People tend to forget (or not realize) that American Dad was greenlit and went into production BEFORE Family Guy was brought back. If FG reruns had not found success on Adult Swim and DVD then AD is all we would have gotten in 2005. So, that's why AD has so much in common with FG. But once FG 2.0 was greenlit, AD was forced to find its new identity.

I agree that AD is way better than FG now.

Cleveland Show is the only thing I can think of recently that has gotten a second season being in that Sunday night line-up.

... well that's just not true. A character can be evil AND gay just as long as their not evil BECAUSE they're gay. Its the way it works with any minority group and really not that hard a concept to understand.

I'm not saying Stewie would be embraced by the gay community, but he certainly wouldn't offend anyone. Hell, He's already gay and villainous and there has been no backlash.

Sidenote, making a character an evil gypsy is just as offensive as making them an evil jew. I'm gonna get on my soapbox for a moment and mention that millions of gypsies were murdered in the holocaust alongside the Jewish people. No-one seems to bat an eyelid at the casual racism most gypsy communities are treated with or cares that there are still some countries in the world where they still have no basic human rights. It honestly astounds me how in 2011 it is still seen as socially acceptable to discriminate and be prejudiced against travellers, so much so that many people don't even realise they're doing it.
