I really enjoyed this episode, too. I came in thinking I was going to have to let this show grow on me, after the reviews. Maybe hunker down and hate the first few to get to later stuff? I've only seen the first two, but I've really liked them.
I wonder how much some of the hate on Jones is about Danny himself? I need to watch more to decide that, but I think Jones has been good so far. The scenes where he's talking about the plane crash are good because I think he shows his range there. He's naive, and sometimes he might as well be from another planet. But, I like it. There's a kind of purity in him that's interesting. I look forward to seeing how he develops. Colleen is awesome. The Meechum's are interesting. I sometimes even feel bad for Ward.[BLACKOUT] Pretty sure we saw him taking something, so he's probably nursing a drug habit as well.[/BLACKOUT]
[BLACKOUT]There were some great moments, too. I enjoyed seeing how Danny had convinced the doctor, only to then immediately sink himself by saying he had passed through an inter-dimensional portal. I'm sure there are some people who are going to hate having a character that innocent who can say something like that in an Asylum and not realize how insane it sounds. But, I liked it. And the ending, where the Iron Fist is awaken when he catches a beating. The way it was setup, when Danny said he learned that it was only in the heat of combat when he took hits that he would awaken in battle. And then, he smiles while catching a beatdown! I like how in the first two episodes, Danny quickly dispatches of low level enemies, as well. These guys aren't trained anywhere near his level, and it shows, because he's taking dudes down in one or two moves, with so little effort. I'm reminded of the energy that Daredevil expends, even in the pilot episode, for some reason, and think about how little energy Danny has used to dispatch anyone. He took down the guy coming for not "apologizing" so fast, I'm not sure the camera even caught it. The only reason it took anything out of him in that padded cell was because of how pumped full of drugs he was. I really ****ing loved the end, where he's running down the hall with his glowing fist, and just punches the **** out of that heavy door. [/BLACKOUT]
I was going to binge watch this, even with the negative reviews. But, I've really enjoyed what I've seen much more than I expected. I guess I'll see if the show gets worse?
