Bought Thought October 3rd

Thor's the best thing happening in comics for me. Captain America's probably second, with either Blue Beetle or Checkmate third. GLC's up there, but the Sinestro Corps War as a whole isn't.

I, personally, need more then three issues to declare something the best. A full story arc, at least.

I never said it was the best comic I'm reading. That'd probably be Checkmate. But it's the best thing happening in comics for me. It's the return of my favorite character after years in limbo, after all.

It's always a favorite thing. The "best thing happening in comics" is always going to be subjective.

So are favorites. You seem to be separating what you think the best is, from what your favorite is. That's what I was getting at.

HEY. Someone tell me who that *****e was at the end of Detective. Okay, he probably wasn't a *****e, it was just how Kramer drew him.:o

I think he was Desaad, Darkseid's right hand man. Or at least he looked like Desaad to me. Purple robe, ugly face, rumors of New Gods and Darkseid coming eventually, that sorta thing.

Whedon makes good TV shows, but Vaughan definitely writes better comics. Whedon's range from pretty great to downright mediocre. Vaughan's range from awesome to incalculably awesome.

Give Vaughan some time, and he'll make better TV shows as well.

Frankly, I never cared for Whedon's TV shows. :p

Does anyone know anything about "Iron and the Maiden"? I'm interested in picking it up but would like some reviews first.

You mean except for the 90% of Y the Last Man that sucked?
I don't know, I don't read that junk. I'm talking about Runaways, Dr. Strange: The Oath, Buffy, and Ex Machina, mostly. I've heard his Ultimate X-Men sucked, but that's about it.

Oh yeah, see, I didn't like his Ultimate X-Men run at all. It made Millar's smartass, irritating teenagers somehow even more smartass and irritating. And the Fenris twins were just ridicockulous as any kind of threat.

I found my liberal self being a bit dismayed at the Wolverine Annual. Maybe if it was Osama bin Laden, I'd be more open to it. I'm a little surprised they put him in costume for the massacre. Maybe it's easier to get the blood stains out of. Even though I find this issue a little over the top, I wouldn't mind the Wolverine solo books going more the way of the Punisher.

On the other hand, JLA Hitman #2 seems an ironic bookend to the Wolverine Annual. "We can't kill but we're glad that guy does." Seems a bit hokey to me.

The Wolverine Annual was like a trainwreck that I couldn't look away from away. I was a little taken aback, but I liked it. That was a ballsy, ballsy move for Marvel.

I don't get it. Wolverine killed a bunch of people in his annual and that's... shocking somehow?

Wolverine killed non-powered humans. And it was graphic and creative. Like stabbing a guy from behind with two of his claws and seeing those claws pop out the guys eye sockets in the front. Or holding guys down to hold his hand under their chins and pop his claws. This kind of thing is rarely (if ever) seen. Yeah, Logan'll tear into Creed or Omega Red, but that kind of brutality against street thugs was very surprising.

Was there any reason given? Rucka had Wolverine snap and kill a bunch of normal bad guys in his run, and it worked pretty well because it was a harsh reminder of the feral side he'd seemed to have forgotten about over the years. He even confessed to Nightcrawler over a beer in the next issue and brooded over it for a while.

Yeah, the difference being, he didn't snap. He put on his costume and killed these ****ers and then picked a flower off the ground and walked away. The reason behind the massacre, is that these guys robbed a bank, killed some people inside, and pushed an old bag lady down in the escape. She hit her head on the curb and died. Before hand, she had run into Logan, who was just out for a stroll, and given him a flower. It's basically Logan "avenging" the old lady's death.

I forgot to mention on scene in which he hides under someone's bed all day, waiting for them to come home, before popping his claws through the bed as they lie down to go to sleep.
