Last week, Fire Emblem Heroes released for iOS and Android, making it Nintendo’s latest foray into mobile gaming.



GameXplain has now shared a recent interview with Kouhei Maeda from Intelligent Systems, the developer of Heroes. In the interview, Maeda touches on a handful of different points regarding the making of the game, including the challenges of making a Fire Emblem title for mobile devices, how microtransactions affect balancing the game, future support, and more.

Between now and March 14, 2017, Fire Emblem Heroes will offer five launch celebration maps. Completing each one on the two difficulty levels available will net you 6 Orbs per map.

To celebrate the debut of Fire Emblem Heroes, Nintendo’s latest mobile game, a special event is running to give people an opportunity to challenge themselves and earn additional summoning Orbs. Between February 6 and March 14, 2017, five maps will be released. Each one will be available on two different difficulty levels, and you’ll receive 3 Orbs the first time you beat each map on Normal and Hard.

The first map is is a good one to send axe wielder and wind mages to. Jeorge and Gordin are the two archer units you’ll encounter in enclosed spaces, and they’re accompanied by Oboro, who wields a spear, and the thunder mage Robin. You’ll need to break down the walls to the archers’ rooms before you can proceed to the additional warriors. Robin and Gordin are probably the biggest threats on the map, so be cautious.

Here’s the schedule for the Fire Emblem Heroes launch celebration maps.​

The 10,000 Hero Feathers, used to rank up the star ratings of your characters, aren’t immediately available, but we’ll likely see them being sent out sometime after the event actually ends. I’m guessing Nintendo underestimated Fire Emblem fans for this one, so we’ll probably see much higher numbers for the next Twitter campaign.

“Choose Your Legends” was a campaign prior to the release of the smartphone game that had fans vote in on their favorite Fire Emblem heroes. When we previously saw the midterm ranking results, we saw Ike, Roy, and Hector in the top-3 for male heroes and the female side had Lyn, Lucina, and Tharja as their top-3.

Those who participated in the campaign should have received 200 Platinum Points added to their My Nintendo accounts. You can check more on that here.

We can expect to find out the full results on February 9, this Thursday in Japan, but keep in mind that it’s based off the Japanese time zone, so there’s a chance we’ll see it get announced later today depending on when Nintendo decides to do so.

The event has a Normal mode at level 25 and a Hard mode at level 35, and it’s actually pretty tough compared to previous events. To top it off, you need to keep all your party members alive for it to count.

Fire Emblem Heroes just updated with its Launch Celebration Special Maps Part 3 as well as a new set of special quests that involve playing with parties consisting of only sword, spear, or axe-users. It’ll be around until February 27, so be sure to get your Orbs!

The event, called “Special Weapon Quests” can be found in the Quests & Missions part of the game with three new sections called “Sword Mastery,” “Lance Mastery,” and “Axe Mastery.” These three come with their own challenges and you can get up to six orbs from completing them.

Additionally, the Part 3: Launch Celebration Special Maps went live tonight as well, and they’re giving away 3 Orbs each as before, for an extra 6. With the Special Weapon Quests, you can get 12 orbs with relative ease.

When playing Fire Emblem Heroes, sometimes it’s the little things that matters. Characters’ mutterings or clever asides can remind you why they’re so interesting and special.

There are a ton of characters in Fire Emblem Heroes. You can summon people from Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, Fire Emblem Fates, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. With so many people, getting so little time in the spotlight in the campaign, it may leave players wondering how true this mobile title can be to a standard Fire Emblem. While the campaign isn’t as robust or deep, at the very least it does its best to honor the characters who appear here.

It isn’t Fire Emblem Heroes’ campaign that does these characters’ justice. While there can be moments when familiar faces’ enthusiasm or personalities can come through, they aren’t the best way of showing off these people we’ve loved over the years. Each chapter follows a set pattern. Alfonse, Sharena, Anna, and the Summoner (hey, that’s us!) go into a realm in which Veronica and the Emblian Empire have enslaved iconic heroes. They proclaim that they must fight us, even if they don’t really want to fight us, and wish for their freedom. You battle them a few times. After the final fight in that word, there’s some exposition about how you’ve freedom them and saved their realm. The only story development really comes in the introduction and final chapter, giving us a handful of hints about what’s happening in the Askr Kingdom and Emblian Empire. It’s the other elements in the game that help flesh out these people we know and love.



Fire Emblem Heroes’ first paralogue does a better job of paying justice to the series and its characters. In these three maps, we face Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones’ Ephraim and Eirika and Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War’s Seliph and Julia. The Seliph and Julia dialogue shows a typical relationship where an elder brother who has been separated from his little sister before is clearly concerned for her wellbeing. He’s a little more cautious with her, and she’s behaves as though she’s a bit more dependent on him. On the other hand, the Ephraim and Eirika conversation is hilarious. As twins, they’re often said to be quite close. Let’s just say there are certain fan-creations that go into how close they may be. In his storyline, Ephraim references such works, calling them disgusting. (This comes after extolling the virtues of his bond with Eirika, of course.)

Perhaps the best parts are the Incidental references that pop up as you play Fire Emblem Heroes. The game is always offering little winks and nods to people able to pick up on them. When Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem’s Wrys doesn’t do a good job upon leveling up, he makes sure to note that his progress is still pretty good for someone like him. Shanna, from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, laments that she’ll never become a full-fledged pegasus knight, like her sisters Juno and Thea, if she doesn’t advance. Tapping characters in your castle’s hall prompts similar comments related to their pasts and lifestyles. Effie, a Fire Emblem Fates knight always training to protect princess Elise, notes that she keeps stones in her armor so she’s becoming stronger even when just standing around. Camilla shows her constant flirtatious behavior, the sort she shows her beloved Corrin in Fire Emblem Fates, with quotes like, “Let’s watch out for each other. You know what they say: I’ll wash your back if you’ll wash mine!”

Unfortunately, for lesser known characters, people may not realize when things are or aren’t accurate. Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War’s Seliph is a good example. He references his father Sigurd, saying he wants to uphold his legacy, and often talks about trying to meet people’s expectations and be strong. Fitting, since in his game the second Book stars him, as he attempts to live up to the standard his father set in the first half of the game. Raigh, a character from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, is available to all of us as we start out. He seems stand-offish and sarcastic, saying that he needs to get stronger for a reason. However, people who didn’t play his Game Boy Advance game wouldn’t know that was because he and his twin brother, Lugh, sons of Nino, were raised in an orphanage. He wants to be known for ancient and dark magic, while also helping children in situations like his own.

These little extras matter so much more than you’d expect. They help keep Fire Emblem Heroes interesting. It allows us to identify with the characters we care about. We’re able to remember how much they mean to us whenever they make a reference we recognize. While the battles are entertaining enough and the drive to build perfect teams are great reasons to keep playing, it is these little pieces of personality packed in that allow us to make deeper connections.

Similar to the Grand Hero Battle with Narcian, you’ll get to take on Mystery Tactician: Robin at level 25 in its Normal mode and level 35 for its Hard mode, which respectively unlocks her 2-star and 3-star versions. She’s a pretty good green tome with a decent set of skills, so she might be useful to those who are lacking in the green department or any tome-users.
As for the new Focus, it’s called “Battling Robin,” and it features Awakening Tiki, Fir from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, Hawkeye from The Blazing Blade, and Maria from Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Mystery of the Emblem, Shadow Dragon, and New Mystery of the Emblem.

Again, don’t forget that the characters in this focus come with 3% initial appearance rate when you choose the focus. You can’t get Julia, Ephraim, Eirika, and Seliph with this one, but you can get it from their Family Bond focus, which will be around until February 27 along with the new Battling Robin one.

According to the Japanese Twitter account for the game, passing along a skill means having to send home the hero with the skill in other to have the other one “inherit” it. No further details were shared, but the idea of being able to pass on skills could make for some interesting character growth in the smartphone strategy RPG.

Here’s what the new notice says on the game:

If you participate in Arena Duels and close the Fire Emblem Heroes application mid-battle, then later resume the battle again via bookmark data, you may not get an extra score boost while using Bonus Heroes.

Your Arena Defense Reward score may be displayed inaccurately or not appear at all. Note: You will still receive the correct reward.

This will be fixed in an update coming soon.

The Grand Hero Battle started tonight and will continue until March 14. The “Ursula: Blue Crow” Grand Hero Battle is available in the Special Maps section. This time around it is a little tougher than previous Grand Hero Battles with a Hard mode option at level 30 that gets you a 3-star Ursula and a Lunatic mode option at level 40 that gives you a 4-star Ursula.

As for the new Summoning Focus, called “Battling Ursula,” it gives you higher chances of acquiring the Heroes Effie, Felicia, Nino, and Setsuna. This, too, will be live until March 17, 2017.

Nintendo announced today that the next “Grand Hero Battle” for Fire Emblem Heroes will take place on March 24, and it features Michalis, the Ambitious King who appeared in several past titles.

The last Grand Hero Battle featured Ursula and it came in a Hard mode option at level 30 and a Lunatic mode option at level 40 to get 3-star and 4-star Ursulas, respectively.

Fire Emblem Heroes is available on iPhone and Android.

Nintendo shared a rather big notification letter for Fire Emblem Heroes, with plenty of info on the April update that includes changes for Inherit Skill, Hero Merit, New Rules for combat, and more on future plans.

Here’s everything from the notification, that is currently available to check out in the game:

The April Update

– Inherit Skill and Merge Allies: Changes Coming​

It will become possible to inherit skills that were previously inherited when using Merge Allies.

For example, let’s say Marth has inherited the Special skill Sol. If this Marth that inherited Sol is used as the source character for Merge Allies, the target Marth will also inherit Sol.

In this example, if you performed this action in the current version of the game, Sol would be lost.

– Hero Merit​

Heroes that take part in battles will earn Hero Merit, or HM.

Once a Hero has earned enough Hero Merit, you can acquire Hero Feathers.

Please note: Duplicate Heroes will share their Hero Merit.
​

– New Rules for Combat​

Two new rule sets for battle will be added:

• Defense: Clear the map by defending against enemy attacks for a set number of turns.
• Reinforcements: Enemy reinforcements will appear on the map.

– Adjustments to Arena Scores and Matchmaking​

Changes are coming to how the game handles Arena scores and matchmaking conditions.

Currently, players are matched based on the number of total base stats of their characters. In the future, matchmaking will be based on a combination of the four values listed below:

• 1. Characters levels and ★ rating.
• 2. Number of bonuses gained by using Merge Allies.
• 3. Total base stats after removing the effects from all skills, including Weapon skills.
• 4. Equipped skills.

This change will help better match players with opponents of similar strength. It will also slightly increase the score you can obtain on all difficulty settings.

– Bonus Hero Descriptions in the Arena​

When you tap on a Bonus Hero in the Arena, a description of the character will appear.
​

– Notification Display Adjustment​

Notifications will be displayed automatically only once a day, and then not pop up again until the next day. A new day begins in Fire Emblem Heroes at 1:00am.
​

– A New Way to Expand Your Heroes’ Abilities​

We have plans to add a new equippable item that slightly expands Hero abilities. Look forward to more details about this new feature in the days to come.

Upcoming Grand Hero Battles​

Here are the Grand Hero Battles planned up through the end of May:

• Late March (March 24) – Michalis: Ambitious King
• Early April – Navarre: Scarlet Sword
• Late April – Zephiel: The Liberator
• Early May – Xander: Paragon Knight
• Late May – Lloyd: White Wolf

Future Plans​

We’re currently hard at work developing a new in-game event. Since many of the details aren’t set in stone yet, there’s not much we can share at this time, but this new event will require tactical thinking… since you won’t be able to revive allies who fall during battle.

The goal of this new event is to provide the thrilling play experiences the Fire Emblem series is famous for in a way both series fans and newcomers can enjoy.

In the current plan, you will gain battle achievement evaluations that will earn you special rewards.

Don’t worry! You won’t permanently lose any allies that are defeated while playing this event. We’ll share more information about this event as soon as we can. Please look forward to it.

Fire Emblem Heroes’ latest update brings the Skill Inherit feature that allows you to pass along skills from one Hero to another, as well as a new set of Training Tower quests.

The Inherit Skill feature allows you to learn up to three skills at once from a Hero. Using this feature, a Hero can inherit learned or unlearned skills from another Hero; however, keep in mind that a Hero doesn’t immediately learn a skill just by inheriting it. In order to learn the skill, they’ll need 1.5x the normal amount of SP.

Additionally, you’ll lose the Hero that provides the skills to the other Hero, so you’ll need to use the Inherit Skill feature wisely. Starting Version 1.2.0 (currently 1.1.1) that is expected to launch in April, your Heroes will get to inherit skills through the Merge Allies features.

For example, if you have a Marth with the special skill “Sol,” if this Marth is used as a source character for Merge Allies the target Marth will also inherit Sol. Doing so in the current version of the game will result in the target Marth not getting Sol, which was previously inherited by source Marth.

Again, not all skills can be inherited by Heroes, as they vary depending on the source and target Hero types. Some special skills can’t be inherited as well. You also cannot inherit skills from a Hero that has been marked as favorite.

And finally, the Training Tower just got new set of Special Quests with twelve quests with various challenging requirements. Each one gives you 3 Orbs upon completion, so if you’re able to complete all 12 that’ll give you a whopping 36 Orbs. Keep in mind that these quests require you to repeat them from five to fifteen times, so you won’t be able to do them all in a sitting without any extra help from items.

Super Mario Run Will Dash Onto Android Devices Next Week. March 19, 2017 . 9:30am

March 23rd will see Nintendo’s mobile auto-runner Mairo title make the leap onto Android devices as well as the release of the game’s 2.0 version.

Super Mario Run will soon be making its next jump onto Android devices next week. Nintendo’s mobile Mario auto-running platformer originally released back on December 16th last year, but only for iOS devices. March 23rd will see the mobile title leap to Android, as well.

In addition, on the same day that the game launches for Android, it will also be receiving its update to version 2.0. As of now, the update has hinted at the ability to play as other characters, as well as the option for players of the free version to unlock World 1-4 once they have completed one of Bowser’s challenges. Nintendo mentioned that the update will include even more additions, but did not elaborate any further.

Super Mario Run is available for iOS devices. It will release for Android on March 23rd.

[FONT=&quot]Back in December, Nintendo released Super Mario Run on the iOS market. It enjoyed record-breaking success in the first few weeks, then plateaued rather quickly. It made Nintendo less money than they and others had hoped. This hasn't stopped them from preferring the Super Mario Run game model over others.
Super Mario Run is a traditional pay-once-and-it's-yours type of game. $9.99 unlocks the whole game and any updates. Nintendo has since released another game, Fire Emblem Heroes which follows a freemium model. Their sales numbers haven't been released on Fire Emblem Heroes, but the game seems to be more of a "cash cow."


"'Heroes' is an outlier," a senior company official said. "We honestly prefer the 'Super Mario Run' model."
So even though Super Mario Run technically made less money and "did not meet our expectations," according to Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima in an interview with Nikkei. Nintendo prefers the model nonetheless.
Could this be a good thing for mobile gaming? The quality of mobile games has increased dramatically since their initial creation, but could Nintendo's insistence on quality and traditional pricing push the platform to new levels?

Cartoon Network and publisher Outright Games have announced they will release a new boxed product exclusively at retail that will include both Steven Universe: Save the Light and OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes in one package for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch. It will launch on October 30 in North America and November 2 in Europe for $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99.


While Steven Universe: Save the Light and OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes are both currently available digitally on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, this marks the first time the games will be available on Switch. Each title will also launch as a standalone release via the Nintendo eShop on October 30. Steven Universe: Save the Light will cost $24.99 / £19.99 / €24.99 and OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes will cost $19.99 / £17.99 / €19.99.
