customer doesn't give one damn about it.

Save your support for a sports team. Don't be a company ****e. The only thing the companies care about you is your money.

well what is most important is that you're happy with your system. but that's not what this topic is about. and if you actually read the article you would know why hd dvd and blue ray are so important.

my reasoning is weaker than his? If you read my post, I didnt add any reasoning of my own. I just explained what his was

exactly, so how can you say his is weak if you don't even have a proposition.
do you really think one of the reasons the PS3 will win this console generation is bc the PS2 is currently outselling the 360? Come on, how can anyone not see that as a weak point. I can understand where the original writer is getting at, but I think listing that point is reaching for straws

One thing I don't like about the PS3 is that they are completely relying on the success of another product to sell their console as proven in his argument. I think thats a bad move personally.
Also, that guy is wrong by thinking the Wii is sonys biggest competitor. Its not meant to be next gen, just innovative. The Ps3s success will not determine the Wiis and vice versa. You can put money on it. PS3's real competitors are the 360 and HD. Period.

Also, his fad reference on the Wii wasn't a good one. A gaming console doesn't get uninteresting as fast as toys. Why? Game systems are updated with games, games, and more games. The better the games, the longer the "fad" will last. Toys do not get updates. They revolve completely around your imagination or are used for display. And alot of people don't have good imaginations. So you know what? They indulge in someone elses imagination. Play video games, watch tv, go to the movies, ect. And even watching the same movie will getting boring after 3 times. While playing a video game is active, responsive, and time consuming. Again, bad example.

Alright.

...reads article...

Home and Little Big Planet - I only do single player. I don't consider myself a part of any "online community". As for Little Big Planet, I've never had an interest in creating my own levels and/or game. If others are, fine.

Free Online - As said earlier, I'm a single player gamer. When I get a 360, I'll just keep the free Silver account on Xbox Live, since I'll use Xbox Live to download single-player content for games, and a few games on Live Arcade that interest me.

50 GB games - I've never had a complain with multiple-disc games or multiple-disc movies. I see no reason to change that view.

Casino Royale - I lost interest in the Bond movies after Tomorrow Never Dies.

HDMI - I'm content with my current set-up.

Standard HDD - Since my purchase of the Premium 360, which includes the Hard Drive, it's a moot point.

The Wii - While it doesn't have any games on it I'm interested in, I don't consider it a fad.

CPU - I skimmed over this one

PS2 outselling the 360 - I don't care what system is outselling another system.

Something for Everyone - Moot point for me. I play games for my enjoyment, and since I have no desire to have kids, I could care less if a system has games kids can play.

no and that wasn't really his reason either. he's simply stating that the 360 isn't even on top right now. and of course the ps2 sales aren't really helping the ps3, but they aren't hurting it either.

why would you 'skim' over one of the most important factors?

lol that segment had little to do with the actual movie and more to do with blue ray. you didn't read the article.
and it seems most of what you're saying is that sony will not lead this generation because you're content with your 360?

I don't have a 360 yet, so my explanation for the hard drive was a typo.

What I'm saying is this: I don't give a damn if Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo "lead" this generation.

I did read the article. I don't see any reason for me to buy a HD-DVD player or a Blu-ray player.

What's so damn hard to understand?

None of it, I just don't get why you would analyze a persons opinion and disagree for the sake of disagreeing if you don't even care at all...

or better yet why even reply to the thread at all?
