Man of Steel 2 News and Speculation

Brainiac showing up on krypton is nothing but good news, same with his presence on injustice 2. It's good exposure to those who don't already know who he is. So when we do get brainiac on the big screen there's more of an understanding of who he is by non hardcore fans. And we've seen them snatch up characters from tv for the big screen purposes too.

Agreed on all of this. Very glad to see him making an appearance and looking so good.

Seeing Brainiac from Syfy’s Krypton makes me sad that well never see him go toe to toe with the Man of Steel

He looks so badass :D

I get the sense Bayona is more flexible overall. Certainly more so than Vaughn. The biggest difference as I see it would be you need to have a script written for Bayona where Vaughn would most likely at least co-write a script.

Universal just announced a third JW film for June 2021 and set writers for it. Nothing about whether Bayona is attached to a sequel, which means he's probably looking for a different film post-JW:FK.

Agreed.

It's actually kind of depressing that we've had 8 live action films that have featured the character (Superman) and not ONE film where Brainiac has made an appearance, let alone used as a villain for the character.

To this day, I still believe that Brainiac should have been the FIRST villain for the Justice League to fight.

However, I feel like we may have to wait A LONG time before we ever see a live action version of Superman take on a properly portrayed looking Brainiac.

Superman's solo sequel is pretty much in development hell (just like SR's sequel was before it was inevitably cancelled) and any and all TV shows that we have dealing with Superman's world actually omits the titular character from the very premise of their respective shows.

And since we've already had 3 films in a row that have dealt with an alien villain bent on destroying the world, i feel like people may be worn out of that type of villain for the time being.

That is surprising. I'm not particularly a fan of the Brainiac character but I know a heck of a lot of people are.

I know right?!

That makeup is good enough for a movie let alone a TV series.

Excellent points

I guess blame movie execs and WBs. I mean Salkind wanted to use Brainiac for Superman III but he was told it was too cosmic an idea. Then WBs wanted Brainiac in a Superman film but entrusted an idiot like Jon Peters. They didn’t trust the right guys. Look at Krypton it’s got heavy Geoff Johns involvement and we have a comics accurate Brainiac. Says it all to me.

I have zero doubts about Superman returning to live action before long. I reckon he’ll be back on Supergirl at somepoint and we may have to wait a while but we’ll get a new Superman movie at somepoint.
I actually keep thinking wouldn’t it be awesome if we got a Superman series set in the Krypton universe. Of course that’s very unlikely but never say never. When something’s popular it can change the course of many things.

Honestly we just need a high quality Superman tv series on the DC streaming service. 10 episode seasons. Cancel Supergirl, Krypton and the Metropolis series that's in the works.

This pretty much feels very reminiscent of the time where the sequel to "Superman Returns" was left in development hell for awhile before it was officially announced that the series was cancelled in favor of a reboot.

And keep in mind that in the time that Warner Bros left us hanging as to what was going to happen with SR after it was released in theaters, we at least had a targeted date and a confirmed director and a writing team.

The character of Superman is going to need one heck of a Director and Writing team to revive his character because he's right now, he only has 3 Rotten Tomatoes films under his belt along with a trilogy's worth of ammunition for his critics to use against him (Man of Murder, CGI Mustache, Silent Brooding Hero, etc).

If we do get another Superman solo with Cavil, personally I'd love more of Eisenberg as Luthor, possibly with a Parasite, Metallo or Bizarro as his tool.

Metallo could be based of the Kryptonian "liquid geometry", letting him change and morph as he fights. Think the fight against the world engine but with the added threat of kryptonite and a cruel human intelligence behind it.

As far directors, I'd be would be interested to see what Denis Villeneuve, James Mangold or George Miller would do.

If we ever get another movie with Henry as Superman again, I hope that we get a trailer that matches the scale and feels that the trailer above gave out.

Love those trailers. Now you need a great movie to match that.

Agreed. If 'Krypton' pulls it off Brainiac gets a bigger fanbase. Also a TV show has more time to explain his backstory since a movie plot is usually accelerated.

I'm still optimistic about a MOS sequel. It doesn't feel like the "Superman Returns" sequel situation at this point. There are still grumblings that are positive e.g. a possible Shazam! cameo.

In a way I really want to think of Superman's story in terms of his story after MOS. I kind of want to forget (or rather, put aside) BvS and the JL movie, and focus on the continuation of Superman's solo story, since there is a clean slate and he is pretty much where he was after MOS, after all the chaos and messiness of BvS and JL.

I know we’re putting a lot of faith in Mario Robles but if you listened to him guesting on the BOF Vlog then what he said actually made a lot of sense. One of the big reasons WBs aren’t giving up on this DC Universe is they feel everything’s in place to make it great and that includes the cast. I was worried about Cavill for a time but not anymore.

Getting Brainiac a sizeable audience would be a great step. I want the Shazam cameo, and also think MoS should focus on being a MoS sequel rather than worrying too much about what happened in BvS and JL.

Absolutely - and I think that's what they'll do.

I think it needs to be a straight up Superman movie. Don’t know if that’s what you both meant anyway. But I don’t think it should in anyway be tied to anything that’s happened in the previous movies and by that I just mean no plot threads from the previous films.

That's how I took Iceman's comment - certainly what I meant

Yeah. Just have the previous stories as canon but don't refer to them and don't spend time trying to fix things unless there is a loose-end that absolutely has to be addressed. Move forward. Focus on Superman. Not the rest of the DCEU.

And then those who like BvS and JL can include them, whilst those who don't can pretend they never happened without it causing any problems with storyline/continuity.

Yeah. That seems reasonable for both of those audiences and it is a good way to give the next creative team flexibility in doing what they want without rebooting. Feels like the best of both worlds to me.

Yeah. I also think if they're truly serious about doing a MOS sequel ,they should think of a smaller scale story than Doomsday and Steppenwolf.

In other words, it doesn't have to be an "end of the world" baddie ,nor should it be another " How would the world react if Superman were real?" plot.

We've seen how the world reacts, we've seen the world nearly end, we've seen him be killed.

Just tell us a story that's isolated in Metropolis with a formidable villain .
