Nicholas D’Agosto Joins ‘Gotham’ As Harvey Dent/Two-Face

Another Batman nemesis is heading to Fox’s Gotham. Nicholas D’Agosto (Masters Of Sex) has joined the cast of the freshman Fox drama as Harvey Dent. He will be recurring this season with an option to become a regular in Season 2.

In the Batman prequel series, based on the DC characters, Harvey Dent is a bright, charming, idealistic Assistant District Attorney whose sole mission is to eradicate the crime and corruption that has poisoned Gotham. Although he will one day serve as the white knight Gotham needs so badly as a DA, Dent also gives us a fleeting glimpse of the hideous villain he will become — Two-Face. In Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight, the role was played by Aaron Eckhart.

David Zayas was recently cast in the recurring role of Mob Boss Salvatore Maroni, the man responsible for disfiguring Dent, leading to his transformation into Two-Face.

D’Agosto, repped by UTA, Emerald Talent Group and Mitch Smelkinson, has arcs on the current season of Grey’s Anatomy and Netflix’s upcoming comedy series Grace & Frankie.

I think an older Harvey will work well. It'll be cool to see Gordon's scenes with another idealist like himself.

There's more potential this way imo.

If he was a kid, it would just be some childhood friend of Bruce with a dark side. Tommy Elliott can fill that role just as well

I wasn't looking for Harvey and Bruce to be childhood buddies. It's the age gap. Dent and Bruce are both supposed to be young men when Batman starts in Gotham. Harvey the fresh young new crusading D.A. and Batman the new vigilante. Dent shouldn't have nearly 20 years on Bruce. Just wouldn't feel right to me.

I feel like Penguin's the only one they've done right by starting him out as a young man while Bruce is a child because Penguin's always been an older man to Batman. Think Burgess Meredith and his age gap with Adam West.

I would have preferred they save Harvey for a later season. I mean, we all knew that he was going to be in it eventually. Still, this early in the game, I would rather them just focus on Selina and Penguin, with other minor villains playing small roles. It would also be nice to see Harvey as an example of Gotham's improvement. Season 1, have Gordon feel like he's in this fight alone, only to introduce Harvey in season 2 as an ally.

Unless they pull a Upstairs Downstairs by keeping most of the characters ageless save for Gordon, Cobblepot and Bullock along with the time jumps, I'm beginning to agree...

I'm going back and forth on this. On the one hand I'm sick of everyone being so much older than Bruce Wayne. It gives the impression that Batman won because all his enemies were geriatrics. On the other hand, District Attorneys tend to be very seasoned prosecutors. They don't have to all be like New York County District Attorney Robert Morgenthau who was probably always 137 years old, but they do have some years under their belt. More seriously, Morgenthau was 56 when he became DA. So is current DA Cyrus Vance. Tommy Lee Jones was 49 when Batman: Forever came out. Aaron Eckhart was 40 for Dark Knight. If he's 26 or 27 (enough to be a fresh out of lawschool prosecutor) that's 20 years until it's realistic for him to become DA (enough time for Bruce Wayne to become Batman in this show's timeline). Maybe the problem is having Harvey Dent as DA. Or, I suppose the alternative of just making him that good is viable. But it's not the worst addition so far.

Well in this shows universe it seems Bruce is going to become Batman at young age like 19 or 20 given that villians like Riddler, Penguin and now Harvey years older. It wouldn't make sense to have him become Batman at like 30 because the villians would be old by then and he is currently 12 so 20 seems to be the age they are going for. But back on topic, the casting for Harvey seems solid despite the age thing lol.

Well, luckily for Bruce's , it means he doesn't have to be Batman as long because all the super villains will be nearing retirement by the time he suits up. lol.

If Bruce is 12 and Harvey is 22, that is not much of an age gap. If Bruce becomes Batman at 20, Harvey will be 30. Harvey is still in his prime as Bruce just begins. Seems like the perfect formidable opponent to get Batman off to a heroic start.

TLJ was an older Two-Face and that didn't matter.

But I'm kind of miffed about this because I wanted to see Bruce and Harvey as childhood chums in this.
Both getting a feel of Justice and injustice together in their youth, like it was mentioned in the comics.

I totally bought Bruce being upset for Harvey and liking him in TDK, without them knowing eachother for that long. Even though Harvey didn't think much of Bruce, he remained courteous towards him.

And maybe that's not needed here either, a friendship.

But I loved how Bruce felt about Harvey in BF. The fact that they were once friends, Bruce blaming himself for the incident and feeling the conflict of his former friend's murder of the Grayson family.
And even then, as we know, Harvey was older than Bruce.

So maybe a friendship can be still formed, despite the age gap. Maybe Bruce could see Harvey as an older brother, if they are to come in regular contact.

If they play Harvey as being in his mid-20s, then when Bruce (who I think they'll establish as 12 or 13 judging from the way they've aged Catwoman) is about 20, Harvey will be early to mid-thirties. In that scenario, Harvey isn't old at all. And they've portrayed Bruce in the second episode as being unusually intelligent and coordinated for his age. Maybe they'll follow Scott Snyder's interpretation and have a college age Batman at the end of the series.

It's kind of silly to complain about a District Attorney being 40 something. He's an Assistant DA in his mid to late twenties. It makes perfect sense in context.

I don't care so much about Bruce and Harvey's relationship. I care more about Gordon and Dent's, and we're going to see it unfold in grand fashion, and probably not without their share of conflict. I can't wait.

I would turn off the tv immediately if i saw Bruce Wayne as a 19 or 20 year old Batman. Does he train as a teenager? I dont care how smart he is or how much pain he experienced from his parents' death, he's not equipped enough to know about life like he needs to be once he becomes Batman if he's only 19. At 18-19 you think you know everything but you know nothing. That's why it's important that he be in the latter half of his 20s at least once he dons the cape and cowl.

Maybe but the actor is 34, so i dont know if they're trying to pull a Andrew Garfield, make him a decade younger or have him in his early 30s which i imagine is Gordons age in this show. The Gordon-Dent element could be good here, but the Bruce-Harvey side of things will be the major downside. If that's the case, Harvey could be his father when you look at the age gap. I dont like it.

Two-Face isn't a physical threat to Batman so having him be older doesn't matter to me personally.

I am however miffed they are going through so many Batman villains so early. It's okay to reimagine some lesser Batman villains or bring in some outside DCU characters to show how the city corrupts people that populate the DCU in the latter years.

This is just turning into a Gotham yearbook at this point.
