The Bond franchise has a massive amount of spin-off potential. How was the 00 series of agents formed? How did Bond make it into the ranks? What adventures did M go on as a younger man in the SAS? etc.
The problem of course is that these risk diluting the appeal of the main 007 films, which are always huge cinematic tentpoles that only come along every few years, thus they remain a big draw.
That's right. The same thing that happened to Star Wars. The movies used to be the big event. Now is just all over the place, it doesn't feel special anymore. Same thing is happening with Marvel Studios. They shot themselves in the foot.
They don't need to explain everything. It's ok if some things remain unknown. It's ok to leave something to the imagination.
In the case of Bond, they should take advantage of all of that you just mentioned and incorporate it into the plotlines of future movies. Some fresh stuff, new ideas, maybe even setting it in the past, whatever. We don't need a freaking Amazon TV spinoff about Q. Is like that show about Batman's butler (??????) Jesus Christ.
