Here we'll debate on which version of a song is better. Now, I know, many people think: "The original is always the best!" But it's not always the case...

Like our first song, Mad World.

I'm definitely going with the cover. Discuss.

Though I'm more used to the original...the cover has much more effect than the original IMO. It instantly puts you in a certain mood when you're listening to it. I've noticed that the mood is different for each person...but it definitely has an effect on people. Whereas the original only has nostalgia value for me.

Original: Carcass - "Incarnated Solvent Abuse"

Cover: Arch Enemy: "Incarnated Solvent Abuse"

I didn't think that song could get ANY sicker, but Daniel Erlandsson's drumming just brings that song new life.

Goddamn that avvy is sexy jimmy...

We had a brief discussion a while back regarding Kate Bush "This Woman's Work" vs. Maxwell's cover of it. I actually heard Maxwell's version first, and I think it's a great song. I eventually heard Kate's, and while she gets much love for creating the song, I do find myself leaning more towards Maxwell and that falsetto of his.

"Eden"

Sarah Brightman's cover f**king rules.

IMO, I think the original Mad World is better. But I also dig the cover, it's pretty damn good too.

Original: Goo Goo Dolls - Long Way Down

Cover: Haste The Day - Long Way Down

In this case, I definately prefer the original version...although I do like the slightly up-tempo version that Haste The Day have done.

Original: Radiohead - Street Spirit

Cover: The Darkness - Street Spirit (Live)

Again, another original version that is better than the cover!

Tough to pick, really.

While Genesis had the better video, I like Disturbed's version of "Land of Confusion" better. 80's people, you can attack me now.

Ring of Fire

I recently learned that Aretha Franklin's "Respect" was actually written and recorded first by Otis Redding and her cover kicks the original's ass by far.

The Electric Six cover of Queen's "Radio Gaga" was disappointing because it's just like a straight karaoke cover, bringing nothing new, except the singer's inability to sing like Freddie Mercury.

People were talking about Chris Cornell's cover of "Billie Jean", going "Wtf?! How could he do THAT?!?"
And I said, " He'll turn it into a mournful, acoustic ballad, kind of like a bluesy Johnny Cash song."

And, I just heard it and of course I was right.

I was blown away to hear that, probably with a little digital help, Fergie can actually sing, as she did a better than karaoke version of Heart's "Barracuda", though it's still Crap City, U.S.A.

I always loved that "Vulcan" song by Snake River Conspiracy (that singer was HOT! :(), so I was checking out their cover of "How Soon Is Now" by the Smiths, as well as Tatu's cover.
They both are musical crimes.

I suppose the Violent Femmes cover of T.Rex's "Children of the Revolution" was pretty good. Haven't heard it in years. Should revisit it.

Alice Cooper doing the Beatle's "Because" as Skeletor is a mind-blower.

very scary

Love it or hate it Rhiana Umbrella is a good song.

This is a very different take to the song...a lot more melodic, and alternative.

Both girls are hot, track is great for dance or slow song.

heres Mandy Moores version

Children of Bodom's cover of Rebel Yell kicks some major butt.

Song: Killing Me Softly

Original: Roberta Flack

Cover: Lauryn Hill

Yeah. It's going to be off the hook.
