Maybes:
FINAL CRISIS RESIST #1 $3.99-Did enjoy Submit, but once again, I'll wait to see if any actual relevance comes of it first.
IRON MAN END $4.99
X-MEN SPIDER-MAN #1 (OF 4) $3.99

MARVEL COMICS
CABLE #8
X-MEN MANIFEST DESTINY #3 (OF 5)
X-MEN SPIDER-MAN #1 (OF 4)

X-Men/Spider-Man is a "maybe" for me. Other than that, this is an odd week for me. I have 17 items on my pull list, and those three books are absolutely nowhere on that list. 17 items. None of them on sale.

FOUR EYES #2
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #576
DAREDEVIL & CAPTAIN AMERICA DEAD ON ARRIVAL (MR)
PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL ANNUAL #1

Decent week.

DC COMICS

SECRET SIX #3 $2.99 - Interested to see what Cheetah's been brought in for, particularly in light of the January solicits.
TERRA #1 (OF 4) $2.99 - Maybe; I like the art team.

Wow; and one of those is a maybe.

FINAL CRISIS RESIST #1 $3.99
SECRET SIX #3 $2.99
AVENGERS INITIATIVE SPECIAL $3.99
X-MEN SPIDER-MAN #1 (OF 4) $3.99

Makes me sick that 3 of my 4 comics are $4.00. Anyhow, slow week. Good stuff though.

AVENGERS INITIATIVE SPECIAL
CABLE #8
MS MARVEL SPECIAL STORYTELLER (what is this?)
ULTIMATUM #1 (maybe)
X-MEN MANIFEST DESTINY #3

DYNAMO 5 #18 (hopefully it really is coming out this week and not a tease. This book is often 1-2 weeks late)
ADAM: LEGEND OF THE BLUE MARVEL #1 (a retcon Silver Ager being shoved into the mythos, not unlike Sentry. So why am I giving it a try? One, Grevioux. Two, because Marvel & Wizard didn't conspire to lie to their customers about the creation of the title character)
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE SPECIAL (why can't it just be an annual?)
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #7

I am strangely curious who wants to see Iron Man's End. :p

Bad joke.

Hmm. Bit of an average week. X-MEN/SPIDER-MAN seems to be a bit of a waste of a mini, but I may get it on a whim if the flip-through looks alright. Really, did the world cry out for a meaningless mini series detailing retconned past team-ups that in no way matter to continuity between Marvel's hottest franchises? Or just trying to draw more cash from suckers?

Probably is just a money sucker, but it could be fun, and with all that's been going in both titles, it might be a nice, fun stand alone story.

I listed it due to it being a slow week. The only 2 issues I'm really interested in are 2 and 3 (2 w/ Morlock Massacre and Kraven's Last Hunt & 3 with the Clone Saga and Mr. Sinister). And only issue 3 makes me curious enough to pay $4 for it. I figure I'll skim it at the shop and decide then if I'll actually buy any of the series other than issue $3.

DAREDEVIL & CAPTAIN AMERICA DEAD ON ARRIVAL (MR) $4.99 What's this supposed to be about?

If I remember correctly it's a stand alone team up story between Daredevil and Steve Rogers Captain America investigating some murders or something.

It looked good, but $4.99 is too steep I think

Well, it's a light week for me anyway. I might give it a go.

Probably is just a money sucker, but it could be fun, and with all that's been going in both titles, it might be a nice, fun stand alone story.

Perhaps. Like I said, it would depend on a flip-through impression and a whim.

I'm not against buying "fun but pointless" Marvel books. THOR: TRUTH OF HISTORY really wasn't much in terms of continuity but it was a fun adventure story. X-MEN: FIRST CLASS often fit awkwardly into 60's continuity via retcons, but it was a fun book.

Naturally, you're one of the few Ben Rielly fanboys left. :p

To me he is simply one of many symbols of Marvel's longtime obsession with trying to "fix" Spider-Man and usually making the franchise worse for it. Such obsessions pre-dated the Joe Q regime and it is a shame he has continued them.

Anyone else beginning to grow wary of $3.99 appearing to be the default price for any one-shot or mini-series issue that Marvel seems to be putting out lately? The last time "regular" issues hit around that number, the Comic Bubble burst in the 90's. Marvel is now saturating the market at similar levels to 1996. Is a repetition of history looming?

To me, it usually equals greed, especially if such issues do not have extra pages. I mean, if it must be above $2.99, fine. But is $3.25 right out? $3.50? How about $3.75, would that put Marvel in the poor house? Increasing prices while continuing to rely heavily on the obsessive, impatient (because trades are always cheaper with zero ads; you just need to wait 4-8 extra months for them) hardcore fan in the midst of the worst economic crisis in 50-70 years just seems a bit....ignorant at best. It seems a bit much to IMMEDIATELY leap a full dollar in price instead of steady increments.

For all the talk of "Marvel is a business" from Joe Q, he sometimes has all the savvy of a comatose chimp...or a Wall Street Executive (whichever is less connected with reality). Do they literally teach courses in learning how to be oblivous to "the little people" upon anyone entering any executive or chief position? Sheesh.

While riding high on movie success, now would almost seem the time to CUT prices. Cheaper entertainment might get more parents and kids into the shops, or to look over to the shelves they pass on the way to YU-GI-OH cards, and give some issues a try. Comics flourished in past economic recessions by being cheap enough that most kids with pocket change could score an issue somewhere. Lowing prices, even for a few month during the crisis, could do more to bring in those elusive "new fans" while giving older ones and retailers a little break than even the biggest rape/death/slugfest event.

Nope. Makes too much objective sense. It'll never happen.

Shouldn't that be a reason not to buy it?

Not quite. Grevioux isn't my favorite writer but I have liked his NEW WARRIORS overall. His YOUNG AVENGERS PRESENTS issue was hardly the highlight of the series, but it wasn't terrible (Brian Reed's Hulkling issue, with hindsight, has proven the most boring and pointless of the six). How he does with Blue Marvel may determine his status to me once and for all. Right now he's a mid-level writer to me. Not quite one I will always follow, but not one I'd avoid, either.

I was thinking of trying Blue Marvel, but it really sounds like all the most clichéd parts of the Sentry and Captain America put together.
