HBO has given a series order to “The Nevers,” a science-fiction drama from Joss Whedon. The series is described as a sci-fi epic about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.

Whedon will serve as writer, director, executive producer, and showrunner.

“We have long been fans of the incredibly talented and prolific Joss Whedon and we can’t think of a better project than ‘The Nevers’ with which to welcome him to the HBO family,” said HBO programming president Casry Bloys. “We look forward to meeting the strange, multifaceted characters of ‘The Nevers,’ to learn their stories, see them in action and share them with our viewers. We’re honored that Joss chose HBO as the place to build his ambitious new world and we are excited to get started.”

HBO landed the project in a competitive situation. Netflix had also bid for the ‘The Nevers.’

“I honestly couldn’t be more excited,” Whedon said. “‘The Nevers’ is maybe the most ambitious narrative I’ve created, and I can’t imagine a better home for it than HBO. Not only are they the masters of cinematic long-form, but their instant understanding of my odd, intimate epic was as emotional as it was incisive. It’s been too long since I created an entirely new fictional world, and the HBO team offer not just scope and experience, not just ‘prestige,’ but a passionate collaboration. I could go on, but — I’m impatiently grateful to say — I have work to do.”

I'm ****ing down.

Let's just hope Whedon doesn't get overly sanctimonious with this within the narrative. Judging by the guy's twitter and his past behavior, either he's always been like this, or the fame and ego did it. Just stick to writing great stories. I'm skeptical who he is now won't get in the way of that but for God's sake it's Whedon and HBO. He's still one of my favorite writers. I can overlook all of that to give this a definite watch.

Oh, HBO, maybe he'll do something different...

Glad to see him back working in TV again, but that concept synopsis isn't grabbing me at all.

I'm interested in seeing how this turns out. Hopefully he can return to form and hopefully Joss doesnt take being on HBO to do the whole useless nudity thing, especially with all the drama surrounding him the past few years.

They definitely have my attention.

Nah, **** or GTFO :sly:

Whedon's wheelhouse has always been tv so I kinda know what I'm getting.

Weird synopsis but I'll give it a shot.

All in!! That sounds like it might be very cool.

Theres at least 10 marysue.com writers chomping at the bit to post their already pre written critiques when the sex scene pops up in the first episode.

Also this sounds a awful lot like that Twist comic that Joss Whedon never got around to writing.

Joss' use of female characters hasnt been the most popular in recent years so he'll definitely have to make sure to check himself and if he does have sex scenes, not to have them just to have them and show some nudity because yeah people will be ready to pounce.

That was my first thought. I always thought it was weird that that got an SDCC announcement and then just kind of fell off the face of the earth and never got mentioned again.

After seeing Joss almost entirely wrapped up in superhero cinema since 2010, I'm super happy to see him do something that's just his.

I still wanna see Goners.

I still wanna see that and Faith's spinoff.

But Victorian era = no black people, so I'll pass on this one Joss. We know how you do.

Someone call me when he dusts off "Wanda The Immortal Waitress".

Well you never know, there may be that one black chick who is the product of a "forbidden relationship."

:o

Are you serious about that?

I hope it does not have GoT level T-n-A! Or none at all is fine by me.

A well written and acted show doesn't need to 'pound the flesh...'

As long as the nudity is "tasteful" and has a purpose, i'm down. I mean, you don't do a show on HBO just to tone everything down.

So i take it you've never seen Lord of the rings either. You're missing out on awesome shows and movies if this is really what you think.
