I'm starting this thread because I couldn't find one. I was going to name it the 'Independent' party, but I don't think that quite puts it clearly enough. The democrats and republicans both have their own threads, I could find none for those who are independents and this is a form of independence that I'm seeing rising. It's one of the things that Hillary, Trump, 3rd party and non voters have in common, our commonality, rejecting the ways of old and wanting to tear the establishment down. This is for those who hated both candidates and what the system has come to be. Right now, I believe that's something crucial to focus on - our commonality.

Many claim that holding such a belief as tearing down the Democrat, Republican, and 1% system is dangerous, I say that's reactionary. The founding fathers as well as hippies and political activists of the 60s/70s were seen as dangerous by the elders as well. Some of the same elders (not all) who handed many of us the Great Depression 2.0 to graduate to starting in 2008, so along with that we have to try to ensure we don't make the same mistakes they did that got us to this point. What those moves were though that got here, I don't know. Something is happening here and that thread is for that.

I want to stress anti-establishment does not mean bigoted. Anti-establishment is taking power away from those in charge and giving it back to the people. Away from the republicans and away from the democrats, we've seen what their forms of government and corporate machines have done - the world that's created that we've unfortunately inherited. We have to remember that the main threat here is the establishment - not each other, not minorities (that's just a ploy to divert). This in-fighting is taking focus away from the real threat that's been standing over us for years. Bob Dylan puts this great, this isn't an old strategy that the establishment has employed to turn the 99% against each other:

It's an old ruse, an old con that's been played throughout time to make people look the other way.

The democrats and republicans have their own threads, this is for the outsiders. The so-called "dangerous" ones. The ones who are truly tired of playing within party lines. With this view increasing, as said, I feel like it deserves its own thread because we are growing in numbers.

Here's the thing. You can't trade one form of establishment for another, that's keeping the establishment. Anti establishment means exactly that - tearing down all parties as well as the 1%. In short, this is for those who viewed Trump and Hillary as evils, suspicious of both. This means protecting all people. And the second Trump steps out of line, the second he does anything to benefit the rich instead of the poor and middle class us 99% - as Bernie suggested, we stomp on his throat and truly work to take our country back.

As said, to the elders this thread will be seen as "dangerous" but fact of the matter is - this is a rising social consciousness, something that can't and should not be ignored. Especially when it's the one belief that unifies people.

Here is the thing, I've been a registered Independent my entire voting life, which is far longer than 95% of this forum.

This may not be any where near what you mean, as far as starting this thread...but it looks like you believe that whoever is the loudest is the one that will be the most influential. Again, that may not be your idea of this thread, just calling it as I see it.

The problem I see today is that with many, and I'm not going to call out any particular generation, it happens with a lot of people, and is cross-generational. But, this kind of thinking is seen as "the cool way to be" these days..."stick it to the man" so to speak. That isn't really influential.

If the thread is to call on those that did not vote this time because they didn't have a savior they could call their own, or their savior didn't make it through the fire of primaries, then I'm all for it, they need to get off of their asses and vote, in all areas, not just Presidential Elections, ALL ELECTIONS. If the thread is to rally people to the 2018 elections of Senators and Representatives, etc....and to hit the pavement and get the word out on candidates that they believe in? Candidates that are not just talk, but have proven themselves... I'm all for it. If the thread is to bring people together of all walks of life, all callings, all opinions and find some common ground to build from rather than laughing at those that think differently in some areas of life, great...bring it on.

But if it is simply another thread to bully people of a different opinion, and ridicule people that maybe believe in a way that you do not.... then this thread is not one of Independent thinkers and doers.

I spend every single day of my life in the classroom educating activists, thinkers, doers....and they are able to debate and discuss, and even argue in a far different manner than what I see here on a daily basis. So if your thread is for that kind of debate, discussion and even at times argument? Bring it on....it deserves to be something of an "Independent Thread" .....if not, then it is simply more anarchist, lets be the loudest, funniest, coolest, ever ********.

The only "real activists" I have seen in a very long time just won an epic battle at "Standing Rock". THAT is the kind of activism that brings a paradigm shift in our society.

That means it is not who is the loudest, but who has the knowledge, the facts, the calling behind them.

So, if this thread is for that group of people? Bring it on....

As for me, I don't hold out much hope, but I'm always ready to be proven wrong.

The title however, I don't know....is the thread for the 1% people? sounds like it. ;)

This is more a place for those who aren't democrats or republicans to openly voice their views.

I used to be an anarchist, but now - the best term to define me is socialist, but I prefer independent because of the strings that term (socialist) has attached to it. Neither party is doing enough, it's become a dick measuring contest halting any progress that can be made. Plus, the 1% ultra capitalistic views are corrupt and backwards, it's something many have fought rather recently with the March on Wallstreet. I'd call it the "socialism" thread (since it is what's meant by neither party works and that capitalistic machines are evil), but I'm unsure how many would know what that is behind some of the connotations that's been attached to it.

Anti-establishment and anti-1% are terms tossed around today, terms that for many I am sure point to a form of socialism. However, I still see the red scare and Fidel Castro being attributed to it more than the likes of Nelson Mandela and Martin Luthor King, etc. And George Orwell who's 1984 is becoming more of a reality day by day. Not aligning with either party and not being for the captialistic 1% are socialism beliefs, only most don't use that term and when it is used - they toss that into the likes of Castro instead of Martin Luthor King and Mandela to dismiss it. In short, anti-establishment and anti-1% are the safest terms for it in today's climate still (especially with the word rotating everywhere around Castro right now - I didn't title the thread 'socialism' out of fear that people would hijack it and focus on Castro since that is where it's rotating in the news now).

My hero, who I've recently found is Phil Ochs (folk singer from the 60s/70s) who called it like it is. This socialism movement that's increasing around the world. Rather than ignore it, this group (to which I merely just belong) is a voice to listen to for those in political parties who want to start finding answers to "what did we do wrong?" The scary thing is it's the xenaphobes around the world picking up on this uneasiness of the people and using it the most, that's the only thing that they have going for them. The only thing, that they're listening oddly.

An election where voters feel backed into a corner of having to vote for a lesser evil and hate both candidates, to me is not an election by the people at all - it's a forced choice and any way it's spun a forced election. The election I would have loved to see is Bernie v. Trump and I know I'm not alone in saying that.

For those thinking socialism - Castro... red scare... here are the:

Famous socialists

Nelson Mandela
Martin Luthor King Jr.
Victor Hugo ('Les Miserables')
George Orwell ('1984')
Mark Twain
Albert Einstein
Pablo Picasso
Francis Bellamy
