Max: The Artist Formerly Known as HBO Max

It looks like it’s going for a Brave and the Bold aesthetic. Not a bad thing
It doesn’t remind me of Brave and Bold at all. This clearly looks way more zany and stylized. Looks a little bit like Rick and a Morty if anything.

They clearly don't want my money. But you guys enjoy.

Seriously, America needs to be willing to do more serious animation. I know not everyone here is a fan of anime, but you gotta band it to the Japanese at least they’re more open about doing stuff that isn’t slapstick stuff. They have endless amount of animation with various tones, and they don’t mostly make comedies. Invincible looks good, but I’m still don’t think the animation is terribly good and Young Justice’s animation looks cheap as heck.

That ends my rant. Carry on.

Something to keep in mind, the looser animation style is cheaper, which allows them to do more action because there is less work to keep on model. And you really can't tell the tone by one still.

And praise anime all you want, but it still has the same budget issues american animation has.

For me to watch a cartoon, I have to appreciate the animation style. It is a big reason I do not watch the DC Animated films. This is not visually appealing. I have no interest.

For your first point: I think it’s readily apparent it’s going to be a sillier comedic leaning cartoon just based on the vibes I’m getting from the image. It looks cartoony and goofy. That being said, I guess I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover as that doesn’t mean it can’t have dramatic elements. And to be fair, there is absolutely nothing wrong with comedic cartoons(Harley Quinn is awesome). I think Western animation could try it’s aim for serious animation more, is all.

Also I just think there’s more well animated serious animated content in Japan than there is in American/Western cartoons. Does Japan have budget animation issues? No doubt. Never said they didn’t though if we are to compare say the average animation quality of 2D animated action shows like say the current Attack Of Titans to the current Young Justice show. Titans is in a league if it’s own. Though I think both the Adult Swim Samurai Jack and Primal are great but I just think anime in general, largely because the Japanese are more interested in doing that type of animation than the west just seems to have a higher quality of serious action animated content than the west.

That being said, I certainly don’t want to come across as saying anime is superior to western animation. That’s a super subjective claim. Since as I stated before, anime definitely isn’t for everybody.

I'm seeing more HBO Max vs Netflix vids on YouTube lately.

But why does Mera have an angry unibrow?

HBO Max was at 8M+ in October, they had 5M HBO/Go subscribers from Amazon in early December to 12.6 and then after Roku and WW84 they are now at 17.2M?

Numbers seem lower that I would have thought.
That's like almost 10% of what Disney+ and Netflix are raking in, in terms of subscribers.

I’ve definitely been watching more Max than Netflix lately. Netflix is too overwhelming with the content.

I find myself in a similar position. And with Netflix trying to capture almost every audience they possibly can, the quality of content remains inconsistent. So far, given HBO’s ability to focus on producing a smaller number of shows and movies, I’m more open to watching something new they add versus Netflix which seems to be driving their “Top” lists down your throat.

I hope that means it's also getting a Blu-Ray release, just like BTAS and Batman Beyond did when they got their HD remasters. Although I really like HBO Max, I'm not sure how long I'm going to continue to subscribe, and I'd definitely pick up an STAS Blu-Ray in case I ever stop subscribing.
I think there's a really good chance. It's the 25th anniversary this year, and there was that rumor a few months ago that they were planning a blu-ray release for it later this year, so...I doubt this remaster is a coincidence.

New on HBO and HBO Max: March 2021

Can’t wait to watch Speed again. One of the greatest action movies ever and definitely the best of the “Die Hard on a ...” genre
Never. Gets. Old. I seriously watch that movie any time I catch it on TV.

Also based on those dates, it looks like while everybody’s watching ZSJL, I will be binging the HD remaster of STAS instead. :D
