Hi all,

There's been a lot of discussion about how to introduce Batman and Superman in Justice League and it gave me an idea. Why wouldn't WB/DC release a World's Finest movie first and have the Justice League be treated as a sequel to that?

If Bale's Batman really is done, then this would be the perfect way (in my mind, heh) to introduce a new Batman into Superman's universe. Even if Bale does come back, this allows the character to ease into a fuller DCU.

Additionally this would provide cameo options to introduce other Justice League members to setup that movie.

Whuddaya think?

There was talk of a World's Finest movie quite a while back. I think around the time of Superman Returns or soon after it. But it just never happened. I haven't heard any talk of it recently, just that they want to introduce less well-known characters like Flash and Wonder Woman, in a JL movie (in 2015), so as to be able to spin them off into solo movies. (Even one of the scriptwriters of Flash said that the JL movie would come before a solo Flash movie.) If these characters would cameo in a World's Finest movie, I think they would just go ahead and make a Justice League movie. I really think WB want to introduce a few characters quite quickly (in big part because of the success of the Avengers) so the JL looks to be the easiest option.

Justice League is the quickest way to jump, I agree. One of the reason that I'm for a WF first is because it's an alternative from what Marvel did and gives WB/DC a chance to softly introduce more of the Justice League cast. Ideally, when Justice League is released in this scenario, the GA is already familiar and more excitement is built.

The thing is, a World's Finest movie with just Superman and Batman would still make a BOAT load of money. Those are the two biggest superheroes in existence. It would definitely be a cheaper alternative to Justice League and still make Avengers money.

I just think realistically WB aren't going to want to take time to slowly introduce these characters, starting with a World's Finest movie. They're not making solo movies for all of them first, and that would be a better way to introduce all the main characters. They're making quick and easy business decisions. So that there is less risk with these other characters who aren't Superman or Batman.

If JL makes a boatload of money, it also means they can make those other solo movie spinoffs of the less popular characters as well. So the payoff goes beyond the JL movies and Superman and Batman.

But wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just do a Batman and Superman movie? Both characters have alread been introduced and one half of them just had an immensley successful trilogy. Batman, by himself, is a massive money maker, adding Superman will only sweeten it. A World's Finest could easily make the type of money Avengers made and be significantly cheaper to make.

I think we're discussing two different things, what WB/DC is doing and what they should do. A World's Finest movie is the easier way, to me, to cash in on Batman. It opens the door for cameos of other characters and provides a lead-in for Justice League in two movies (assuming MoS is a part of this). It took Marvel five movies to set up the Avengers. Granted, most of those movies were successful, but if WB/DC is in a hurry, I recommend this route.

Another thing to point out for anyone who believes DC is going to play copycat in 2015, this avoids that situation.

Could be. But WB would still want to make a Flash movie and a WW movie down the line and they are afraid to throw those out there without a JL movie first. I don't think a cameo in a World's Finest movie would be considered enough. They would want to introduce these other characters in some significant way, to increase their public profiles.

But who knows, maybe WB are headed towards another Justice League: Mortal debacle with this JL movie and it'll get scrapped again and they'll change their strategy!

So, eh... about what we expect? Heh

I would love a World’s Finest movie as a springboard to a Justice League movie. If done right it could act as a vehicle to establish not on the new Batman but the entire Justice League or at least plant the seeds to the concept and motivations for hero’s seeking each other out. Sadly I don’t think it will ever happen. They would need to have too much in place and make commitments that would directly impact a Justice League movie which is already going to be a massive undertaking. The JL movie is slated to be out in three years and if they do it right they are going to need every bit of that time. It’s not an “impossible” creative undertaking but I just don’t think it would get the administrative and financial support it would require to do it; let alone do it right.

Just not getting my hopes up!

For sure. In a perfect world, all movies would be great and we could have individual movies (and possible sequels) to build up to a team-up, but I'd be happy if we had a successful DCU. I love seeing cross-overs in comics, which is why this is so exciting to me.

Agreed. What I'd suggest is doing World's Finest for 2015, then maybe Justice League for 2018?

i think World's Finest first would be better. have Superman & Batman be the first of the JL to meet & team up. the film could also work as a jumping point to the JL.

Exactly, I mean, i feel like the first cinematic meeting of Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent definitely deserves its own movie. Then after they meet, bring on the rest in a JL movie. Many other posters have already suggested this but the proper way to do this is: World's Finest, World's Finest:Trinity (Wonder Woman) and then Justice League.

Should absolutely be the way to go. A team film does need build up but this offers a way of doing it DIFFERENTLY to The Avengers without tedious origin films of individual members whilst also offering something fresh and new that we haven't seen before. Batman meeting Superman is something audiences should be dying to see and is worthy of a film in itself. It's better from a storytelling and financial point of view as it would do massive numbers at the BO.

To be honest, I think a World's Finest movie would be less risky than Justice League. We know the characters and the origins. The writer would have a lot more freedom in the storytelling process.

Which is why I think Justice League may crash and burn.

They have no idea how to make half these characters work in live action. Solo movies let you figure that out.

The way to go would be for each JL member to get their solo origin movie, then World's Finest, then Trinity, the the JL film.

The problem there is that it's too soon to reboot origins that were just recently told. In the last 6 years both Green Lantern and Batman have had their origins told. Doesn't it seem too soon to do those origins again? The biggest knock on the Amazing Spider-man was that the first hour was filled with something that the GA has already seen recently, albeit about 10 years ago. It shows that continuing to start over isn't always the best route.

Yeah, I don't think Batman should be rebooted, the franchise just "finished", most people won't even have their DVD's of the last film yet.

It's definitely not a bad idea, but by no means is it necessary. However, I did vote that I'd prefer it that way because it'd be an excellent way to introduce a new Batman without immediately jumping into a reboot movie. Do WF, JL, a couple of new solos like Wondy or Flash and THEN go ahead with the new B-man. They could even set the movie in Gotham so that his world is introduced as well.

Only if it was Bale and Cavill then i wouldnt even care if there was a Justice League movie at all. I'd say screw JL and do the Darkseid plot in Worlds Finest.

But if theyre rebooting Batman and 100 percent planning their JL, which they are, then it's not necessary. Just do the team-up.

I would prefer it if the World's Finest was one of the spin-offs from JL. There are a lot of good aspects of doing the JL film first and then doing spin-offs which I have said for a long time is probably what they would do for a JL film and the separate franchises, and it appears that it is the approach they will take.

It's good because instead of just rebooting the Batman franchise and potentially the Green Lantern franchise as well with a brand new film with completely unfamiliar faces, there will be previously established actors (and possibly backgrounds/stories) for both characters to continue from or however they choose to use it.

And also the characters (WW, Flash, etc.) that we have waited for a long time to see on film can get a spin-off, once again with previously established film material so the General Audience will know the characters from film beforehand.

And I would also like a sequel to World's Finest with Trinity.

Trinity! We've seen superman and batman, a WF would be so anticlimactic. Bringing Wonder Woman would be the way to go
