Composer Yasunori Mitsuda, known for his work on the Chrono Cross and the Xenogears soundtracks, is in the process of working on the soundtrack for the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Mitsuda gave an update on how the soundtrack was coming along over on his Facebook page. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]

Mitsuda explained that recording the music for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is basically complete at this point in time, and then went on to note that this is the biggest production he has been involved with. He also added that he is in charge of budget management, booking, music sheet management, and composing.

Mixing the music has only just started for the cutscenes of the game, Mitsuda went on to say, so only half the tracks are mixed so far. However, he noted that the recording sound quality is good. Lastly, Mitsuda said that the team is working hard to top the original Xenoblade soundtrack, and that it’s the largest scale projects in the entire gaming world.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will release for the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2017.

Composer Yasunori Mitsuda, best known for his work in Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and the Xeno series, shared the latest update on his work for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in an update from his Facebook page.

Here’s the original message that was written in Japanese:

“Picking up where I left off on the Xenoblade 2 project, but I wanted to say that the choros recording that took place in Slovakia from April 30 through May 1 went smooth and sound. However, no my morning and noon is now mixed up thanks to the time difference (lol).

I want to thank everyone for all the help we got from the bottom of my help. This is the second time recording with the folks of at Slovakia’s Bratislava Symphony Choir, and they have a fantastic understanding of music, and know how to put up wonderful performances. I just can’t say enough good things about these guys.

The smooth recording was made possible to the likes of David-san the conductor and Martin-san the engineer. It really helped that we were able to record as if we were in Japan, but more than anything it helped being able to personally focus on the music.

David-san, Martin-san, and the rest of the Bratislava Symphony Choir—thank you very much. I’ll be looking forward to working together again!”

Mitsuda posted a shorter version of the message in English as well:
We had 5 recording sessions with the Bratislava Symphony Choir between 29th April – 1st May. This was our second time to work with them, and they were fantastic just like before – they conveyed the musicality that I was seeking through their wonderful singing. The sessions went very smoothly, which allowed me to concentrate on the music, thanks to the conductor David and the engineer Martin. It’s been a privilege working with them.

Many thanks to David, Martin and the Bratislava Symphony Choir, I am sure that we will work together again.

“We completed the music production of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 today without any problems. Thanks to the help from numerous musicians and staff, we were able to give it our all until the very end. Thank you very much.”

Earlier this month, Mitsuda-san said on his Twitter account that the music production on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 had data surpassing 1TB with Protools alone. Previously the most he’s ever done was 500GB. In addition to the involvement of over 300 musicians, Mitsuda said they went through about 20,000 sheets of music and that he doesn’t believe he’ll ever work on a bigger project until the day he dies.

The open-world JRPG is looking good!

The Nintendo Switch has had one of, if not the most successful launch years in recent memory. With Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2 already on store shelves with Mario + Rabbids joining them tomorrow, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 almost feels like overkill. And that's not even mentioning Super Mario Odyssey. That said, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is also due out in 2017, looking to hit during the Holiday season, and while we wait on a final release date, Nintendo has revealed almost an hour of gameplay during Gamescom 2017.
Here it is:

[YT]P_R1QP3prb4[/YT]
Much like the original Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, Chronicles 2 takes place on the bodies of giant Titans, and this gameplay demo takes place Uraya, a dimly lit cave located inside one of the colossi. The battle system is largely the same as past games, though it does come with a few refinement, namely in the way that the player can heal themselves. Players can now knock potions out of enemies that they can then retrieve to heal damage to party members on the fly.
It's a lot more streamlined than having to navigate your way through menus during the action clumsily, so it looks to be a subtle tweak that could end up paying off in a rather significant way.
We still don't know when Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will release, but suffice it to say; it should cap off an incredible first year for the Nintendo Switch.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Director Says The Game Has “An Enormous Amount Of Quests”. September 18, 2017 . 9:30am

In a post over on Nintendo’s Japanese blog, director Tetsuya Takahashi comments on how the development of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has progressed so far and what players can look forward to.

104 comments Read >

Over on its Japanese blog, Nintendo has shared a collection of posts on the games featured during last week’s Nintendo Direct. Among those titles was Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and towards the end of the post, the game’s director Tetsuya Takahashi gave a brief overview of how the development of the game has been progressing.

He also noted that the game will have unique battle music for different areas and that there will be “an enormous amount of quests and in-game content.”

Here’s a look at Takahashi’s full comments, courtesy of CAAAAAAAAAAAW over on NeoGAF:
And there it is, the December 1st release date.
The office has been a whirl of activity lately, fixing bugs and making final balance adjustments, but we’re almost there. I’m so grateful that everyone has put so much effort into crafting the game up until now. (Just look at all that grass that’s grown.)
I finished up a full check of the game the other day…we’re checking through the enormous amount of quests and in-game content now, but [Koh] Kojima(Producer) and everyone will be assisting, so I’m honestly not worried at all.

So, the trailer today only just introduced the basics. The characters and areas shown were only a small part of the whole, Xenoblade 2 has plenty more in store for players.

And the Blades are a must-see. We debuted “Finch”, who was designed by Kunihiko Tanaka, and there are many more rare Blades for everyone to look forward to! By the way, the song playing in the background of the battle explanation was “Fight!!”, by [Kenji] Hiramatsu, and it primarily plays in the early areas of the game. Different locations and situations will have different battle themes, so you can look forward to those too!

There are so many more things to talk about, but I don’t want to step on the PR staff’s toes, so that’s it for today. We’ll be revealing more and more details from here on, so please stick with us all the way until release!

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will release for the Nintendo Switch worldwide on December 1st, 2017.
