Spike announced the VGA awards. Not like it matters though. Last year it was a giant Brutal Legend commercial with a bunch of trailers. I didn't watch it, my roommate had it on. Most obnoxious thing I've ever seen

I bolded who I think will win.

Yea i saw this linked on another site. I went ahead and voted. I actually didnt have a problem with the choices for most of the categories, altho it is an absolute crime that Emily Rose didnt get a nod for best female performance for her work as Elena Fisher in Uncharted: Among Thieves.

I find it odd that Arkham Asylum didn't get nominated for PS3 GOTY when it had more than the 360 version.

Are the best game of the years for Wii & a PS3 a competition? Hell, NSMB is the ONLY good Wii game this whole year.

There were good Wii games, they were just more niche games. Like Muramasa and A Boy and his Blob.

Man, Hammil totally must win for his voice acting as Joker.

That would be a big statement on the quality of PS3 exclusives versus those on the 360 this year.

Hammil was good, but Nolan North was the best voice actor in any game this year.

I've not heard him in UC but Hamill's work as Joker is legendary. It is THE voice of the greatest comic villain ever. He deserves any award, however meaningless as the VGAs, whenever he's nominated for his work as Joker.

Claudia Black should have been nominated for Dragon Age, not Uncharted 2. I feel like she stands out more as Morrigan.
Oh... and MW2? screw that game...

Spidey i think you're pretty spot on with your guesses. I think DJ hero will win for music game since its different and actually good. I think that Uncharted 2 and MW2 will clean house.

How did Murray even get nominated? His performance was pretty much universally panned by critics and players alike. Hell, he recorded it on a golf course for gods sake. If anyone for that game should have got the nod, it should have been Akroyd.

I think Beatles will win both categories though, simply because it's easily the best made, and easily has the best songs in it. DJ Hero was fun, but the amount of polish on Beatles puts all the others to shame.

I care about the VGAs. The awards are BS but I enjoy staying up till like 3 in the morning to watch them. I use the countdown to reflect on my year in gaming too. T'is tradition I say!

Bolding what I think will win, putting what I want to win g.

I figure everyone will see that and think "OMG! Ghostbusters!!!"

Plus, it's The Beatles.

From what I have played Left4dead 2 is a fun game but I personally wouldn't have it up there for game of the year, I would certainly choose Dragons Age over it any day of the week.

Only two things I'll say. though I have yet to play Infamous, Left 4 Dead 2 or Uncharted...I think Resident Evil 5 deserved a nomination as one of the 5 best games of the year. I preferred Arkham Asylum, COD2 is a better game and from what I've seen, Assassin's Creed II will be my game of the year, but RE5 was a very fun game. I played through it like three times and got all my weapons on infinite and enjoyed fighting Wesker, saving Jill, etc. The CO-OP was amazing, but because the AI of Sheva was not the best (though not nearly as bad as people say) and only now, after loving RE4 for the last 4 years, people realize RE has become an action series more than a horror series, do they complain. If you liked RE4, you cannot levee the "RE5 wasn't survival horror, so I don't like it," complaint. I loved that game.

Moving on I have to agree with others that while Ghostbusters as a whole had amazing voice talents from most of the cast, Murray was the weak link. Akryod, Ramis, Hudson and even Potts and Murray's brother were all spot on awesome. But Bill just phoned it in. Akryod deserves the nomination and award, I think. Not that it matters.

Yea i could see RE5 being put in over a L4D2. IMO, the L4D series is one of the most shallow games of this gen. However RE5 wasnt really anything new. I mean minus the co-op it was pretty much the same game as last gens RE4(altho thats not a terrible thing).

By far though, the best game of this year was Uncharted: Among Thieves.

It's somewhat surprising people seem to like this game so much.
A lot of the features that are in Resident Evil 5 that aren't in Left4dead go against it being directly detrimental to the game play. Visually, the games very polished (and works extremely well in 3d), beyond that, the conception of the game seems extremely flawed, it's probably one of the worst, if not the worst designed big titles games I have played in recent years.

Excluding the competitive matches, it takes about 4-5 hours to get through Left4dead and slightly more for Left4dead 2. Resident Evil 5 took me about 6-7, slightly longer. Both of these games are designed to be played repeatedly. The problem with this, Resident Evil 5 uses cut scenes as a primarily means of story telling, these cut-scenes are not only for main plot points but also to alert the player of even minor things, such as enemy's entering the area. While the cut scenes are very cinematic, after the initial play through they become excruciatingly annoying. Further more both players must agree to skip them, otherwise it is forced. Valve attempted cut scenes in Left4dead but decided to take them out due to redundancy as well eating up actual game play time. The thing to note here isn't just the length of the game but reputability, Left4dead uses procedural generated content, content is created on the fly without being pre-determined. Items and enemy's are dynamic, creating unpredictability.

Another problem it seems is the actual beginning, middle and end of the two games. Resident Evil 5 can take around 6-7 hours to play through, Left4dead being around 4-5 on the first. Resident Evil 5 is one continuous game with chapters, there is no crescendo from playing through segments, instead, to reach a satisfactory conclusion, the player must entirely finish the game, that means you are a human team mate will be sitting for 6-7 hours, which is far too much, even on a first play through for most people, especially with forced cut scenes already seen previously. Valve chopped there campaign up into different, smaller 1-2 hour segments, each with a beginning, middle and end allowing the player to have a satisfying conclusions to there playing time, it's much more accessible for players to drop in and out and ratio between human players and dumb AI is far less hindering.

There seems to be other poorly conceived game play decisions such as quick time events that rely on both players. In nearly all cases these happen sporadically and without warning, if the other player is having problems, this can become a frustrating experience, especially if it's someone new to the game. The on the rail game play segments also fall flat, while they are enjoyable on the first play-through the immediately become redundant on further play-through. Like many single player games the boss battles have a single and fairly simple method of over-coming the enemy, after figuring out or being told via mulitplayer, there is no challenge what so ever, this is best suited for single player gaming.

I'm not big on the series and bought it on a whim, so I didn't follow the development articles and what not but it seems to me like they didn't want to make concessions one way or the other regarding the single player and co-op experience. Granted, the original Left4dead lacked a lot of the weapons of Resident Evil 5, Left4dead 2 does fix many of the criticism the original had, I still wouldn't call it an amazing game either as it feels like an improvement than an all out sequel. I would argue though as a game, it is much better conceived and much better executed than Resident Evil 5.

Nominating games like Rock Band or Guita Hero for "Best Soundtrack" is stupid. The game is the damn soundtrack, that's the point of it. It'd be like having a "Best Batman" category and giving it to B:AA.

Well I would say RE5 is far more fun to play than Left 4 Dead IMO. And maybe I play slow, but my first playthrough with a friend on RE5 took us over 10 hours to complete. But it was a blast. L4D is just a very shallow experience in comparison. I also do not see the criticisms of cut scenes in RE5 as you can easily skip them and they are at many times interactive and have a better story for them. I love Bioshock, but this recent anti-cut scene mindset in gaming is preplexing if they can be skipped. Further almost every chapter ended with a boss fight and ones like killing the informant on the Boat or getting by Chainsaw guy and the first interactive cutscene seemed like fine concluding points. And making the game overall a series of cliffhangers (given its short playtime) does not seem bad to me.

Maybe I'm just RE biased, but I prefer the game to LFD2 and think it should have been nominated for GAme of the Year, personally.
