NFL Offseason (Free Agency, Draft and Trades)

It occurs to me the Elliot would be a very good fit in Cincy at a very reasonable price. Mixon could use a break.

Methinks Ezekiel is gonna draw a lot of interest.

I just read they DID release him. This is going to be interesting. There are some teams that could really use him and it'll be relatively cheap.

I heard if the Chargers trade Eckler away, Elliott could be a possible replacement.

Like I said, if I'm a team with a pretty good RB, I'm keeping him AND trying to sign Elliot. Austin is a fine RB so why not relieve some of the stress on him and keep some of that tread on his tires?

Eckler asked the Chargers if he could speak to other teams about a trade. Eckler wants a contract extension...Chargers won't give it to him.

Didn't know that and, as a simple, humble, follower of the Silver and Black, don't really like the Chargers.....so screw San Diego.....I mean LA. I think the new, smart approach to RBs is to get a couple that'll help each other out. It doesn't cost that much and will help your offense more than most realize. Ekeler and Elliot would be a boon for their offense.

Las Vegas would do well to get that guy at the right price.

I'm very happy that the Jets will be signing Aaron Rodgers because the Jets fans are damn loyal except haven't seen much frutiful seasons on the field after the Jets defeated a favored Colts team in a Super Bowl.
Even the New York Mets known for glorious choking have had more prosperity than the New York Jets including they have improved since they've been making the Playoffs consistently this decade.

The Jets could be a damn good team with even a slipping Rodgers at QB as long as they don't have to give up too much to get him. Also, they don't have a lot of cap space and in order to bring Rodgers on, they'll have to do some shaking up of their roster.

I wish them well though.....I tend to root for the underdog and the NY fans haven't had a lot to cheer about.

Speaking of the Jets, they would do well to sign Elliot themselves. They were really hurt when their RB, Breece Hall, went down last year. He looked really, really good up to that point. Having those two guys in the backfield is a huge help for, presumably, Aaron Rodgers.

looks like Thielen is going to Carolina

I am overall pretty happy with the Browns moves this off-season. Defense badly needed to get some run stoppers and help Garrett out, and I think they did a decent job adding pieces. The secondary also got a boost. Hoping they can secure a #2 option to pair with Cooper. Then it really comes down to what the QB looks like next year. But I am pretty encouraged

Meanwhile, very quietly, the Detroit Lions are having a killer off-season: CB Cam Sutton and Safety CJ Gardner-Johnson both signed, instantly turning their secondary from a weakness to a strength. Couple that with their two first round picks this year and a likely easy schedule as a result of missing the playoffs, and, yeah, things are looking very bright in the Motor City.

Yeah.....The NFC north suddenly looks like it might be pretty tough. Chicago has done really, really well for itself. That move down to 9 is looking like a treasure trove of goodies. Picking up Moore was just icing on the cake (and pretty thick icing too). I can honestly see GB as the bottom team in the division. Man, things change fast. The year before last, the NFC West looked like a juggernaut, with the East looking like S***. A year later, the East ended up as the strongest division and now the North looks like it is going to be very formidable. We won't talk about the South. LOL

Atlanta looks like they've also done pretty well for themselves and the Saints not so bad either. Houston and Cleveland look like they've done good jobs.

If the Jets land Rodgers without selling their soul, they'll look very, very good also.

The New York Jets have been the entertaining embarrassment that has found ways to choke after that incredible Super Bowl Victory. A low amount of winning seasons, and they've not closed in winnable AFC Championship games including vs the Elway Era Broncos.

While they have had great athletes after the Namath era including Curtis Martin, Wayne Cherbet, Keyshawn Johnson, Reevis, etc they've underachieved since they've not been in a Super Bowl since that only Super Bowl appearance.

I see Mariota has found a new Birds team because he signed with the Eagles.
He was just good in 2022 for the Falcons not great like he was in 2016 and 2017 when he played for the Tennessee Titans. That's why no 1 was surprised that the Falcons decided to begin using Ridder to see if he's a franchise QB.

If things fall right for them, Detroit has a chance for their 1st NFC North division title EVER. The last time they won a division title was 30 years ago when it was the NFC Central. Man......and I feel sorry for the NY fans.... LOL

I think they're well on their way to winning the division this year. They were my surprise team last year and damn near made the playoffs. Dan Campbell is one hell of a passionate coach. It's exactly the fire the organization needed lit under them.

I think that's a a good move for both teams. Browns have a threat opposite Cooper and the Jets move up in preparation for trading for Rodgers. I should have seen this coming because the Jets went out and got a lot of wideouts. At 42 or 43, you can really help yourself. I think they go stud O tackle in round 1 and we'll see what they do in FA. I THINK they'll try to get a center and stiffen up their O line. In the draft, maybe they look to help their defense???

EDIT: I didn't realize the Jets already signed a center Wes Schweitzer. My bad, but that was clearly a need.

It'll be interesting to see if this puts a little more pressure on Green Bay to trade Rodgers. If you're gonna get Jackson, that's gonna cost you a treasure trove in personnel/draft picks AND salary. GB is, imo, sort of over the barrel. I think the Jets would be better served to get Rodgers and pick up a future starter. If they were to get Jackson, that's the long term solution. The thing about him is that, while he can keep you in the game against a slightly better team, I've seen him take the Ravens out of a game more frequently than I'd like.

There's only a few teams that could trade for Jackson and have the cap space for a long term deal. Is it worth giving up all that draft capital for him to just be injured again?

I don't think the Ravens budge on trading him. This is just gonna be another LeVeon Bell situation I think.

John Harbaugh says that he expects Lamar to be their starting QB Week 1.

While you never know, I think you're probably right. At some point, Jackson is going to drive his trade value down enough that it'll be worth it for someone. The other thing is that if the Ravens franchise him, he's gonna be making a whole, whole lot of $$$ because the position pays so well. I wonder if he pulls a Cousins....that seems like the most likely scenario.
