What if the sequels had shown that the Green Goblin was/ended up being in some sense right, that the general public preferred to watch a hero "fail, fall, die trying" and thus eventually hated Spider-Man?

I think it's interesting that the Green Goblin and TDK Joker made similar predictions about how the public would feel about the hero, turn against him, and that the Goblin made it first generally isn't noted much but that makes sense given that it wasn't followed up much, in fact with the film ending and then sequels he was pretty much shown to be wrong.

It would certainly be counterintuitive and maybe controversial if, given how popular he was IRL, Spider-Man's public reputation within the films had gotten worse over time and the general public in the films had been portrayed as being ungrateful.
